The title about sums it up perfectly.
On a side note: The next time any of you guys with monocles want to purchase something online, contact me first. I will do you the service of selling you the item for 10 times the price. Because you paid more for it, it means it's even better than that normal priced one. Additionally, it will display how classy and rich you are.

They're only expensive if you're poor, which is why they are actually a pretty good indication of a person's level of success.

Expensive has nothing to do with your personal wealth. Buying an overpriced useless product is equally foolish for the rich as it is for the poor.
In general, the wealthy have the prudence to not waste money on useless products. Wasting ones money on trumpery is a quality of the poor and of the stupid.

That depends. If they could only be purchased by ISK and you could not buy ISK via real money > PLEX then I might agree.
On the other hand, if you buy a handful of PLEX with real money to fund your monocle, then you're just a fool. 60-80 dollars is chump change, but it's chump change best spent on something other than an in-game eye piece that really does nothing. In this situation, it is anything BUT a sign of success.

I was thinking of saving up for a monocle but then I remembered that they had them synthetic eyes on the test server which look better, I'll just wait for them to get released onto TQ and buy that instead.

I think some new players fail to appreciate the scale of wealth in Eve. For some, buying that monocle is like you buying 10 rounds of antimatter i.e. it's so cheap you don't even worry about if it's a waste or not. For once the uber rich are getting some jollies - that's not a bad thing, it creates aspiration in the talented, if you can only react angrily I expect you can guess where you fit in!!

How rich are you supposed to be to buy monocles like antimatter? I blow isk on m14 items I never undock in or unique ships quite often, but I have never considered a monocle. Guess im poor then.

... in addition it's for an item that CCP will always own. You basically gave them $60 for free. If you like, I'll draw a monocle for you... the low price of $50.
This does not show elite... rather it shows stupidity.

At least in EVE it's only ISK that your ****ing away in order to get these ships etc. that everyone dances around about all the time, but with the Nexus store your ****ing away hard earned money that could just go towards extra game time.
Seriously, I'm trying to be patient with CCP on this issue, but who the **** thought it was a good idea to put it in?!

yes well, team fortress 1 is putting together a cease and desist order to valve for sullying the good name of team fortress with the micro transaction cartoon monstrosity that they refer to as "team fortress 2"
also battlefield 2 is suing ea to change the names of bad company 1 and 2 to cod: bad company 1 and 2, but its holding off until it decides if it has to add bf3 to the suit

"if you have a monocle you have no life"
Lets be serious. After all spaceships are a serious business.
Any right minded person on this world will have better things to spend their 70$ / ú50 / Ç 60 whatever the conversion rate is, than a pixel based vanity object that looks as though you should punted in the face, repetitively.
Successful people in life, will have other means to spend that cash on, wither its rent, going out, money towards a deposit for something. Either way, anyone who contemplate spending that amount of money on plex's just for something pixel based is a ****ing moron and should be punted from the planet or kept locked in the cellar cause they are no use to civilization and or get sent back to farmville, cause you have no brain for yourself.
Now if they worked eve market etc...ratted their little carebear heads off in order to fund their own game time, and then being able to buy plex with isk from the market to sub to AURUM with money to spare for more plex, then it is their isk to do so and they obviously have plenty of spare time from being unsocial or their russian.
Majority most likely got mummuh and daddums to buy them it, cause people may look upto them if they have one, but really anyone who buys one is a ****ing dumb ass gimp, with no life.
Nearly everyone i know in eve including myself have more than enough isk to convert to ****uram but they have more braincells than the current monocle purchasers.
Anyway time to slumber in my silk pj's as Jeffrey presses my penguin suit, dusts off my Tophat, lines up a fresh cigar, and fetches a new bottle of cognac for tomorrow!

Thank you sir!
But the whole stereotyping that has now ****ed eve up more than Incarna and it needs to be monitored by CCP.
A lot of people will leave (not the OMG I WILL LEAVE IF CCP DONT FIX THIS...3 months later their still here) because they are being perceived of being poor just because they spend their isk wisely, especially with all the trolls calling people poor, their just ****ers who need a life, but instead sit behind a monitor all safe and snug.
If M$ or Apple were able to invent a monitor that you could put your arm through, then the stereotyping would cease.

Monocles aren't expensive, they just aren't worth the price.
Indeed. I wouldn't buy the current monocle for 1 AUR, not to "wear" it anyway.
Or, in other words, if they would add an ocular implant that doesn't look like somebody copied the goatsee over an eye, even if costs much more than the monocle, I would consider buying it. But not with real cash directly, obviously. Let somebody else pay the cash, I'll get the ISK.
P.S. I still probably wouldn't buy it as long as it's purely cosmetic. But I just might.

I'm anything but a new player. I can easily afford many monocles by purchasing PLEXes via ISK alone. However, I still find it to be a foolish purchase.
Just becone one can does not mean one should.
