Do you have any definitive idea of the future of Aurum?
Aurum is here to stay. The cycle here isn't changing soon.
Then this conversation is pointless.
WHAT PART OF WE DONT FRIGGING WANT THIS can't you understand? Sorry, but this is non negotiable. RMT goes. We also need to have a debate on whether PLEX stays or not.
Quote:
However, I feel like none of the concerns of the community have been addressed. Worse, I feel like these concerns are being swept under the rug, and even treated with outright contempt.
You think?!!! What we want hasn't even been CONSIDERED by CCP. You hold us completely in contempt, You see us as wallets to be tapped.
Quote:
That was not on purpose and I sincerely apologize for that. We've asked you guys to digest a lot of very quick changes and did a suboptimal job at walking beside you during the past month. Dev blogs and test servers and AT interviews and such didn't quite cut it for everything. There is NO contempt against our players.I've witnessed some extreme amounts of exhibited patience for the nastiest of the nasties who have threatened lives, engaged in character assassination and such--and that's because we as developers realize there are a lot of hurt/angry people out there.
What you've done is stick a knife in the golden goose. We aren't going to talk about this. You are going to UNDO THIS. Or else. My accounts are still canceled and will remain so unless you do.
Quote:
Features that many players want are ignored, while decisions that are questionable at best are made without regard to the concerns of the community. I won't make excuses for those features we know are much wanted or the ones people want us to go back and "fix". Heck, I want some of them. Soundwave and Eyjo and Dropbear and TonyG and Fallout want them too. BUT, making and designing and creating a game isn't pick and choose, especially when it comes to introducing something like Incarna or devoting significant dev time to rewriting old code backbone so we can grow again in the future. We know the other stuff is wanted. We know Incarna is also wanted and are working towards what many of you have wanted out of it. It just takes time.
I don't think that it's too late to save this special little den of internet spaceships and internet spaceship captains; however, this trend cannot go on forever and it has all the signs of fail cascade written all over it. Word.
It's entirely too late if you expect us to accept aurum and your cash shop ambitions. We aren't going to. Certainly not in the way you've presented it so far. Do you really thing PR can fix this? No, it can't.
The way I see it, our demands are:
1. Removal of Aurum/Cash Shop immediately.
2. Placement of the cash shop items into blueprints, seeded in game.
3. Reinstatement of the pre-Incarna station interface, or at least allow us to chose between them.
4. A binding commitment to NOT introduce any more forms of RMT into EVE than we had pre-Incarna. If you want to add RMT, the other two games you have in development are the appropriate places to introduce it. Not an 8 year old sandbox game.
We are at an impasse the way I see it. You guys won't go back on your wallet **** scheme, we won't reinstate our accounts. If it is to be a siege, I think we can outlast you...

Is there anything else you've lied to the playerbase about (MT for vanity ONLY) that we might like to know about?
Soundwave will NOT be fired nor should he. I personally would not like to see one of the driving forces behind the Alliance Tournament and the spiritual leader of Team BFF take a fall for agreeing to present one opposing side of the microtransaction debate in an internal newsletter.
Whomever wrote the development plan for the last year, be it Soundwave or someone else needs to be fired.
Or demoted to front door greeter. They must never be allowed to have ANYTHING to do with this again.

Yes they will. Sandbox AND RMT ARE NOT COMPATIBLE.

Not even a chance. This is exactly when the pitchforks and torches are needed. The community has said time and again that any microtransastion for anything but cosmetics isn't going to fly, and now we find out that CCP intends to implement it anyway? I've defended this game against people who said it was boring, I've argued that people were overreacting to CCP's seeming incompetence, hell, I've had multiple subscriptions for years. If any of the changes in that newsletter go through, I'm done, and I guarantee everyone I play with will go too. Allowing gameplay changing things to be bought for real money is an admission that the game is on it's last legs and you want to get as much money out of it before it dies. Don't do that.
Exactly. The pitchforks and torches aren't enough. Boiling oil and tar and feathers are also in order.

