A year ago I was actually looking forward to this expansion.
About 2 months ago I resubbed my 3 accounts in anticipation for Incarna.
Memories of teaser videos and promises of corp management maps, scriptable NPCs, ability to run my own bar/whatever, new types of socialization, loads of new content in the form of architecture and clothing...
All of that sounded like a great addition to the game.
What did we get?
1 pitiful CQ. With nothing to do in it. I can't even customize anything. There literally is no reason for it at all.
8 items for sale in the 'Noble Exchange'. 8? WHAT THE ****? 8 ****ing items, are you ****ing serious? I saw scores of outfits and structures in your video a year ago!
Aurum/Nobel Exchange prices. When I heard about this, I expected I could buy a plex and buy myself a full outfit, maybe even a couple cool things to put in my CQ. Instead I find a pair of simple black pants will cost me more than $20 to buy. I don't think I need to comment on how utterly stupid this is.
I could go on with bullet points. But, CCP. I'm sorry, you should have just waited. This is not done. You have launched Incarna way too early. People were already hatin on it, and now those of us who were looking forward to it are utterly disappointed.
CCP, please fix your company before you loose all of your subscribers. Obviously there is something TERRIBLY wrong going on in your management team.

The only obvious thing is your inability to read dev blogs. It is exactly what they said it would be. Are they supposed to cater for ever idiot that decides what a patch should be?

Yeah true. When I first started playing years ago I wanted to see walking in station in the game. Ironically it was the release that has made my un-sub for the time being.

Is it really ... this is the dev blog mega-thread from July last year - so many promises, so few deliveries http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1534027 ------------------------------------------- "[old dev blog] Iterative Development and what's happening in 2011" |

I dont get why people are forgetting that Incursions 1.0 was only a very small part of the entire expansion.
guess the community has dumbed down since.

I read the dev blogs, I saw the cuts. They didn't mention only 8 items in Noble's exchange, nor the $70 price tag on the monocle implant.
DevBlogs do not change the fact that this patch is extremely lacking in content, and should have been delayed so that more content could be available at release.
My opinion is that CCP is undergoing very serious growing pains. The company has grown a lot in the past couple years. They've taken on a lot more projects (Dust, WoD). I really do hope they can get a handle on what's going on and get back on the right track.

^This in alot of ways.
EvE has always been about waiting and being patient, you wont make the big ISK without a lot of ground work. Doesn't matter if it's PI, industry or PVP.
Whatever you aim for it takes a lot of time. This is just the tip of the ice iceberg. No I don't like it, in fact it's freak nuts in fact, a little room I can't even spin my ship in but it's a start. We've always been beta testers in a way, "Hey how does the one universe work? What about a player controlled market?" etc etc.
This is another example of that, we have stage one, what will we say in a years time or 2 years time when we can stab people in the faces, in station, and destroy a dust invasion of a planet that holds another alliances essentials?
It's a test bed, imagine they introduced it all at once.. imagine the forum whine index then.....

+1.
People leaving because they either haven't been following the news, or are just impatient.
Frankly, if you're not enjoying yourself now, how will walking in stations make the difference? Or wearing the monocle?

Incursion's worked from day 1, people ran to them and started to use the new content. W space worked from day 1. People couldn't get into wormholes fast enough. Colonization started the first day. The new content was widely accepted and utilized from the get go. Factional warfare was popular from day one with excellent participation. Once again the new content was well received and adopted by the player base.
How many people bought a monocle yesterday, or a pair of boots ? Maller sales went through the roof but Noble Exchange ?
So, in theory, if the purpose of a new expansion is to give people new content to use, how successful was yesterdays Incarna launch ? How many people rushed to buy items in the store and excitedly showed their purchases to their friends and corp mates ?
Yes this is part 1 of many parts. There is more to come. CCP's ever persistent promise to us all. However, to promise so much and deliver so very very little speaks volumes as to the soundness of CCP's judgement at this time. There will be undoubtedly more to come but as with rockets, failure to launch is never a good thing and is usually a prelude to more fail to come.

I like the idea of Incarna. I like the new graphics, I like my avatar.
I just with I could DO SOMETHING with all of it.
This feels like a demo, that should have been ready 2 years ago, not a full expansion. In the expansion I should get to do something.
They should have waiting to release this until it meant something, until they had more than 8 vanity items. More than 1 race's CQ.
Incarna = underwhelming = disappointing

Incarna looks real pretty but lacks any real content & the Nobel exchange makes me remember why I don't play free2play games!
Our subs are going to other projects now, very little is gong back into EVE by the looks of it.
We are the financial backing for CCP's FPS debut, I want results or I want my shares back! |

Confirming that even a crappy console port like Crysis 2 gets better FPS compared to the EVE CQ environment at maxed-out graphics settings for both, and it actually looks BETTER while doing that.
Welcome to some time ago - what to do so CQ isn't universally hated. CQ is sort of nice, I guess. But lack of options, mandatory nature = INSTAHATE You guys never listen early enough nor make noise strong enough when it matters. Guess what, even the "(do not) load station environment" is supposed to be TEMPORARY only.

