It could be that none of us actually play EVE, we just keep our accounts active to come to these forums and see the newest form of troll douchebaggery and critique it's form and style. As for your busy life outside the game, it obviously doesn't prevent you from camping these boards like a 35 year old basement troglodyte waiting for that 13 millisecond nipple slip you're convinced is on your Little Mermaid DVD. EVE is what you put into it, and mining as a noob is something akin to those 973,235,651 rats you sat and killed in the starting area of the last MMO you played because you were too stupid and/or cowardly to go out where the higher levels play.
Shooting rocks for profit is one thing, if not for EVE's elite corps of advanced AI's and Asian schoolchildren we wouldn't have all the fancy ships to go out and shoot each other in, but neither MINEBOT1643-A59 nor little Shin Su Mei from Guangdong province actually ENJOY mining. Nobody goes into WoW and says "I'm gonna spend 5 hours a day farming lion f0resk1ns in the Barrens on a PvP server" and then cries when they get ganked.
If you don't like the game, unsub, finish your 13 year old can of surplus Surge soda, go rub one out to that Pokemon p0rn you found last night and BE HAPPY!

I think I played an EVE trial account for maybe 2 hours before I decided it was a fantastic MMO, and bough a full year subscription. That was over 2 years and 4 accounts ago.
In EVE, everything (including boredom and lost ships) is your own fault.

actually mining in a group can be fun, the rocks die off so fast that it becomes a like relay race or something. Orcas warping in and out constantly just to keep up with the output. Entire systems being stripped clean of all materiel accessible to a Strip Miner II
I also had some fun the other day...
I mined a full can of basic veldspar in a newby starter system using my vargur (yes a marauder with only 4 lasers). I then turned the can blue and started tractoring it around the belt announcing local i had free ore. It took a while to have someone even check to see that i wasnt BSing them but what's funny is the first one to show up was a golem.
Him and i spent a good 10 minutes slowboating around this belt with him chasing after my prize can i was tractoring away
i started to get industrials and other ppl showing up as they began to realize it was legit free ore. I swapped cans temporarily so it belong to me again so no one would take it and i left to fit a MWD....
I came back and had ships following me around trying to catch it and I would MWD away when they would get close
sadly no, i dont have a sped up recording of these events to the song Yackety Sax on youtube...
But I def want to do that next time i try it....

Eve isn't about mindless fun, and the day it is, is the day I leave...
The fun is the slow progression from a new player to a "space god" in your chosen arena, be it wallet size, political connections and influence, or countless other arenas.
If you can't take the time to enjoy the bigger picture, you will hate eve, as many do.

For what its worth to the OP, all these know it alls did the exact same thing 7 years ago. Mining for the first few weeks is a choice you made.
You show me a killmail and I will refund you twice what you lost in a week. If you enjoy the game, if you are simply a nooblet who is frustrated. Don't stop mining if that's what you enjoy. Just pay attention to whats on the grid.
I don't present myself well on the forums but the fact is, I don't hate this game, I don't hate CCP. I'm just a burned out, old Vet who lost his spark. If you still have yours, give it another go. |

Nonsense.
They keep the weak, lazy, and stupid from quitting and that's bad for Eve, not good. I welcome seeing them being weeded out as quickly as possible. If anything, I wish CCP make the learning curve and barrier to entry even higher. Otherwise people need to quit complaining about how many stupid players we have now, and how dumbed down/easy Eve has become.

Oh it's okay I help newbs all the time, there are quiet a few that know me in the help channel and even once had an ISD suggest i join once when i had a brand new trial account alt helping in rookie chat. I'm a great resource for EVE knowledge and I'm the self proclaimed EVE encyclopedia. Even tho I know i don't know EVERYTHING about EVE, the stuff I do know is enough that no one has ever questioned my little title and even playfully refer to me with it. I seem to be a natural teacher, or so I've been told, having this ability to restructure concepts into ways people can understand they previously couldn't before.
The problem here is that like any school teacher I'll make sure to give the more help and attention to the ones that really want to learn and ask the relevant questions.
In this case the OP is a "dropout" and I enjoy slapping him around a bit
