It's less about ship spinning and more about losing the ability to ship spin to a feature (CQ) that I could care less about and I'll never use.

It's like habit. I'm sitting in station and I go to drag my mouse across the screen and nothing happens. FUUUUU
But yeah, it's an old habit like a card player shuffling their hand or something. Imagine if you'd been doing that for years and suddenly someone came along and said no you can't do that, you must stare at this static picture of a door instead. (Can't run CQ cos it ****s my machine).

Because I am a demigod bound to my ship and it's systems, everything I do as a capsuleer revolves around the privilege to pilot such craft. Why would I bother with entering the frail world of flesh unless I absolutely had to.

Not really the spinning itself, but being able to easily and timely see what ship you're in without having to walk around and/or open any windows.
Also right clicking ship functions and drag and drop ship change.
It just worked better, was doing carrier logistics earlier and it was infuriating.

I'm assuming you're not doing this already, but you could always enable ship/items merge with station panel and it is right there for you.
As for original post, I think what you are seeing is a lot of people complaining merely because things are "different" and it is easy to whine when others are. EVE is about change. Always has been and always will be. If people don't get that they need to HTFU or leave. I've been playing since 2003 and I really don't miss ship spinning at all. why is hip spinning important?!?!?!? WHY!? because i love to look at my ship from any angle i want so i can bask in its majesty and glory. and i don't care if i have seen that angle a thousand times, I WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN!
not to mention the old view was ALOT less of a performance hog

Originally by: Maeve Kelly Thank you those of you for these replies explaining why you have interface issues of CQ. But I am wondering more specifically about the act of spinning the ship. It seems to be a huge complaint that players cannot sit in the dock and "spin" their ship. As a new player I am not aware of any history on this. Ayieka said it was an EVE inside joke....is that all it is that has people THIS ****ed off about this one aspect? They can't spin their ship as an EVE inside joke? I am hoping to hear from the ship "spinners" just to get some insight into this...just curious...
The ship spinning has a little to do with it, but I think (and I do not think I speak for myself) that it's a bunch of other issues that (that might SEEM minor but aren't) that were connected to the old hanger view. Liang does a good job comparing it with habits/interface ease with relation to CS.
For me, it's the ease of access that has been slaughtered by the new CQ. First, in general just not having the ability to see what ship your currently in is irritating - you have to click. Another thing is not being able to double click to open your cargo. Finally (although there are more little things) dragging ability with certain items is gone now as well.
All of these changes combine to make the interface/accessibility just - well - crap compared to what it used to be.
CCP, please let us have to option to choose between CQ and old hanger view.

It's important because I'm a Capsuleer, a demigod, Atlas incarnated. I command money and power beyond the scope of mere mortal understanding. I'd much rather see my HAC spinning in station, looking deadly and lethal, but instead I'm now treated to an Emo-Douchebag-Nerdbat sitting in a ****ty low rent apartment watching the news. I don't watch the ****ing news! I MAKE the news! I smash entire fleets of NPC battleships without blinking, I mine hundreds of millions of cubic meters of minerals single handedly. I fight epic battles over the richest and most lawless territories! I DEAL OUT DEATH AND CARNAGE ON A TRUELY MASSIVE SCALE, AND WHEN I DIE, I SAY "**** YOU!" AND AM RAISED FROM THE GOD DAMNED GRAVE TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN!!!
CCP has neutered this game in a profound way. Bring back my spinning ship!

we miss it (well at least i do) 'cause it was a silly and funny way to spend time while checkin market orders/waiting for fleets to formup/chatting with friends/etc a way that didn't require a top tier machine to run, unless this new CQ stuff.

You can now spin not just one ship, but the entire car-park, but there seems to be something wrong with the spin-mechanic. It's quite a minor point and not worth a full-fledged bug-report but since you've expressed an interest in spinning I'll tell you about it. This only occurs on multiple monitor set-ups when playing windowed. If you drag the mouse a maximum rev spin the inertia will inevitably take the mouse pointer outside of the game window. This seems to brake (and thus break) spinning. It spins fine in full-screen though, although feels a little weird to have the spin axis running vertically through oneself. It's possible that this out-of-screen behavior was extant pre-patch, but I guess we'll never know.
Car park spinning isn't half as much fun as ship spinning. When the car-park spins around you it's like you're drunk, and maybe not such a good idea to drive after all.
One hopes that when the door to the station finally opens we will be able to group-spin out in the shopping malls that we'll be able to access.
Incidentally, why do you think it's not possible to breath the atmosphere inside the station but it's fine to go wandering around in the car park?

Edited by: Dr Zom on 22/06/2011 19:41:20 Since CCP has acknowledged that CQ is an optional feature (as in, it is in the options) they should at least have a viable alternative to it, say one already developed and battle hardened for several years. Instead we can look at a jpeg of a walkway.
What ship am I flying? I don't know, because all I can see is a painting of a walkway somebody put on this wall over here, since otherwise my MB overheats...

Look up. Your ship is in the hanger. It's plain as day if you turn your head and look up.
those of us w/o the ability to use incarna without massive lag can't do this. when we turn off CQ, it is a bland background.
Ship spinning is kind of a nervous habit for many eve players.
Taking it away is like taking away cigarettes.
I could always occupy 10 seconds of idle thought spinning my ship while figuring out what to do next. Now i just see a background... it is a subtle, but important, psychological difference about keeping someone's attention on the game.

Spin is back!
In short: Show info on ship, click ship image, expand window to full screen, spin.
This could even be considered a full optional upgraded spin feature that justifies Incarna by itself. Well done CCP!
