As i recall, it is by random roll of the dice , the Moon is blank on the server untill it is scanned, than the moon is market with what you scanned, and it only takes moments for the moon to know what it is going to be

just a small question for a pos noob.
If you have a moon with a very rare mineral with abundance of 1 would it be better to mine that completely and sell it on its own or would it be better to wait for a moon with a number of minerals that can be reacted together?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

For something like Dyspro or Prom you're better off just producing the stuff. If you got something to go with it more the merrier of course. But basically they're so rare you can't get overly picky with it. Plus moon mining only with small tower makes for rather less hauling and low fuel costs.
At a quick glance I got 1779 moons surveyed in Syndicate and of those 2 have Dysprosium and 0 Promethium. That sort of rare.

Thanks for introducing this very informative thread. As a POS operator myself (7 currently, Caesium, dysprosium, thulium, platinum, mercury, cobalt, just some of the moon ore we currently harvest) it's helpful to see what directions we can take with them. We can say this our 2 moons with dysprosium more than pay for my fuel costs and that's without my mining team bringing in ice to reduce this cost. We look forward to making some simple and hopefully complex reactions in the near future. Good luck to all the industrial players out there we wish you much fortune.

As I'm at work right now, I'll see if I can gather some of the data I have up into some sort of presentable form over the weekend and post it up here.
Off the top of my head though, I can tell you that processed materials have been falling into 3 general categories as far as how many people are producing them and how plentiful (=cheap) they are on the market. I do know the common ones by heart:
Common
Carbon Polymers
Ceramic Powder
Silicon Diborite
Sulfuric Acid
I'll have to look at my data to sort the uncommon and rare ones. I'll add the data to this thread sometime this weekend, time permitting.

Well I have personally scanned 3000 moons in 0.0 space. I have traded some of the information for data on another ~500 moons. At one point I had 6 large POS set up and was making all of the compounds for Reactors but many of the POS were blasted even though they were just moon mining operations in the recent expulsion of my former alliance.
Now for the on topic information:
In all of those 3500 moons I found 1 uber moon.
2 rare metals that combine into an advanced rare reaction at the moon.
So knowing that I only have about 1/8th of all 0.0 mapped I can bet that there are ~8 uber moons in all of eve.
Sadly this moon is deep in 0.0 in a "politically unstable" place. Isk wise it is very nice to make a rare advanced reaction from moon miners straight to end silo all in one spot. I only hope that once politics get settled I can get back to the moon mineral mining and tech 2 components production I once had.
The only problem I have is that it takes billions to set up and months of work to start getting payback.....it all was blown up in about 1 week. So the isk risked to make isk back means you need stability for ~6 months. What regions in eve have stability for 6 months? |

I think they are the same as before. You can check ingame for the market just press show all then the raw moon mineral tab.
I have a question I have a Moon that holds:
-Atmospheric Gases
-Cobalt
-Chromium
But also another moon holds two materials needed for two simple reactions:
-Evaporite Deposits
-Silicates
Would mining and selling the rarer raw minerals make more money then selling these common simple reactions?

They are now around 100mil each ... i guess inflation is a pita now that you can buy isk
Credit Card = Money
$14.95 = 30 Day Time Card

Does the security rating affect what kind of mineral one can find? I've only surveyed some 50+ moons by now, but the only metal I've found so far has been cobalt. Granted, there could be other goodies at one of the moons holding a POS or some such, but still.
The security rating for this particular system was 0.3.
