Edited by: Moonasha on 27/06/2011 21:33:31 I've been pondering this because I want to min max this, lol.
So you have to factor in warp speed, align time, and max speed when burning to the gate (15km).
Right now I've settled on a claw, with 3ODs, one nano, polycarbon, and a hyperspacial optimizer. The vigil is a close second.
Since the eve universe is so varied, the best way to test this would be to just clock an autopilot from say, jita to amarr, to find the optimal setup.
Any other ship ideas?

edit: I really wouldn't bother fitting an autopilot ship. It's a good way to get alpha'ed by someone's throw-away alt just for giggles.

This thread comes up about once a month. I think the general consensus is usually an ODd inty with a MWD and something heavy on the F1 key.

Nano'd, poly carbed vigil is usually the best

I've actually tried this, and my modules wouldn't activate after warping. Should they have? Is there some trick? Or is this simply a cynical turn of phrase?

I havn't tried since I reactivated my acct, but it USED to work
you would move the MWD to the F1 slot, set course(activate auto), jam something in the keyboard(I used to use an old coin), walk away

Yeah, that's about it. Which ship you use isn't really a big deal, though. Any frigate that is cap stable enough to warp constantly while spamming the MWD is a winner. You'll only lose a couple of seconds compared to the higher warp speed and sublight of an inty. If I'm somewhere and want to AFK somewhere else in a hurry, I usually just buy that for a quick 30-40k.
Where this really shines though is moving bigger ships. On a 20 jump trip you can shave off about half or 3/4 of the time by doing this. With fast frigates you're only saving about 20 seconds per gate, but with a BS or a hauler, you'd be saving about 3-5 minutes.

Yeah, the best way to account for immense variability is to use a tiny sample size (13 jumps) along the busiest highway in New Eden.
If you get suicide ganked, you'll probably conclude that autopiloting between those two systems takes an infinite amount of time.
In case the sarcasm is a bit too thick here OP, I'm suggesting that your conclusions do not follow logically from your premises.

autopilot though a lowsec system with smartbombing battleships in it, it will get you to your destination real fast

I'd say that claw would be your best bet. Or the stiletto. Whichever one has the faster warp-speed bonus. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "If men make war in slavish obedience to rules, they will fail." ~ Ulysses S. Grant |

Something like this:
[Vigil, New Setup 4] Nanofiber Internal Structure II Nanofiber Internal Structure II Nanofiber Internal Structure II
1MN Afterburner II [empty med slot] [empty med slot]
[empty high slot] [empty high slot] [empty high slot]
Small Auxiliary Thrusters I Small Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer I Small Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer I
...You can also drop the AB for an mse and throw on some invulns if you want to carry some high value goods. (The AB is there for those odd times you look at your pc screen and are approaching a gate..).
Has a base speed of 702m/s, aligns 2.2sec, warps at 8.6 au/s ... so it is in every way faster than a shuttle, and is impossible to catch (is a perfect high sec blockade runner).
