spent a week watching a ship shoot some lasers at a rock.
had someone 'suicide gank' me in 1.0, and the cost to buy everything back that was lost is the price of what what i had 'earned' in a week of mining
so...uh....thats fun and worth worth $15/month plus watching a laser beam??

Who said Eve was fun? Eve is not an instant gratification game, well at least not at the moment anyway.
Finding a corp that can help you learn the ropes would be a good place to start, might make a difference in your eve experience.

Welcome to EvE and deeper thinking.
Or ... not.
See yourself as entering into a huge world, in which you can do whatever you want ...
... and learn the consequences of your behaviour.
It's a sandbox. You can do whatever you want,
nobody grinds you through content.
Often People fail in explaining how it works and how you should behave, in game,
and then new***s start killing rocks... which can get them killed, too. ^^
TL;DR:
Learn2play EvE, noob. Won't be missed. o/

Well, the replies to your post say it all about the EVE community. As if someone suicide ganking a noob didn't say enough in itself. There is more to the game, but the forum community is a cesspool of obnoxious trolls. In game its slighty better, but not much. And no it's not worth $15 a month, not even close.

well since they have changed the mining lasers to a constant beam, and the sounds are broken. I can understand your lack of anthousiasm.
But you should have experienced the drone of 5 mining lasers pulsing away at a large fat rock of crokite. Theres nothing like it 
Ok, but really, if someone suicide ganked you in the first week I'm actually pretty sure that counts as newbie griefing and should be petition-able.
Unless of course you were actually hauling something around worth a suicide gank.
If you did the tutorials you should have quite a few ships, modules and money already to make 1 loss less troublesome... you did do the tutorial missions right?
Speaking of which, try combat missions, exploration, and when you've found out something you do like, join a corp that does that.

While you are correct about the forums you are way off on the playerbase. As far as the price, get over it. How much does your pc cost? new games? A pitcher of beer and a side of fries? Not to mention it free if you want it to be. Now show my on the hulk where the bad pirates touched you xD

I remember when I was new and I thought that Self Destruction of my ship had some kind of AoE/Splash Damage effect. I tested this theory by flying up to some random in an asteroid belt, hoping to gain my 1st suicide kill (guess I took that a bit too literally, huh?), hit self destruct and watched my ship go POP! lol
Was a bit upset when I realized no damage had been done to the miner.
One of the funniest moments of my EVE career, aside from the time I flew my ship into a Fleet member's smart bombs.
