Dear CCP,
You made EVE online. No question about that. You built a world that is a sandbox and then turned it over to your players, who loved you for it and loved your game. Now, 8 years after the release, many of these players have spent more time and effort on this sandbox world than some of your developers and other employees can claim to have. You gave us this sandbox and we built something with it. By right of use it has become as much ours as it is yours.
By letting us have a stake in this world, by letting us help to build and shape it you have entered into a co-dependency with us. We play the game because we have a stake in it, because it's partly ours and therefore you cannot ignore us or break what we have helped to build without consequence. If you do you will take away our foremost reason to play, and you will be left alone with your game.
Wake up from your corporate slumber. Step out of the conference rooms and management offices. Give the lawyers and accountants a day off, have a sit down with your creative employees - the artists, the programmers, the designers - and do your utmost to rekindle that love for EVE, that passion that makes this world go round.
Sincerely,
Me

CCP has built a universe and we are its constituents. We have skin in the game, our voice should be heard.
For good to survive it suffices for evil to acquire a deadly, incapacitating disease. |

Agreed. It takes accountants to give bighead CCP kings $1000 Japanese pants. And it takes creative designers and artists to keep a good game alive. I hope tha best for CCP for making the only really good space sim game for the past fkkin decade, but I would like it to stay that way for a few more years too. Afterall, I only been able to play with my capital ships for 2 months! |

So, we've had denial, anger, and now bargaining. Next is depression and then acceptance of Eve's death.

Very well said but ...
It is still their game, they own the IP and that will not change until it is sold. To take a rather gruesome example, a does a flea have "rights" because it feeds on its hosts body? We are further up the chain than the example but the concept still holds out.
We play the game and pay for the pleasure. If we do not like what the owners have done then we react in a manner that we believe would be most effective to show our displeasure. Hopefully that follows the path of diplomacy and collaboration.
What saddens me about the whole affair is that we have found out what CCP really thinks of the playerbase and it is not constructive. If you care for your customer, then you will be rewarded with loyalty, and as soon as you take your customer for granted - you lose.
I am intrigued to see what the coming week unfolds both with the playerbase and the reaction from CCP (and investors). I hope it improves customer base relations in the long run

here here, 3 years of subscription 3 accounts. I hope with all my heart they stay true to their players. Thats what has set them apart from the rest, and if they do this they will break their word and the trust in one hit. Please ccp listen to your players, your fans, people who have stuck by you and with you for years. You said 'vanity items only', for the most part everyone actually likes it (well, if it was more reasonably priced that is) and we understand you need invent ways to tie the worlds of dust and eve together, but this so called 'microtransaction future' has everyone concerned and the masses will migrate elsewhere as they did not invest their time, money and passion into a 'mt' eve.

That was well said. I connect with it.
I've been wanting to say something very similar. Six years is long time to play a video game. I've said it in so many ways to my friends that I'm not here for the game, I'm here for my friends and this community. The sandbox.
I view EVE Online as collection of sandbox community tools provided by gamers invested in exploring innovative concepts to further human interactions without setting monetizing limits. The expressed a passionate belief behind the language that said "we will never charge more for premium content or expansions". In fact I was encouraged by CCP to view it that way.
Till recently, I viewed CCP was deeply rooted in the ideas that inspired the creation of the company. To arrogantly take position that a corporation can put a price tag on identity, experiences and social interactions ... that pixel pants or designers jeans in real life can define a person ... that they can sell a virtual world that is more meaningful than real life is ... is incredibly soulless ... it is far from the founding spirit of this little Icelandic gamer company that told me they were better than the corporate developers because they will always put the relationship with the community before profit. They sold me that expectation. I believed them.
I feel your words Sophie.
You can express it better than I can right now because I'm muddled with a desire to so much more.
[Cy + blog] This song sums up my current feelings about NeX. |

Edited by: Jericho Wolf on 26/06/2011 10:24:35 Plus klandi i dont think your comparison holds up, as a dog does not need the flee to exist, whereas ccp needs its players to exist and to grow. When you think about it, the players would have to be the biggest investors of all, one of the biggest reasons i love this game so much is the relationship that players have with the devs. What other game has it???..... i've never seen developers work so hand in hand with it's players to deliver more and more punch to their game. It's truely amazing. But the last week has really shocked me, the released 'leak' and furthermore ccp's treatment of it and of the players up in arms. CCP really needs to give clarity on this sooner rather then later.

So what if an item is overpriced - exercise your right NOT to buy. You are not forced or coerced into the transaction! So what relevance does it have?
Same in RL - you don't complain to Gucci that their goods are hideously expensive - you exercise your right NOT TO BUY!!!
MT cannot affect you if you don't let it. It is your right to ignore it
MT, vanity items and the like is the symptom - focus on the cause