Originally by: Mac Aoidh I've got about 30 minutes till my character can be sent off to biomass so I thought I'd chime in one last time. There's really nothing anyone from CCP could say to keep me as a customer. The newsletter that was leaked clearly shows CCP's true future vision as a company. I've been playing off and on since 2004 and I've seen lots of changes, some good, some bad. But those changes were always consistent with the company's core vision of creating an epic mmo that was a true sandbox. MT ruins everything! It will keep Dust from ever being anything more than novelty and will prevent WOD from ever being taken seriously. It will ruin EVE. This is a true NGE moment.
In a way, you're doing me a favor CCP. I've got some serious health issues that need to be addressed. It's time I start focusing on how my real life avatar looks. It's been fun and thanks for all the pew pew!
Mac out!
It shows that behind closed doors they have absolutely nothing but contempt for their customers.
Which explains why we've suffered through two years of pathetic expansions, and walking in stations looks like "walking in jail cell".

Well, back in the original threadnaught, it was predicted the response by CCP would be PR. And so it has.
The statements by the CCP'ers in this thread completely lack substance and, IMHO, make this whole thing worse. They've not said one thing except that the Aurum/Cash shop poker WILL remain up our arses.
Which means nothing at all has changed, nothing at all WILL change. All the plans in the newsletter are on track. Full speed ahead.
Until the money runs out because we all leave...

No matter what happens from this, even if CCP relents and withdraws the whole cash shop, things will never be the same.
CCP, you LIED TO US. You said that you'd not be going to RMT. The newsletter that was leaked CLEARLY shows that you plan to introduce items to the cash shop that WILL grant game advantages.
Our reaction to all this should not have been a surprise, unless everyone in management are fools, or were intentionally blinded by all that cash you thought you'd be making. Our reaction to remaps for plex on the test server showed exactly what we thought of RMT.
This is an 8 year old game If $15/month isn't enough money for ALL ITEMS TO BE INGAME AVAILABLE FOR INGAME CRAFTING, then you need to cut back your staff so that the items you make for this game ARE produced within that budget.
Asking us for more money on top of the subscription fee is immoral.
And it won't be accepted.

So, I was never a poet, or a good ripoff artist.
The leaked memo is worrying, but from the immense amount of feedback, pitchforks, torches and pyres I do suspect that CCP will at least listen to our concerns, not necesarily take it to heart (one can hope).
P.S. WTB Jump Clone cooldown decrease.
You are a better poet than CCP is at telling the truth.
That Sony partnership did more for them than give them a deal for DUST on the PS3. Seems some of the worst ideas SOE has had (including making HUGE GAME DESIGN CHANGES TO A MATURE GAME, ie, a NGE) have made their way here...

I was told there was a big obvious yellow message waiting for me later on.
I honestly cannot answer that right now nor should you hear any such answer from me as many have said. As Pann opened this thread, she stated, "I wonÆt be able to answer all of your questions tonight, but I promise weÆll start getting some info out tomorrow."
The reason why I am going through every post and not just skipping to the end unless someone tells me to, is so that I can make sure the nuances of the player responses are condensed, fully represented and then transmitted within CCP to the appropriate people. (Jade Constantine's post is one obvious verbatim one amongst)
Player feedback has diligently been sent from our community and PR team since time immemorial and it is my most solemn and serious duty.
It is more important right now than trying to "solve" things or crusading to answer every single post. That was pretty clear after a short second of introspection following my second or third reply at around page 5.
So there it is. They will not commit to not going beyond vanity items.
Which means Pay To Win is on the table.

