I understand that, in general, people do not like 'change'. The "leaked" rumors could also pose a potential threat or significant change. But I cannot understand why there are those who have very little faith in CCP?
Afterall, this whole idea of EVE was CCP's idea in the first place - and we choose to play this game not because of a lack of other options (there are plenty), but because the game is actually fun. CCP has done an outstanding job over the past 8 years, and in my opinion EVE has 'proven' to be the best sci-fi offering in the MMO market. period. We pay the bills and invest many man-hours into the game or in support of the game, but it is CCP that created and maintains the game.. and it is the hard-working developers at CCP that gave us something innovative and enjoyable.
There will always be a rumor-mill, there will always be choices that CCP must make with the data they have available (and we cannot see as players), and I am more than certain that CCP has evaluated tons of different ideas that we, as the players, will either never know about or don't 'need' to know about.. emphasizing that 'speculating' on an idea is not the same as implementing an idea.. and for the ideas they are not 'certain' they will implement.. frankly, we really don't need to know about them. Because an idea that exists but 'is not' or 'will not' be implemented does not affect us.
So, the whole leaked document business is a total waste of time - IF it is 100% genuine and it is LEAKED.. that means that CCP did not release it intentionally. So, if they haven't implemented these ideas and they didn't release this information.. then why do they owe us an explanation for it? When and if ever they have something to communicate to the playerbase, I am more than certain they will be obliged to. And if one were to simply look around at many of the other game offerings out there, realize that CCP is at the very top of the spectrum as far as communication with its players and fanbase goes.
Micro-transactions are a worthwhile venture. There are many offerings out there that survive solely based on micro-transactions. They currently do not affect gameplay and CCP did not mention any plans to offer any game changing items in the future. Some say the prices are outrageous. Well, in regards to the virtual store and 'supply and demand', there is an infinite supply which leaves the demand only. Since they are vanity items, the only demand is really the 'cool' factor. If the price of an item makes it available to only a small percentage, then it becomes a rarity and retains its coolness. However, if the price of a vanity item is so low that all players can afford it, whether real-world money exchanged or in-game ISK exchanged, then the demand/coolness factor becomes completely devalued and the item deemed worthless. Nevertheless, I don't believe the 'introductory' vanity prices are set in stone and they are destined to fluctuate.
Also, keep in mind that CCP has not charged any additional monies for the expansions they have released over the years. Whereas to get started in some other games, you don't simply pay $20 - you pay for every expansion to current they have released on top of the monthly subscription fee. You also might have to pay $30 here or $20 there for a character transfer or a faction change if you so choose, etc.
CCP is not as large as some of the juggernaut companies out there who only 'do' care about hoarding your money, but at the same time they are a business and they need to 'grow' and 'expand'. Right now it appears that they are doing just that with all of the different opportunities they have sanctioned. Yet, they have provided you with entertainment for all these years and you are not supportive of them in return? If you call yourself a fan, you must have faith in the very company that you claim to be a fan of.
CCP has and 'will' always be faced with making choices that are good for both players and their business. Let them.

I pay CCP to pew pew with internet spaceships. If the pew pew with spaceships is not up to standard or they change the rules of the pew pewing then it is in my right as a customer to complain. If they want to invest in the game to attract more players they are free to do so, they may even make a profit out of it. They are a business afterall.
I am not a supportive fan nor is CCP a supportive company. Where was CCP during my trails and tribulations in RL. There is no trust for CCP, nor should CCP trust me to renew my sub every time it is likely to expire.

I agree that the details of the newsletter are not conclusive but what seems to be the big worry right now is that CCP has not come out and said that there will be no MT beyond vanity. The general perception is that they are unwilling to do so. I myself was getting worried at how the question was not being answered but I have my hopes on the upcoming CSM summit.
I approve of protesters who want to see their game stay on a positive track. I think their protest is healthy for New Eden. But as of late there have been too many people who just want to be vindicated and hope that CCP is actually running the game into the ground. It is these posters who secretly just hope it will happen so they can say "I told u so" that I greatly disapprove of. The latter mentality is just obstructive and i have already seem some of it floating around. This is perhaps where the backlash against the protesters is coming from.
I hope for the best but am prepared for the worst. I wan't Eve to succeed but if non-vanity MT comes, I will unsubscribe. (for the record I do not consider myself to be an active protester but I am somewhat dissatisfied with the recent actions of CCP) |

+1 to the OP.
CCP has made mistakes, and good changes...internet spaceship pew pew is still here and still works. Everything else is based on speculation, leaked controversial discussion documents, and CCP denying to give into the ******ed demand of players to commit to saying non-vanity items for MT's which makes perfect business sense. CCP does not know the future and will NOT start promising things that may affect possibilities of the NeX (That doesnt mean they WILL....just they retain to have the option).
The Dev alt slander reply posts are getting absolutely stupid now and even the protesters are realizing that.

if you want it you pay for it, if you dont want it why do you care?
honestly, they could make the pants 100$ if someone wated it enough, they'd still pay for it
Prices are high, yes, and yet items get sold. CCP just set the price high instead of low, to see if ppl actually pay that much.

