Honestly, I don't even know if I want to give my money to a company that treats its employees like this.

Originally by: BLACK-STAR The last few days, I have this crushing feeling inside that I've invested years into a game for now, nothing. Having read this. Compared to the date it was posted, and when Incarna was launched... *slap*
I sincerely hope this is not how people actually feel, like they've wasted their time.
Eve is entertainment. Have you not been entertained up to this point?? This was why I was so mad at the bittervets initially, because like I tell the occasional disgruntled corpmember (ingame) if you're not happy and you're not having fun, you should go where you do have fun.
And this is what kills me - we're still at the slippery slope argument phase right now. Nothing fundamentally destructive has ACTUALLY happened. We could ignore monocles, get nicer graphics cards (which are fun anyways), and keep on hanging out with the friends we love, but people are bailing before the **** actually hits the fan.
We are at a crossroads - bail now, and ensure the doom of Eve Online, or try to have as much fun as we can until something stupid like AURUM for skillpoints or AURUM for fittings or AURUM for standings gets implemented.
If we all quit now, it is the community that pulls the plug on Eve, not CCP. I'd rather keep protesting, hope they see the writing on the wall and turn the ship around in the next few weeks as the fires continue to rage, and have as much pew pew fun as I can with my friends in the mean time. I hope others join me.
But please, if you made friends, and had fun, don't tell yourself it was a waste. I will alway cherish the fun I've had up to this point, and the fun I plan on having until CCP actually ruins the game. At this point, its not ruined yet.

To me, those reviews are why the management team, including Hilmar should stand down.
I would love to hear from Reynir Hadarsson on recent developments if he hasn't jumped on the 'Greed is good' bandwagon.

Whether or not the reviews are legit is anyone's guess but the comments are all very similar. Plus they just seem to make sense given what's happening.
For example -
"Fun game play is not a priority, promises made to investors and aesthetics are. æIf it looks good then it is goodÆ is an often heard motto. CCP is committed to use technology in EVE as well as WoD and DUST, so certain features are made and used in EVE knowing they will not be fun, nor fit EVE and no one expects them to be appreciated by the playerbase. Alienating the playerbase of EVE further."
The key thing there is "if it looks good it is good". Incarna's CQ does look pretty damn good (for those of us fortunate enough to have the machines capable of running it) but does it really add anything significant? Nor does it really "fit EVE" - given how according to the lore entering and exiting a pod is supposed to be a pretty traumatic experience is one example of how it doesn't.
"Several years now CCP has predicated insane subscriber goals that cannot be met. Naturally this is met with scepticism by the employees but it falls on deaf ears. The result is that the company is suffering because we cannot sustain the development of EVE, DUST and WOD. EVE is not creating enough revenue which means that solutions are sought, solutions that CCP was vehemently against a few years ago."
The, quite frankyly, ridiculous prices for the items in NeX and all the MT talk do seem to support the above. Zulu himslef said "We will gradually introduce items at other price points, definitely lower and probably higher than whatæs in the store today." I dunno about you but the "probably higher" suggests to me that CCP are content with the item costs as they are. Unless you're makin enough ISK in game to be able to splash 1.6B on a monocle, you're only real choice is to buy PLEX with real cash. I don't have any proof of it but didn't CCP make some kind of promise that real money MT's would never be implemented?
I'd like to mention that while I personally don't agree that MT's that influence game balance are acceptable, cancelling accounts before anything has been confirmed/implemented seems a bit rash so i'll continue to play and hope that all of this is enough of a wake up call to make CCP stop and think.

Thats depressing. EVE isnt dying, CCP is dying. They bit off more than they can chew, they are trying to salvage their company, and they will kill EvE in the process. They need to release DUST early, scrap WoD, or kill off EvE.

No, no it shouldn't, Why in the **** are half of you people TRYING to destroy EVE? You're going to push them too far, investors will back out, EVE WILL DIE if you people don't stop being so damn blood thirsty.

I am not trying to destroy EVE. Its destruction is moot.
I am trying to help people save what money they can. Altruism mixed with vengeance.

As I said, sounds like pretty much a lot of companies employees. Just read any complaint letter that an employee writes about their company. They all ***** about long hours, poor pay, lack of professionalism in the management, etc, etc. Nothing new. I'm not saying such conditions are right or wrong.
It's amusing they are all anonymous though. Scared to show their face even though they hate their working conditions?
Have you also noticed how 50% of those reviews are from "past employees"?
The reason these are anonymous is that badmouthing your past employer may very badly affect your prospects for employment with many game companies.

I have no doubt there are those at CCP who disagree with their actions on moral grounds, AS WELL as knowing it's doomed to fail and will ultimately cost them their jobs.
Unfortunately those people aren't in management.
What will happen though, is those people (and others, even ones who don't disagree) will be leaving the company soon. Both to not have their name tied to a NGE, AND because if CCP survives this (doubtful) there are going to be a lot less than the 600 jobs they have currently available.