Well, a "lot" is an admitted overstatement. I was thinking specifically at the time though of the fact that _some_ people don't realize that NeX stuff on sale now can be purchased with in game ISK through purchasing PLEX.
It's a relatively small point, and I probably should have (a) been clearer or (b) not said anything at all.
Wrong. Please don't insult our intelligence. Even if you can buy plexes for in game ISK, plexes don't exist unless someone BUYS THEM. In other words, people can only buy plexes or plex based things (your unwanted and grossly overpriced cash shop) IF SOMEONE PAYS MORE THAN $15 FOR THE GAME. That someone can be you or someone else.
Don't you see that this represents crossing a HUGE line?
Prior to this, plexes were about game time. Someone trades ISK for game time. Someone trades game time for ISK. What you've done now is lock away part of the game and tell us that it is inaccessible without more than the subscription fee being sent.
Whether it's direct cash or not it amounts to the same thing.

The way I see it, this is what we REQUIRE CCP to do:
1. Remove Aurum from the game, refund all purchases. 2. Seed the cash shop items into the game via blueprints. 3. Make the previous station interface optional, especially given that Incarna offers no additional functionality. 4. We need a declaration that there will be no RMT of any kind in EVE for in game items or content.
As far as I am concerned that represents the LEAST you must do, CCP, if I am to even CONSIDER not letting my last account lapse for good.
EVE is a sandbox game. If we are going to have an avatar game now, fine. But it needs to work EXACTLY THE WAY THE SPACE GAME WORKS. That means if there is to be clothing, players need to make the clothing. If there are to be monocles, players need to be making the monocles, etc.

CCP has SUICIDE ganked us all. This direction they are locked onto leads to certain suicide. EVE is going to drop in subscribers, the overpriced crud isn't going to make up for that, and there will be even LESS money to develop DUST and Twilight Online.
CCP will be like SOE, post NGE, looking back wistfully at the sub numbers they had before they did it. This decision has not only cost CCP a lot of money, it's ultimately going to cost lots of CCP'ers their jobs, whether they know it now or not.

I think the very survival of CCP is in question now.
SOE has been able to survive the NGE because they had other games, they lost 200K subs from NGE really fast but they still had (at the time) a lot more than that across their other games. Also, SOE is just a division of Sony. So there were a lot more things to keep SOE from collapsing.
CCP is a tiny company (smaller than the company I work for, in fact) EVE is their ONLY source of revenue. They are trying to suck more money out of that in order to finish development on two other games that won't generate any revenue for at least a year.
A big decline in EVE subscriptions and revenue puts not just the two games they have in development in jeopardy but the whole company.

Originally by: Lidia Zarmel I don't see 50% or more of the EVE player base quitting over the CQ problems. I haven't experienced any problems in relates to performance. . .. but I tested everything on CCP's test server.
Won't take 50% leaving over this "expansion" to hurt CCP. 20% would do.
I see a quick 20% loss followed by another 20% quitting after the next expansion when CCP keeps none of their promises. Aurum is going to be a net money loser for CCP. How the hell did they ever think $70 for an ingame bauble was a fair price? How much of their World of Twilight/DUST budgets are based on people FLOCKING LIKE MAD to those $70 baubles?
The only other situation I have ever experienced regarding a VERY UNPOPULAR unwanted fundamental game change that can be compared to this was the NGE. SWG had 250,000 subscribers at the time the NGE was announced. From what I was told later, they lost 100,000 almost immediately, was down to 100K total 6 months later and fell below 50K 2 years after the NGE. Today they are believed to have about 10,000 subscribers.
It it not at all inconceivable to think that EVE will fall in a similar fashion. If the subscriber loss is even HALF that (which is looking far more likely than keeping a steady or small decline at this point) it will still be enough to cause massive layoffs at CCP, cancelation of whole projects and the sale of the company.
If CCP loses 100K subs in the next 3 months due to Aurum/Incarna, it's GAME OVER. They won't be able to sustain their plans. And you know what, they shouldn't be able to. When you offend those who give you money they stop.

CCP isn't concerned with making a great game. They are concerned with making money. Where they have become disconnected is they don't understand that without the first the second will never happen.
