The vampire and gothic fad has been around for years. It's not just the TV shows and movies they make about it that keep the craze going; there are actually large groups of people that live their lives around it. I've seen people walking down the streets wearing pieces of armor, and wearing trench coats and leather pants and jackets.
There is even a store that's been in business for years selling the stuff, in a mall that has rather high leases on space. Actually 3 stores there, but 2 of them sell weapons for the most part, and one also sells military gear. There is no reason to believe that it is going to dry up and blow away, and for whatever reason, they have more money to spend on this stuff than I have to spend on more important things.
I'm not 100% sure that will translate well to a PC game, but there is no doubt it is popular. Most of them are pen and paper players I think, as well as role players that never quite leave character. Interesting, but odd too.

Thats as silly as saying 10 years ago that space stuff is only popular because of Star Wars movies.
This gothic vampire crap has been here for years and isnt going away. The flavor may change slightly but its basically the same.

we're talking market share, not longevity. while space sci-fy may not be entirely due to Star Wars, you can bet the farm that the movies caused a jump in related arts like fan-fiction and spin offs, which die off pretty quickly (not completely die, but die in term of marketability to a large segment)
same with the vampire/occult thing, sure its been around forever, but nobody got rich off of it until twilight and all I'm saying is that iron is cooling off pretty quickly and the vampire fan population will crawl back into their holes and it will be back to the silly closeted thing it once was.
however that said I fail altogether for not realizing that WoD is an existing product (how could I have missed that one?... well easy, I don't play that crap)
I think you are being intentionally naive.
"Twilight" and "Tru Blood" are the most recent manifestations but I think if you look at my links youll see that there has been money behind this for a long time because the fan base for gothic vampires is huge and not new. Its way beyond emo" and WOD isnt particularly emo even.
Wherever you went - Here you are.

This. All people like Stephanie Meyer did was bring women between the ages of 12---45 into a medium formerly dominated by nerds and emo kids.

The World of Darkness (and associated Vampire the Masquerade) properties have been popular for a good deal longer than the current Twilight Vampire fad, given that CCPs upcoming MMO uses that venerable White Wolf property, I have no doubt that many role playing fans will enjoy the setting.
The remaining Twilight fangirls and -boys may arrive along with them, but it is those fans of the actual setting (and my guess is there are plenty of those) who will shape the game for years to come. In that respect WoD has plenty of potential, much like EVE had back when it launched.

Seriously, Blade is worse then any emo-vamp, he is a Mary Sue vampire who gets all the strength but none of the weaknesses (not vulnerable to sunlight and not forced to kill people and drink their blood).
Personally I will look forward to the game. The twilight-fangirls will probably choose a Toreador but then they will get shocked and horrified when they learn there is nothing romantic in World of Darkness.

I used to play a vampire MOO back in the 90s, it ran out of some UK university net and did have a fair amount of players.
I guess if you lump em all together there is a good number of the emos goths and vampire gurls out there, guess I never considered marketing to them as a group.
so would some douche who dresses up in black robes and buys gothic swag on ebay or the local swap meet, pay to do the same thing virtually?
and it so, could you build a game directed at Juggilos?

Vampires are all about the great Count Dracula. Castlevania is a vampire game done right.
Yes Castlevania and Draacula are about vampires. twilight is about undead emo. Never mix these things for he sake of Richter Belmont.
