Do you really think I would have taken the time to write such harsh remarks as I have in this topic and others, if I didn't care about the guy and his contributions as a statesman?

Considering Fox News already ran the story, tell me, has that influx hit us yet?

Yes, that must be it. Must be why we do nothing but cry for nerfs on eveything not related to where we reside and play in-game. Seriously, the ISDs need to step up their game to return the forums to the quality it once stood for.

It's kind of funny, many of us have spoken in support of Mr Smith and yet there are some who are so deep in their hatred for the average player, that they can't even be diplomatic and offer a thank you in our shared sympathies for a friend lost in such a horrible circumstance. Why? It is the greatest inequality to try to make unequal things equal. |

Oddly enough, I've never met a Goon in real life I haven't liked and respected. Online personas are QUITE different than real life personas.
More importantly, you slam EVE as a place where only the dregs of society come to vent. Yet, I've seen more loving, caring tributes to Sean here than I've seen in any other game for any other person. This has been absolutely amazing and awe-inspiring.
All the station renames, the cyno-light. Heart-breaking and reaffirming both.
This is what EVE will be known for and what it SHOULD be known for. We are a gaming community and we love to have fun. Hell, we love to kill people and blow them up in spectacular balls of flame and debris. But make NO mistake....if any of us should die in real life...we should be so lucky to have the outpouring of support that has been displayed in the past days. I have no doubt whatsoever that the EVE community will come together like no other and pay tribute to the fallen.
Tomorrow, we can go back to Space Wars. Today, we honored our fallen friend. I hope everyone who reads Alex's powerful tribute knows this place and its people for that.
tldr; EVE is what we make of it and right now, there is no game I'd rather be playing. This is great community. |

Slowly back out of this thread, look at the title, then look at the original post. Then come back in.

Yes I'm sure every EVE player who passes away gets this kind of heart warming publicity. The man was popular and well known within the community, the preverbial star quarterback if you will, and that's the only reason his unfortunate passing has gotten the attention it has.
And for the record I never said dregs of society, actually quite the opposite it would seem, for better or worse. "Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must undergo the fatigues of supporting it." - Thomas Paine |

Just from the sidelines watching this. Suddenly lots of claims of decency here, though prior to this unfortunate event most seemed to take pride in being douchebags, well some still do, so kudos to those for sticking to their douchebaggery guns at least. |

Beekeeper Bob wrote:Lying, cheating, hating, infantile behavior, racism, scamming, killing new players as a sport... This is the EVE that many people see when they first join the game. Unfortunatly some of these very issues contributed to Sean's death in real life.
What killed Sean in real life was a bunch of people with a chip on their shoulder who had a convenient excuse to attack officials of the USA on September 11. You do not know their motivations: perhaps they were simply paid well by Al Quaida, perhaps they were simply a bunch of idiots with guns who wanted to be seen GÇ£sticking it to The ManGÇ¥ or perhaps they were actually religious zealots who took the pathetic mockery of Mohammed personally and decided that someone had to take action to defend the good name of their Prophet.
In the long run, this incident will be good for the game: the thinking people will wonder just how a game full of arseholes and douchebags can open up and be so damned nice when one of their erstwhile GÇ£enemiesGÇ¥ dies. Then they will realise that the game is a means of fully exploring morality, ethics and the human condition in a way that no science fiction author ever has or ever could. We explore the darker side of humanity because without that exploration and experience, how can we know how valuable civil behaviour and polite society actually is?
Most people will also be capable of separating violence against another player's spaceships from violence against another human.

Right. Because justifying a real-life death with the actions of a video game is totally not self-absorbed nor does it make you a gigantic prick. Trolling has a place and time, but I honestly hope they start handing out bans to cowardly little faggots like you who do the most idiotic **** like this. |

Lol, really?
5 years ago, Goonswarm were just a buncha guys who stood up to BoB. Now they're the big dog in nullsec. Funny how polarizing they are. Especially considering how well they tend to treat their allies.
But stepping aside for a moment, Goons are good for eve at this particular point in time. They were heroes in the story of eve, and now they're villains. But every story needs heroes and villains. Honestly, not much has happened in Eve in terms of the player community atm. The last few big events were the player revolts over "Greed is Good", and the various goon wars and FW exploits. Point is, they're good for the game atm because they're making things happen. Yes, they **** a lot of people off, but so what? At least they're continuing Eve's story.

No seriously, how the **** does your twisted little brain come up with such putrid vitriol towards a person simply because of the way they played a VIDEO GAME?
If anyone here is a self-absorbed piece of **** prick it's you, and I think most of us would have rather seen Sean's fate befall someone like you who contributes nothing to their community and expects to be treated with the utmost regard.
