While not worth trillions like Akita, I am a major player in a very large market (check this character's posts for a hint of what I do) and my main is well known in some circles. I am wealthy enough to have a personal titan, all of the characters and items I want and my several Eve accounts (would have been) paid for with PLEX until the servers shut down. Aurum does not threaten me personally.
Here's why, as it stands, I'm unsubbing once the current PLEX time runs out:
-As has been pointed out here earlier, gold ammo takes the game out of the sandbox. A gold ammo marketplace will, if competently done, instantly destroy the market for non-gold ammo. This alone is enough to turn me off the market segment of the game, the only part I really like;
-The next logical step is PLEX for remaps/SP reassignment, which instantly destroys another part of the game I like;
-The newsletter mentions rewarding sovholders with aurum as a possibility. Hello, (even more) incentives to hold space to RMT it;
-The 3,600 aurum clothes are an insult to my intelligence.
These are all reasons to hate aurum and unsub in due course. Here's the reason that, unless this is reversed, I will actually *actively* quit Eve:
This game has been fundamentally broken for over a year and a half. Holding sovereign space and contesting it is actively painful. There are 2,500 supercapitals in Eve right now, increasing at ~500/quarter; they are physically unkillable in large numbers (a logged off fleet means you can only get 5-10 before they vanish) so by the end of next year there should be 5,000 of them in game and fleets of 500 supers will be all but mathematically invincible. That is simply the tip of the iceberg in an ever-more-broken balance; Gallente/hybrids have been needing help for years, POS need help, 2.5 races are all but useless in PvP, etc., etc., etc. No expansion since Apocrypha has delivered on half of what it promised, every feature is always released half-finished, and almost every patch is actively broken in a major way.
This expansion has been planned for two years. As we all know, it is nothing more than an alpha test for WoD with zero improvements to Eve of any kind. Indeed, it makes the game worse, because I'm now staring at a wall whenever I dock. How well have they coded this glorious new feature set they've had planned for forever? Well, it melts my videocard if I turn CQ on, its crowning achievement is a $68 monocle that can apparently turn my avatar invisible on the forums (and there are only 8 items in the store so they can't even do *that* right), and I still can't actually walk in stations. But the 15 seconds of WASD'ing my way around my apartment looked okay, I guess (not really.)
In exchange for this glorious achievement, I've been offered a 1.03 PLEX-costing aurum jacket that directly insults my intelligence, told that one of the core promises that CCP has made us is being walked back on, told that Incarna was a smashing success because they've sold a whopping 52 monocles, told that we are all whiners (I especially liked that the CEO retweeted that, BTW), and told that if I want my titan to do max damage I (well, some sucker) will likely have to pay for the privilege.
Basically, I'm not convinced that Eve will ever be a better game than it is now. Loot pinataing some RMT'er will only make so many tears and this game's really not very good at the moment to start with, so why bother? May as well just rage a bit and then quit.