I am not a CCP alt, I am a new EVE player. But I have played MMOs since their inception, I realize the implications here, and this type of thing is not new. Many companies break their 'promises', it is the nature of the beast - the game industry, and beyond. And they cannot always explain the 'why' in full detail, as is the nature of the business as well; but there is always a very good explanation. I'm pretty sure they didn't cancel any plans to do something they said they would do to be mean. Again, there has to be and always is a very good explanation whether they can share it with you or not. At least from the likes of one of the good guys in this industry (read CCP). So, we need to keep that in mind.
But I can definitely see where you all are coming from - you are given an expectation, it is not fulfilled.. or there is uncertainty about the future.. there's going to be some hurt feelings. Although the action of some players doesn't seem like the best option. Players can get their point across and have their voices heard without being disruptive - as I'm sure some players have done and others have not. And that's all I'm trying to get at, if you are a fan then just be reasonable about it all.

+1 to OP for a well-written post.
I have always been supportive of CCP and been called "fan-boi" and troll when I've defended them to the teeth.
The latest revelations, however, have made my support dwindle and the sheer arrogance portraied in the latest blogs and leaked mails and newletters have not helped CCP's cause.
They need to catch lightning in a bottle to turn this sinking ship, because for the first time in many years I actually think it's becoming pointless to invest any further effort and time into this game. The playerbase have asked on countless occasions about MT and whether it will feature game-enhancing products.
A simple "hell no!" would suffice, yet, they're silent and have already posted two blogs that don't address the issue but only served to infect the problem even further.

that's true.
I agree with what tahir said but i also think that the protest is not a wrong thing, it is a way to give voice to our fears.
I'll personally keep playing 'till the first game-affecting item is going to spawn, then i'll quit to something else.
I also think that, if CCP is going to resolve major problems with this expansion, Incarna is a great step forward even if i still play with station environment disabled, i hope that ccp is going to make it better and to give a real sense in walking in stations, i wouldn't be surprised if in future you'll have to find a man's avatar in order to open a trade window, many will complain about it not being as fast as before, but i think that it won't be a bad thing in terms of realism, just think that if things were like that already when the game was launched noone would actually care about it (and instead, people would complain if a more direct kind of interaction between players was implemented).
In the end, i say no to non-vanity items, but to any other thing i'd say: why not? changes are cool sometimes, just try to adapt and in the end you'll like it.
P.S. Dust 514 is going to have some affecting game items and i'm completely fine with that, why? 'cause there was no other way to hit the console industry, so I think that if I was in ccp $1000 japanese pants i'd do the same thing. And i played games where game-affecting items were sold for real money but people could still play at best levels without spending a cent.
P.P.S. forgive my bad english.

I too have been a long time supporter of CCP. I have defended them in numerous posts, I loved their stance on keeping Eve fairly hardcore.
But as has been posted by numerous people, the events of the past week have been pretty telling! The fact we are not getting an answer to the queston that has been asked hundreds (if not thousands) of time on the forums, tells me a lot...

Yep. CCP's comments thus far have not corralled themselves into any commitment. Therefore, there's only one answer that to our question. So, prepare yourselves.

CCP has taken on the role of "The Cheating Boyfriend" (or girlfriend for the guys). They've been found out and now they're trying to smooth things out by asking for advice from people they should have consulted in the first place, posting petty apologies on the forum, posting two (insignificant) blogs, but otherwise staying utterly silent to the ones that demand an answer:
The community.
I see a lot of people talking about "ending their marriage" to EVE Online and that is what it feels like to many; a long-term partnership crashing and burning in a very short while because of broken trust and promises.
I wasn't up-in-arms over Fearless and I didn't care much about that leaked e-mail either. However, everything taken into account and the uncertainty and silence is making it worse by the day. My partnership will end if I'm not satisfied, just like a portion of the playerbase already has done.

Thanks. And you make a good, valid point. Its not uncommon for devs to be silent about an issue while they are still hashing things out. They will break their silence when they are prepared to give the answer - and I think its fair to say we shouldn't jump to conclusions about what direction they are headed based on second hand information.
When it comes to game-changing items, I think CCP is smart enough to not make a decision that will ruin the game that they created and envisioned. If a player can 'win' the game because they happen to be rich or well-off in real life then that's not a game/challenge at all and I'm certain that CCP realizes that.
So if they 'do' add some in-game items to MT, it will most definitely be affordable to many veteran players and virtually all alliances via converted ISK - and it probably won't be any better than or even close to what's currently available in the game. Again, just being reasonable.
If they wanted to, they could have made plenty of changes (at any point in time) to make the game easier and yield to the status quo (Warcraft in Space) in order to increase their subscription base. But they did not - they opted for the player experience (of the players they already had).
