I cant help you with the smuggling or slaving part of your question. Regarding piracy: piracy in a frigate is possible but very hard to pull of alone. I'd advise either using a kestrel with 1mn mwd, web and scrambler or looking into using interceptors. A crow with a 20kms warpscrambler is possible and allows you to stay outside of web-range. A better bet for solo piracy would be to get yourself a high-end cruiser or battlecruiser.

To start pirating I would adivse you to do the following:
Buy the following stuff (and skills to use it):
-Kestrel -7.5 kms warpscrambler -1mn MicroWarpdrive -Webbifier
-4x Rocketlauncher -1 cap power relay -1 ballistic control or another cap power relay.
Fit all the stuff and put a mix of rockets into your launchers. Now set a course for the nearest system with a security status lower than 0.5 AND with players in space (use the map to display number of players in space). When you arrive there you check local chat. If there are lots of other pirates there or lots of people from the same corporation just move on to the next system. Once you've found a system with some potential customers it is time to find them. For this you can use the scanner. There should be some good threads in the forums about how to best use the scanner I suggest you read those first. Another method is simply warping from belt to belt until you have found someone.

When you dont have a bad security status people wont expect you to pirat them so you should be safe. What we are looking for since we're in a kestrel frigate is something we can kill. I suggest you steer clear of any cruisers that are not mining (using mining lasers and mining drones). Once you've located a nice target you fire up your mwd and start to orbit them at 4 or 5 kms. As you move towards them you target them when you are at around 15 kms. when you have a target lock you first activate your scrambler and then your webber. next up you start to fire rockets at them until they (or you) die. Since our target is probably a cheap cruiser or a frigate there is no need to try and get a ransom from them, just blow them to bits. Once they're blown up quickly orbit and target their escape capsule and warpscramble it. Once you have it warpscrambled you open up a convo to the customer and either ask him for money or say something witty. If he pays you let him go, if he doesn;t you blow him up.

Now at this point several things have happened. First your security status will have dropped dramatically (especially the podkilling has hurt your sec status). Second is that you are now 'Criminally Flagged', this means that for the next 15 minutes (20 to be sure) all players can fire at you and if you come close to a stargate or station the sentryguns will fry your shiny Kestrel. So you need to warp between belts and planets for some time. Once your flag has gone you're once again safe to prowl the spacelanes. You are now officially a Pirate .

Ya, but in normal circumstances you'd not be able to put a dent in a Battleship using a normal frigate. Your best bet would be to get the hell out and call in some buddies.

Originally by: Eyeshadow Just a little bit of info there for you. Oh and if u intend to pirate in a frigate, expect to lose quite a few. Ask Doc, ive lost count of how many ceptors hes lost while pirating
Yarr, never pirate in a ship you cant afford to replace. Being a pirate is hard work and it is very difficult to really make money out of piracy. Those who tell you otherwise just have a mining als they're very ashamed of. Real pirates are poor, that's why we're allways on the prowl .

Depends really, if you're lucky enough to jump into a paying customer in a battleship or an old player in a pod you can easily get 30 million. From smalltimers in cruisers you could get 2-3 million max for ransomming their ship. The best surprises are when you kill somebody and find some nice loot in their cans, named cargo expanders or named guns can be worth quite a lot of money. But the bottom line is that piracy is unlikely to pay your bills.

Most people have insured their ships and most of the targets you get when you start piracy are not very rich people. They will not pay you because they dont have money or because they dont want to pay. Everytime you attack a ship your security status goes doen. Everytime you destroy a ship your security status goes down even worse. Everytime you blow up an escape pod your security status goes down like lead. Once you've gone below -1.0 (I think) people are able to place a bounty on your head, you'll be 'Wanted' then. You should keep in mind though that once your security status goes below -1.8 you will no longer be allowed to enter 1.0 systems. The worse your security status gets the less systems you'll be allowed in. Once you hit -5.0 EVERYBODY can attack you ANYWHERE without concord coming over to help you out.
