Difference is: PLEX are part of the player based economy.
Every PLEX sold potentially enables another smart player to play Eve for free another month.

And yet another moron doesn't realise the difference between plex being part of a player run economy and CCP conjuring stuff from thin air automagically
Pay 2 win completely bypasses one of the things that make eve great, sure you can sell plex for isk and buy shiney new toys but someone somewhere made that shiney new toy, someone somewhere bought that plex for hard cash, this is the player run economy. With the MT store, the player is completely bypassed, none of the money comes back into the economy it goes straight into paying for $1000 jeans for CCP employees who have a massive disconnect from reality, much like the OP.
