Originally by: Ne Oublie We didn't just let them do it, though. We crushed them. We took several teams of GMs on the floor and located, identified, and suspended or closed the accounts of the player who were attempting to cause havock on our realms. This, I think, is what you should be doing now.
And this is why that won't work:
1. EVE is not WoW. (That bears repeating.)
2. EVE runs on a single shard; WoW runs on a hundred. What you do in one shard doesn't necessarily affect the other shards; likewise, the communities are more splintered. Even if one catches fire, the odds of that fire spreading are lessened.
3. It's already *caught* fire. This is no longer a case (if it ever was) of a handful of rabble rousers. In order to douse these flames in the kind of quick, decisive way you would be handing out literally thousands of bans.
4. The ice right now is extremely thin; even temp bans today could fairly easily turn into rage-cancels tomorrow. I'm sure that the GMs understand this (otherwise they would have done as you suggested by now).
5. Unlike WoW, the average EVE player has something like 1.7 accounts; a lot of those rage-cancels are going to bring multiple cancellations.
6. It will burn itself out (although CCP's actions do keep throwing fuel into the fire). The servers are already reinforced; they're not going down, and the gates can and have been closed whenever they might have gotten close. Even if they do manage to take down a node, it doesn't take it down for everyone, only the 1-2 thousand or so in that system. (because, as I said, I guarantee you that the systems where this is happening have already been reinforced.) Remember, EVE is not WoW.
7. This has been building up for a long time; it's like a forest fire. When you keep trying to stamp out all the little fires, eventually you're going to get a big one, because stuff builds up. Trying to stop it now will not only not work, it'll just make for even more fuel next time.
8. Because of its single shard nature, the community is much more closely knit; rage-cancels are more likely to spider out than in WoW.
Oop, almost forgot..
9. EVE doesn't have WoW's 8 digit subscription number; cancels are going to be a bigger deal to them.
(All that having been said, if they hadn't nerfed the AoE DD, it'd be funny as hell to see a Titan show up in Jita and DD the place.)
