What do you have against 13 year old girls?
Wow. I did lol though.
I digress. Just for clarity, how is name calling any less infantile than being a "crybaby" over a change that is so backwards it isn't even funny?
Let me lay it out for you...once upon a time, the MMO Eve Online was intelligent and unique. It had what no one else had, space combat and such an open way of doing things that it stood tall amongst its competitors, even with a fairly small playerbase. Want to attack some random dude? Go for it! He doesn't need to be flagged for you to do so. You can build your own ships, ammo, modules, you can take them from others. You can grind, ransom, pew, and jeez, the list went on and on and on. The first year and a half I played, God, what an age of wonder. I had wished that I had subbed sooner. Eve was THE game for the elite and intelligent player who wanted more than running through a forest and hacking up (insert random monster here).
Now here we are today. Less emphasis on space combat from the devs, more walking around. Nerf anything good, and leave the broken things broken. People call Incarna progress, I call it misdirection. It's the same as a shoplifter waving his hand puppet around while pocketing snickers bars and dirty magazines. As far as Eve is concerned, it is not progress at all, but rather sidestepping a broken vase. You know its there, but you refuse to sweep it up.
I can give you two or three things that could be called progress in what was once the unique game called Eve.
1 - Jovian Space. 2 - Reopen the New Eden Gate. 3 - Imperial expansions.
Three in five minutes, and they keep the heart and soul of the game pure, while adding new content and things to do. This CQ and ambulation is ultimately all smoke and mirrors. How long before you are playing a bastardized version of CoD and WoW? Find 12 Caldari business memos and return to your agent. Think it won't happen? Ha. How about some pseudo-FPS in a station? It's on the way. We might as well just call Eve for what it is, World of Evecraft, or maybe Call of Eve, or maybe we'll just amalgamate it and call it Call of Evecraft. Don't think it's coming? Give it a year or two, it's coming down the pipe. This is what theorists call a logical progression of events.
The microtransaction thing also has the potential for some very bad mojo down the road, but MTs are just the way things go now in MMOs. It's a trend, and thus the natural progression as well. But if I am crying, it's not because I'm throwing a temper tantrum, it's because the game I once loved with so much of my heart and soul is finally being taken down a road that I can't really follow. I can play WoW if I want, there's my ambulation and all that. Want to shoot something? I have Black Ops and SOCOM 4. Eve was a game that many games tried to imitate in an effort to get money and subs. Now Eve is the one imitating, trying to be something it's not.
What was once intelligent, unique, and honestly rather elite has now become just another MMO in a long line of MMOs that no longer truly matter. Yeah, it'll be around for awhile yet. But it's essence and soul will be diluted and tainted. This is why I will probably quit. Not because its hard, or because I don't get it, but because it's not what it once was. It's not truly Eve, the premier space simulation, open sandbox game. Now it's about dressing up like the monopoly guy and putting your wallet to the test. It's a bad punchline now.