But that's how CCP started up, you fool. CCP ran nice and steady for years with a relatively small, close-knit, like minded team of people who were in it not just for money but to make a quality product.
What is it with these people going 'yeah well businesses have to make money somehow'. We know companies have to make money to survive but a balance between money, quality control and consumer loyalty has to be struck. CCP is now monstroussly inbalanced.
I have worked for some of such kind of companies.
They start and grow VERY well but one day they wake up as proper mid-sized corporations, with all the big challenges and professionalism required to keep them going.
Suddenly the close knit group of friends (now top managers) becomes a liability: they still think they are in the "all friends" phase, while the company outgrows their capability to manage it.
The result is a giant with fragile feet, ready to collapse at the first non trivial issue.
CCP is this.

The way they are handling things it's just a matter of time before EVE dies. The only way to (hopefully) save it is new management. And new management wont happen unless the current management's decisions cost the company enough money for them to be replaced (hence why we cancelling and posting about this in forums around he web instead of just going straight to biomassing.)
So it wont be pretty either way. Either we get them to change course now that we still have time and subscriptions to keep EVE alive or we wait and see EVE milked and destroyed by MTs in an attempt to salvage CCP and the other 2 games from their bad decisions. |

Only speaking for myself, however I wouldn't think it's too far-fetched of an idea that vet players like myself would rather see our beloved game burn in flames than become a pay-to-win mockery.

CCP Games Anonymous in Reykjavik (Iceland): (Past Employee - 2011) ôThe longer you stay the more it hurtsö 1 of 1 people found this helpful
Pros
The Reykjavik office is very family friendly and youÆll often find children running around the office. During lunch it is also acceptable to bring in spouses and children. If you have a family and want to spend additional time with them this could be a way.
ItÆs a place where anyone can get a start in the industry because turnover in departments like QA is still rather high. The way you talk matters more than your actual experience and you can take advantage of this during the interviews.
The Atlanta office is a different place and doesnÆt suffer from the serious unprofessionalism as much as the Reykjavik office. The sad thing is that they too pay the price by seeing their work halted for years at a time to jump ship and bandage EVE up.
Cons
The lack of professionalism is mind blowing. Procedures that are common in other companies are not used here and considered a waste of time. There is no solid vision for EVE which leaves employees with no other option than to start work and find out what is wanted by trial and error, this is what CCP means with Agile development.
Fun game play is not a priority, promises made to investors and aesthetics are. æIf it looks good then it is goodÆ is an often heard motto. CCP is committed to use technology in EVE as well as WoD and DUST, so certain features are made and used in EVE knowing they will not be fun, nor fit EVE and no one expects them to be appreciated by the playerbase. Alienating the playerbase of EVE further. Objections from employees who point this out are waved away.
CCP does not take criticism well and often ignores retrospectives. Criticism is considered to be a negative attitude and is severely frowned upon. A lot of effort goes into maintaining a good morale with a lot of internal PR. After all itÆs cheaper to print posters than pay an average salary to employees.
Several years now CCP has predicated insane subscriber goals that cannot be met. Naturally this is met with scepticism by the employees but it falls on deaf ears. The result is that the company is suffering because we cannot sustain the development of EVE, DUST and WOD. EVE is not creating enough revenue which means that solutions are sought, solutions that CCP was vehemently against a few years ago.
Career progression is nonexistent unless you become friends with the right clique of people and use the right corporate buzzwords. Hard work is not something that will set you apart, most people work hard until they become so disillusioned as they realise it makes no difference and slack off.
Combine this with the below average pay (CCP pays 30% to 50% less than other companies) and youÆll often hear a lot of frustration when work is discussed outside of the office by people who have been here for some time. The longer you stay the less you start to care about the game you develope, because no one else does.
Advice to Senior Management
Recruit very senior people from the games industry and actually listen to what they say. Stop believing your own hype. ________________________________________________________________________________________________
It seems this is just a culmination of failed management.

if the guys making it don't think it can be saved then i think i'm gonna just go with that

Agreed. I had read this a couple of days ago and it did not sit well. However, it was the Hilmar email that was the final nail for me. I'd love to see things turn around and a change of corporate culture take place but the glassdoor site indicate anything but that will happen.

wow.
If those are real reviews by past/present employees, i must say, it does draw some perspective as to who is at fault. And who is to blame.
I kind of feel sad for the low level employees now. I can totally envision the atmosphere they painted. I often wondered why they spent so much money on all the Fluff i.e. All the TV show stuff, documentary crap, Chess boxing, etc etc, instead of on the game itself.
Maybe theres a bit of immaturity at the very senior levels of the company? And maybe a sort of "Guarded King and his blood henchmen" atmosphere.
I really do feel sorry for the employees who had no choice in the direction of eve.
The senior leadership is playing Dice with their livelihoods. Its sad. He bent on black. And sure enough if the ball isnt spinning on red.......

The truly alarming part of that link is how many of those comments came in the last few months. That speaks volumes to me. It indicates a shift of some sort within the atmosphere of the company, most likely the shift that we are now seeing appear publically.
