There's a free trial, and the download is small.
Why don't you try it and find out?

3 minutes after I did log in to test the game I had a convo by a GM to say hello and welcome, to see if I needed help for anything and he did send me the link to an Eve<>Perpetuum lexicon... :)

I'm not an expert, but I have played it for about a week on/off.
I'm a miner in Eve, I love it. I can't mine in Perpetuum, I find it hideously boring. Then again, mining straight away in Eve was also hideously boring. So grain of salt.
The WASD controls make it feel like you're doing more than Eve, the graphics aren't as pretty (I had to drop mine to lowest, I have crashing issues. I've over heard one other player who has this issue, so it probably won't affect you). The fighting is pretty good, although confusing at first as you need to set a primary target (R).
I don't believe there is any tracking in the game. And if you miss, you reaaaaaally miss, missiles will fly off into the sky.
It's basically Eve on a planet with Mechs, unfortunately I don't see as many tactics that you could use in Perpetuum, but definitely give it a shot, it's only $10 and your remaining trial time gets added to your 30 day subscription.

Is good. There's a biggish EVE ex-pat community there too, so you won't be alone.

Reminds me of very young, back in 03 EVE. However I think EVE was father along. It's small so the community is still tight knit. But I don't really like it. I like EVE so the things it does that remind you of EVE you will like(mostly because of familiarity). So imo it's ok. Lots of stuff could be done to make it better. Not sure if they have the manpower or resources to do so.

Oh, keep in mind that you can't see player buy/sell orders until you sub.
The markets aren't really formed yet anyway, but it's really painful trying to buy ammo on a trial account :P

It has a 14 day trial, so just try it out.
It has its pro and cons. It¦s pretty nice, follows the same principles and after playing EVE it¦s incredible how helpful DEVs and GMs are. The most profitable activity is running courier contacts between 3 bases and doing this is very dull. Ratting can be frustrating since the spawns are overcamped, ammo is expensive and locking times can be a little excessive. (You feel like a titan locking a pod and you are afraid that the rat dies of old age until you can start shooting at it.) But well, it¦s always hard to switch from an old and polished game to one which just left beta. It should get better over time.

Seriously?
Wow... I guess that will be lost once the population is higher but still that's pretty good customer care.

I personally like it. When you do get ingame, join the EVE channel, that's where all the bittervets hang out. If you decide to subscribe, feel free to join the NeX. We're all ex-EVE players, and also the biggest corp in the game.

Apparently, I came along "after the Gold Rush." I got my character made. That was pretty interesting, but the eyebrows leave much to be desired! Oh, and alas, when it came time to actually enter the world, crash!
They have a nifty notepad thing to pass comments on the crash, which I really got tired of seeing. SO. I never got to actually see the game.
This is understandable as the sudden influx of players, mostly EVE refugees, has caught them by surprise. I imagine they're a bit bewildered, and in a difficult spot. Should they rush out and buy upgraded hardware to handle the crowd, or is this EVE bunch just having a tantrum that will cool after a while and leave them with a huge hardware bill for which the actual player base can't compensate. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes.
Practically speaking though, it would seem prudent to put their best foot forward while they have a captive crowd. Now's the time to sink the hook. It'll be interesting to see how they handle the situation. It has to have a bit of "looking into the abyss" to it.

Perpetuum is good enough I subbed.
Its not as polished as eve, no doubt about that but at the same time, you can see the potential. Like eve was many years ago id guess.
The combat system is both better and worse than eve, no tracking but los matters and you can hide behind solid obstacles.
The skill system is much better than eves. You gain skillpoints constantly, then spend them as you want to upgrade/purchase a new skill. So you can modify your character as you need it rather than planning out tortuous skill plans and your never losing training because you forgot to set your queue.
Ammo IS a nightmare until you sub, no doubt about that but its cheap (9 euros/month)
I like the fact this is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new game with a lot of potential. That and being able to go **** YOU to ccp :)

Interesting take on things and I imagine it's a hard business decision to make, it could easily go either way. The longer CCP take to issue a new statement and what that statement involves WILL ultimately determine Perpetuum Onlines decision.

They've said repeatedly that the servers are only using around 3% capacity, they had a bug in their code, which is now fixed.

I think its a great game, it is like an early unrefined eve. It is nice to get in on the ground floor of a game too. The controls take some getting used to, just as it took us all a while here to learn eve's shortcuts.
I did not play Perp long, I only have limited time these days and I have so much more financial and emotional investment into This game so I decided not to renew after my 3rd month there. Very soon however, you all can convo King Aires and Prince Deimos in Perp and muthafuk me or something

Just after I finished the tutorial arcs in Eve this week, I had a convo by a GM to answer any questions regarding my skill plans, career interests, ship fittings, missions etc, followed by an evemail with links to various wiki sections for new players, and a message to send him an eve-mail if I had any questions regarding Eve, followed by 3 (so far) emails from CCP regarding New Player stuff, info on PvE careers, PvP careers, Ship fittings, skill training etc.
*shrugs* If anyone had read the memo (no, not _that_ one ) they would have known that Incarna so far is all about the new players, not the grumpy old vets like us ^^

Its completely stupid to make multiple games. Look at Valve, they sure are struggling... Oh

Thinking about this MMO, too. EVE's days may be numbered. Could be an exaggeration, but it doesn't hurt to start looking for/at alternatives.

Tastes are different so can't say if you'll like it. If you're obsessed with graphics then probably not but if you don't care about graphics (ie. play EVE on maxed out zoom with all effects etc. off) then it's a fun game.
I made myself two accounts and am having much fun so far.

Checked it out. It's basically an Eve clone where spaceships are replaced by good looking but crappily animated robots.
I'd see no point in playing this. Been there done that, basically. But maybe you like so check it out the client is pretty small. Took me 20 minutes to make an account and start playing.
