Im not blaming the CSMs for this at all(they dont impress me but they definitely are not trying to hurt the game.)
But perhaps it should make everyone consider the real reason for the program.

I agree. I believe CCP swallowed their own marketing on the CSM. They were convinced that they had the cover they needed to proceed as they wished.

If they arent told about future plans or even included in discussions about them then I honestly dont see the point. Must be some kind of shield for them from angry forum protesters. Not saying they dont work hard for us, just questioning whether what they say matters to CCP. :(

CSM only care about 0.0 and alliances, and the rest of the game is ignored.

Edited by: Blane Xero on 24/06/2011 15:58:34 Bull****. The game has not gotten worse due to the CSM. Nobody is fooled as to what the purpose of the CSM really is though, but they do get stuff done and the CSM has nothing to do with the game degrading. If anything it would have happened faster. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I think it's been made abundantly clear over the years that the CSM was intended purely as a shield. Whenever the shit hits the fan they either weren't asked, were overruled or were NDA'd. Pointless in every way.

The CSM have been a bit of a joke for quite some time. It's not their fault. They serve in an "advisory" capacity, but nobody at CCP actually listens to their advice. Their purpose is to be propped up so CCP can say "See? We listen to you! We even have player advisors that YOU elect!"
Yeah, they should walk out. They should've walked out several years ago when CCP started poo-pooing their advice. I think, however, that they're too busy enjoying the thought that they think everyone loves them.

You guys are so misinformed that it's not even funny.
When Mittens ran, his whole platform was based upon the fact that CCP doesn't have to listen to the CSM. When CCP has something they think players will agree with, they show it to the CSM; when the issue/feature is controversial, they just skip CSM and roll it out themselves.
They're a good bunch, and they work hard for us. By posting this stupid thread, you are disrespecting them for the effort they put into improving your spaceships. /e-honor

Learn to read and think.
The point of the tread isnt what the CSMs try to do or what motivates them.
The point of the tread is why does CCP really have the program.

It's weird CCP chose to take politics into the game development cycle. Can they not see politics doesn't bring good results
The uneducated masses are not necessarily the best ones to choose people who should help develop the game.
If you're good at spamming at forums and popular internet person isn't an indicator you are good dev.
I'm not saying CSM is baaad, i'm saying something else could be better.

This is alll fairly irrelevant to my point but in truth mass popularity doesnt decide many if any of the CSM seats. Its almost completeley decided by alliance voting blocks.

CCP aren't in anyway bound to listen to the CSM or their customers. They should be interested, since we are the people who chose to buy their service and are probably closest to continuing to do so, but if CCP feel they can trade us for a new breed of player (I'm seeing a lot of them around anyway) and be better off for it, they'll do so.
The only power we've ever had was in what CCP want from us, our money (realistically, they're a business). If someone else has more, it might make sense to CCP to appeal to them instead.