Quick recap, in case CCP insists on keeping CQ the default environment : * MANDATORY - separate the CQ from the non-CQ graphics detail settings into two completely separate groups which you can set differently * MANDATORY - keep the ESC menu option to not load any environment at all * STRONGLY PREFERRED - add some even lower graphics detail levels for CQ * OPTIONAL BUT HIGHLY DESIRABLE - do not delete the current hangar environments AND make them an alternative (default disabled) via the ESC menu _

The answer is right there in your topic: You had expectations. Those were not met. Free advise: Don't ever have expectations about how awesome something is going to be and you're not going to get disappointed.
I'm happy with the current (and temporary) state of Incarna. :)

Edited by: Jussarafinissi Pomeroy on 22/06/2011 16:01:17 Hey Marius, you do understand this is the first part of the entire expansion right?
You act as if this is the entire Incarna content, but it is just the first patch. They plan on doing this expansion in pieces, to better implement the individual features...
Everyone rage quitting would be like If I invited you to dinner, then I brought out the mashed potatoes, and you ran out the door cursing me for only having mashed potatoes to offer, when all I was doing was bringing out each portion one at a time.
Breath, and take it easy. I know CCP doesnt have a good track record with keeping promises, but youre acting like this little percentage of Incarna is the ENTIRE EXPANSION. It is not.

Basically many people lack the ability to distinguish between an "expansion" in Eve and the kinds of expansions you see in other MMOs.
Eve doesn't do those kinds of expansions, where you pay an extra $40 and they add a new continent for you to once again level up to some new arbitrary cap.
Eve slowly expands and upgrades and builds on new material over time.
Is CQ a bit of a disappointment? Sure. But it is square one.
I would have liked to see a bit more customization in how the quarters looked, maybe at least different layouts for different factions or whatever.
I would have liked a bit more in the availability of custom clothes and the like. Not that I am the target audience for that, but hey if you added something interesting I might choose to partake at some point. But ONE outfit at outrageous prices isn't it :-p
I thought the PLEX to Aurum exchange rate was so you could buy several items with one PLEX, not ONE item for a PLEX and a Half
All that aside, they can still do some interesting stuff with Incarna as long as they don't drop the ball. Right now though, this seems to be an exercise in being able to say "Yes we have character avatars."

I'll go carebear some more for the next 6 months mining and such :) I knew by the time that incarna would come it would feel like a beta-beta. It has proven once again that beta-beta releases are becoming more common in a sense.
At least mining roids still works. The mechanic still works the same and nothing has changed with it..
Being a carebear is such a wonderfull life :D

Yes, I understand this is only expansion one. I'm not rage quitting, I still anticipate playing Eve.
This is not like the dinner you suggested. This is more like I invite you over for dinner, before hand I tell you it's going to be an exquisite 8 course meal. Then before you show up, I call you and tell you I had to scale dinner back some. Only 3 courses. Then when you get here, I server you a cracker, a glass of water and a packet of ketchup. I then tell you that the rest of the meal will be done in 6 months. So sorry if you were hungry.
Oh, and if you want to open the ketchup, I'm going to need $68.
Again, I like the idea of Incarna, they just have released it far too early, and the vanity prices are WAY out of line.

If you visited the test server, then you would of seen that they already have many items already prepared for the aurum store that are NOT on TQ. But less than 24 hours after the expansion you're already panicing.
Also you do know that CCP switched from a style of 1 giant expansion part? They're releasing expansions in smaller chuncks? Wait you said you read the blogs, you know that. If you look at just the one room they released. YES IT IS VERY UNDERWHELMING, but you're not thing about the things that has enabled now that the coding for the engine is complete. I'm sure that soon enough we'll get a patch the gives us all the racial CQs, then eventually another that opens up more and more of the station.

i asked for help with math somewhere on these forums this morning. last i saw that post was on page three. we figured half (the current minmatar CQ doesnt seem done) of a quarter (there's four factions of CQs) of an eigth (i expect that CQ is an eigth of the station) is 1/64. so CCP gave us 1/64th of an expansion. i don't know how the graphical shinies play into that fraction though.
