Really, 100 leave and 10 join. Post me some official stats, and we'll discuss, mkay?
And I laugh at all those who think that this will deter new subscribers. Newsflash, micro transactions have been in games for a long time. From $2 DLC for horse armour, to facebook games, to a large number of online games, everyone has seen it, isn't the end of the world, etc. You want a new gun in battlefield heroes? Pay for it. You want more gold in WoW, pay for it. You want to play a bit more of your favourite game? Download that DLC and pay for it? You want new skins on your characters? Pay for it. You what that new map pack? Pay for it.
Nothing new here folks.
Notice that the rest of the world don't care. Notice that this has already been implemented to the rest of the world. If you don't like it, move on, no one is telling you to stay. CCP isn't pointing a gun saying stay.
With CoD being pointed out, look at this. People were laughing and threatening when Activision sold their first map pack for $15. People still bought it. BY THE MILLIONS. Those who left, well, they already got all they could outta you, NEXT!

Mork, business is a constant negotiation with a customer base. Perhaps by definition.
Business is about new customers. Period.
EXPANDING business is about new customers. I'm in a sales business at the moment. About 60% of our customers are RETURN customers. Customers who were happy and came back. Then they told their friends. That's about another 15%. The other 25% is casual business, people who heard about us somehow and came in.
Business is growing steadily, and we keep customers COMING BACK.
If you regularly **** off your repeat customers, who are a steady stream of revenue, then you're ****ed. They're not going to recommend their friends go either. Then suppose that the ****ed off customers go and write reviews based on your service, and they see that you suck for one reason or another. They're going to go somewhere else.
Consider Eve: Who are the majority of customers at Eve? Repeats, right? People who came, saw the game, liked the game, and decided to stay. They tell their friends. They write reviews in other forums. So, when you **** off a very vocal portion of players...
Oh forget it, no matter what rational arguments are presented to you, you're just going to dance around in circles.

No that makes sense and im one of the rare people who dont mind admitting to being wrong cuz I have nothing to lose on the internet. Anyways part of your point is right but when a business plateaus its time for something new and its always gonna ruffle some nerd feathers.

Edited by: BlkQueen on 01/07/2011 00:28:25 Who was it? Daedalus I think, collected a bunch of data on "Player life Cycles" in MMOs. He found after conducting surveys that most players reach a "burnout" phase in an mmo eventually. When that happens they start playing on a far more casual basis. So if this is so, attracting new customers would always be something MMO developers want to do.

Awww you sad dim witted simpleton...some concepts are realy, realy tough to grasp right? EVE has a forced subscription, show me one game with a forced subscription that also uses P2W...any game that is alive and doing well i mean.
Actually the rest of the world do care, go look at any online gamer site...EVE has taken a severe pounding, the one at Massively is particular scathing and is also a bloody good read...maybe if its to tough you can get mommy to help you with the big words...mkay?

Absolutely, new players are the goal, but so is keeping old ones. I expect a lot of folks are like me in that I get burnout, quit playing, but keep paying to get the SPs to have more fun with when I do go through a stretch of being active.

Im not butthurt at all about it. I liked it. It worried me for a sec that this was the entire playerbase and that kind of sucked but then I remembered it had to be just butthurt diehards who have played for years. It gave me and my new Eve player friends something to laugh about so its all good.

Ad hominem attacks? You can't utilize some brain cells to formulate and argument or backup your stats? How pathetic. You claim this, yet you can't provide it.
Forced subscription and P2W? WoW. You can buy gold to do whatever (P2W), and you have forced subscription. Now where's my cookie?
Online gamer site? People actually read those? Really. You stuck in a time flux, like 2001?
If you don't like it, get out. Or do you need to cry to mommy and tell her the big evil CCP company is going to take your stuff away?

We're not protesting because we want CCP to have fewer subscribers. We're protesting a specific method they're using to get more money on the assumption that they won't get new subscribers.
If they actually get more subscribers because of the protests, that will alleviate the financial pressure making them act like this.
So one of two things will come of all this rage.
1. The word will spread that EVE, a game which takes years to fully entrench yourself in, is dying and therefore not worth getting involved in. CCP will back down on its changes so that the game will not die, the word will stop spreading, and their cash cow will stay alive.
2. The word will spread that EVE has a really amazing engaged community, people will buy subs to see what all the fuss is about, and CCP will make more money because of the new subs. The financial pressure will lighten and CCP will return to its roots. Most of the CCP devs have a dream for this game, so I anticipate that when financial pressure lightens up, they'll start working on improving their worlds again, instead of milking them.
I don't actually care which of these come to pass.
(I'd say "3. nobody notices" but the press releases have already drawn attention all over the place, so that's out.)

The only thing that will get out is the fact that you shouldn't visit the forums unless you are here to troll, or for a quick laugh. The forums really are the cesspool of the game. I'm here for the lulz.
