While i'm not 100% certain, I'm going to say this can't be done or we'd have to re-author all the clothes because of their attributes to achieve it, that's a lot of work. Also the clothing models are made specific to gender and race, the avatar would clip through the clothes in a lot of places, it would look terrible.

Yes, I remember this as well, in the early builds I could choose Gallente clothes for my Caldari character.

Please make a bug report for this problem and let us know how you setup your character :)
Feel free to make bug reports for any other problems you find. The more bugs that are reported, the more bugs will be fixed. :)

An even shorter answer, it breaks the look and feel of the game. Why would a Caldari pilot wear an Amarrian robe? It makes no sense. |

In 1972, a crack Caldari capsuleer was sent to prison by a military court for a crime he didn't commit. This man promptly escaped from a maximum-security stockade to the Amarrian underground. Today, still wanted by the State, he survives as a soldier of fortune. If you have a problem...if no one else can help...and if you can find him...maybe you can hire...The C-Man. |

I, as a Caldari pilot, can wear Amarr and Minmatar clothes, if you already allow that, might as well include all the colours of said clothes.

I can think of a number of reasons why they might want to. The point being, though, why not let the players make that decision? |

It makes a lot of sense for RP. People might want other clothes to support their character background, say your RP character is Amarr but he/she does live in gallente space and doesnt buy into the whole amarrian belief system. Being integrated into gallente society, it would make sense for them to chose gallentean clothing.
The other way around, a minmatar runaway slave in an amarr stations could probably chose to wear the hooded robes for the purpose of disguise.
All that would make even more sense after we actually have 'walking in station' instead of 'walking in our appartment', and I'm pretty sure someone actually into RP can easily come up with much better examples than mine. |

My god, Konflikt, are you serious? This is literally the most short-sighted answer I have ever heard a CCP official give. I am very disappointed.
Originally by: CCP Konflikt Why would a Caldari pilot wear an Amarrian robe? It makes no sense.
Firstly, ask the Caldari members of CVA. There are a lot of roleplayers who support an empire different to the one they were born under - there are a lot of Ammatar and Calamarr roleplayers who want to wear Amarrian religious garb but can't because of your inexplicable restrictions.
Secondly, there are no restrictions on what race of ships and weapons a pilot can use, regardless of race - that doesn't seem to break the "look and feel" of the game, so why should clothes or haircuts? Konflikt, let me be very clear - it breaks the feel of the game if you can't have any clothes on any character. You're seriously telling me that I, as a capsuleer with several billion ISK in his wallet (which translates into several trillion in planetary currency, according to lore), literally can't walk up to an Amarrian tailor and say "hey, that robe you're wearing. Make me one" and get a robe? No, Konflikt. That won't fly. EVE is all about being able to buy whatever you want, regardless of race. Why can't I buy myself a black leather jacket?
Thirdly, the Amarrian robes are, so far, literally the only piece of culture-specific clothing you've given us. The rest is just generic (but still perfectly nice-looking) t-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, tank tops, vests, jackets, trousers etc. that everyone should have access to in every colour variety. You've literally released no cultural clothing for any of the other races - no Intaki robes, no weird Civire shoulder thingamajigs, no transluscent Gallente clothing or ridiculous glass headdresses, no Jin-Mei or Achur kimono, no Vherokior rebreathers, etc. - there are literally no other pieces of culture-specific clothing at all. If you wanted to restrict by culture, the Amarrian robes are the only thing you'd have a valid argument for doing it for.
And please, don't even try to float me the idea that hairstyles should be race-locked. That one that you gave the Amarr (the long wavy one in my example picture) is literally only available to them, but it doesn't even require styling - are you literally telling me my character can't just grow his hair out? The long hairstyles would have made a lot more sense on the Intaki who, historically, had a ton of long hairstyles.
The character creator, as it stands, suffers from a lack of free (that is, non-NeX) content in both the clothing and hairstyle department. This problem is only ever going to be fully remedied by pushing through a lot more free clothing and hairstyles, but in the meantime, you can apply a fairly quick fix to the problem by removing these unneccessary and unjustifiable racelocks.
In short, your answer feels patronising and insulting. |

Racial differences have all but been done away with. The only plac in the game wher eit still plays a role is in etnic relations if you want to run a corp. Everywhere else it means less than nothing. I for one am for consistency. If they want racial differentiation, be consequent in it. Bring back the old skills and attribute boosts. If you don't want to do that, then be consistent in it: allow everyone to access every race's clothing and hairstyles. |

ahahahahaha.
Why would I, a non-asian, where anime shirts. It doesn't make sense.
That's about the amount of validity your argument has. Its clothing. There's no magical force stopping you from wearing some other faction's clothing.
What about a minmatar Ammatar RPer who wants to look more Amarrian? What about a Gallentean who moved to the Republic and was accepted into a matari clan and wants to get matari tattoos? What about the Intaki, they're magically not allowed to wear your generic cloak? What about an Amarrian ambassador to the State? Trying to get in touch with the secular groups there and not come off as religious and stodgy. There are endless reasons to allow this and one real reason to not allow it:
CCP is trying to force us to use the overpriced NeX store to personalize our avatars, and giving us any options for free directly conflicts with that. Why let everyone wear an amarrian robe, when you can change the colour of that robe and sell it for the cost of a plex?
Come out with it Konflikt. |

Edited by: Jowen Datloran on 09/07/2011 12:34:50 Sorry, CCP Konflikt, but I simply do not buy that given the ability to fly any and all type ships, regardless of race and affiliations, I cannot wear any shirt or jacket of my choice.
Hell, we can even fly pirate ships.
TO ADD: The clothing in the NeX store does not discriminate between races so if the point was that race should be recognizable through clothing, the NeX store is working against it. Be real; get rid of those silly restrictions. |

Supporting this as well, for what it's worth.
I'd love ot hae my Intaki-like clothing options back, but I don't want it restricted from any other blood-line - for reasons stated by everyone else here, while racially-motivated styles are good, there is no reason any toon can't wear any set of clothing, for virtually any reason one can imagine. If a Civire player wish to look more in-touch with his 'faction, go for it - but don't restrict the Sebeistor player besides him, in the same corp, who would love to wear the same clothes, too. He already fly under the same banner, argue the same arguments, fly the same ships...
You get the drift.
