Normally I do not respond to issues like this because I believe that companies are allowed to make money to grow. If they don't, then we wouldn't have a game content we all love. I also allow leeway for bugs that aren't addressed because there are so many problems and balance issues that once you fix one, you find others. I have played many MMOs and have experienced the rise, success and failures of those games. After seeing that many review sites and others have touted EVE as having a stable and growing player base. I assume this is because EVE keeps its current players happy and that in turn brings in new players. EVE is also known as being innovative and have gone through a lot of changes since the beginning.
Recent events with EVE/CCP has brought a concern up. The current trend of Aurun and microtx for vanity items are of little concern since they do not affect gameplay and after a minor bump in income for CCP and will diminish since it is impossible to predict what people will like or dislike. (Have a look at fashion trends in the real world or even MT in other MMOs such as Lord of the Rings Online and their tons of horse mounts with the same spec.)
If CCP goes past vanity items, and have microTX affect the core and EVE will be on borrowed time. In the short term, EVE will not hurt, you'll lose many older players but the bump in new players who can now buy their way up to the top will overcome it. These same new players though, would not have put time and effort into the game and will soon lose interest after things settle down as more older players leave. In the end, EVE will lose more players, CCP will shrink the team working on EVE or move them on to other games, more players leave and the cycle continues. If you don't think this is possible, look at Starwars Galaxy, FFXI, Everquest II, Planetside, etc.
CCP Zulu, Manifest and others, these people here on this forums are the very people I described above. These people like EVE enough to vocalize their thoughts rather than quit and move on. There will always be disagreement with any changes that occur, even if it is for improvements for the greater good of the player base. Disagreement on changes not for the player base is the one to watch out for. Personally, I like EVE a lot and would love to see it continue its growth and my SP grow.
