Edited by: Tyymm on 27/06/2011 21:14:00 Edited by: Tyymm on 27/06/2011 21:10:53 Lets say I wanted to park a toon in system to help any/all miners in an open alliance fleet (i'm a nice guy like that!).
Will Rorqual's give significantly better boosting than orcas, or will an orca booster be good or equal to a rorq. I'm not super intersted in helping peoples capacitor usage, so those other 2 modules are all I really care about.
Lets take the Jump-Drive and Ore compression out of the equation, and only talk about fleet boosting. Do Rorq's fleet-boost better than Orcas?
I've already got Leadership 5, what other skills would help? :)
Thanks in advance!!

You do not want to be doing that in a Rorqual without some serious firepower on your side to keep opportunists from ending your fun in minutes.
You can only fly and siege a Rorqual in lowsec or 0.0. Other than that, the major advantage is the ore compression, reducing the need for hauling. Personally I wouldn't move the thing outside a POS unless I was sure that the system was locked down by friendlies, let alone inviting random people into my fleet to mine.

My plan is to have an open alliance fleet, in 0.0, and just AFK in a POS, so that any miners nearby can reap the benefits of my modules.
The bonus for Orca's says 3% per level, but Rorq's say 10% per level, while deployed
So, if the plan is to afk (probably not deployed, as that uses fuel, right?) I should be in an orca?

The Rorq doesn't use fuel in siege mode. Also in order to make use of compression, you can't really be AFK as the compression BPO cycles every 48 seconds (at industry V). If you're AFK you won't be compressing which is the main advantage of having a Rorq running in the first place. The extra bonus to links is nice, but not a dealbreaker.

Thanks :) so Orca sounds like the better ship for what I'm looking to do?

Well, if you're behind a POS shield, it doesn't really matter a whole lot. Uncompressed Rorqs hold about as much as an Orca and dish out a tiny bit more in bonuses. Thing is that you are dropping just over 1b to not use most of what the Rorq has to offer, by being AFK. But that really is a personal decision. I'm kind of a hardass when it comes to buying stuff I don't really make full use of.

Assuming you are in lowsec or 0.0, the Rorqual gives significantly better fleet boost for the same skill level (although the skill takes longer to train IIRC). It DOES use fuel while deployed (heavy water) but HW is relatively inexpensive.
You can park the Rorqual inside a POS shield while it is deployed, to minimize any risk of adventurism on the part of the local toughs.
The more hulks and macs in the mining fleet, the more impact the Rorqual will have on overall mining production. Also, being jump capable, it can be a lot safer to get around hostile areas of space. __________________________________________________ Name a shrub after me; something prickly and hard to eradicate. |

Yes, it does. The Industrial Core (which you activate to enter deployed mode) consumes Heavy Water each cycle. How much depends on your Industrial Reconfiguration and Capital Industrial Ship skill levels.

Cool, so I'm gonna lead towards Orca -- cheaper skills, cheaper ship, and CLOSE on the bonuses. Sounds like a win :D

To give you some actual numbers, with max skills and mindlink:
Deployed rorqual: -33.75% bonus/mining speed ganglink Orca: -25.88% same link
The rorqual is about 30% more boost than the Orca, but will consume some fuel. It's up to you if this worth it.
On the other hand, Rorquals do have jump drives, which makes relocating them in 0.0 much easier.

Use a Rorqual if you can. It costs about 180,000 ISK/hour to use the Industrial Core, which is peanuts.
A maxed Rorqual is roughly 20% beter than an Orca.
A maxed mindlinked Rorqual pilot gives a bonus of: mindlink bonus / (1 - link * mining director * warfare specialist * mindlink bonus * rorqual bonus) = 1.15 / (1 - 0.02 * 5 * 1.5 * 1.5 * 1.5) = 1.7358, or 74% more ore
A maxed mindlinked Orca pilot gives a bonus of: mindlink bonus / (1 - link * mining director * warfare specialist * mindlink bonus * orca bonus) = 1.15 / (1 - 0.02 * 5 * 1.5 * 1.5 * 1.15) = 1.5514, or 55% more ore

A rorqual requires 100% dedication to the mining mission taking place. It is a platform built around its undeniable ability to make a group of miners successful in lowsec or 0.0. You can tractor beam from 200km out. You can boost anything they need, and at a much much better % than an Orca. It can compress 8m m3 of ore into fitting into one Cargo/Ore hold full. It WILL make you rich.
So if you only want boosting, dont buy the Rorqual, as it will be too good for you.
