Despite all the cr4p floating around at the moment, EVE is still an awesome game. As a player with unbroken subscription on my main since May 2003, it has become an important part of my life. True, I don't live and breathe it like I used to, but it remains a key part of my R&R and I log in almost daily.
I for one will not be emo-rage-quitting over the current issues, though it hugely saddens me that CCP have moved their focus on from developing EVE as a product, and over-focusing on developing new 'me-too' stuff that doesn't interest me in the slightest. I have severe reservations over pay-to-win and its impact on the game, and am really pleased that CCP have been given a wake-up call over their current maldirection. I think they have over reached themselves with ambition and seriously under-estimated the success they have achieved with player immersion in their existing product, EVE. EVE is still far too good a product to not invest in any more, it has plenty of mileage left yet and the potential to become a long-running classic, especially if it is routinely and properly serviced.
Think of me as a football supporter who continues to support their team through the lean times as well as the glory years, watching managers come and go, but standing on the terraces in the middle of winter in the wind and rain, as well as the trips to Wembley.
I hope there's enough of us still going to be around to see this thing through to the right outcome.

If I'm not having fun playing a game, I won't play it anymore. I still have fun playing eve.

I'm football fan too but I don't like that it's turned into a rugby game. Not what I paid my season ticket for, those players and agents are getting really hungry for money too.

Awesome is the act of birth. Awesome is the phenomena of the sun. Awesome is the incredibly HUGENESS of space. People can't do awesome things. They, we, just don't have the reach. The game isn't awesome...unless you're the sort of person who finds him/herself staring at blinking lights with your mouth agape.
It's a good game. No doubt. But, will it stand the test of time? Not likely. Chess? 400 years and counting. EVE? 8 years, then a corporate fizzle.

Edited by: Dallenn on 02/07/2011 14:43:08 Eve is definitely awesome, unique. There have been some games for PC that have been almost as good, but not quite. And anyway, diversity is good.

It could be that CCP is getting overconfident - developing not just one but two big titles in addition to their one really succesful product. Each of them is a big undertaking and success is never guaranteed, which brings risk to the company.
On the second point I totally agree. Right now it looks like the development of the last few years hasn't addressed core PvP concerns because CCP's focus has drifted a bit to other things. CCP has to step up their efforts and keep the game evolving, serving us old players as well as the new. Eve is a very good cash cow, and CCP should look forward to Eve carrying them through any hard times, not just this year but possibly for a decade to come. Eve has been just such a huge success that it's very hard to repeat, and CCP should never think about throwing away what they have fought so hard to achieve.
