ya I dont think CCP has the reaction to FOTM thing down good enough to get that game out before the general public moves along to something new.

but its only mainstream because of the twilight movies, and that has almost run its course. sure there will always be emo kids wanting to play dress up, but honestly you would have a bigger playerbase if you developed a math mmo

Mmmmh nah not really.
People are into the whole Vampire thing since 20+ years, yeah. But that "ghey emo vampire that sparkles" thing only started with Twighlight. One can just hope it goes away as quickly as all other teengirl fads.

Sorry, but people have been fascinated with vampires waaaaaaay longer than the recent twilight boom. And it's not about to die out any time soon.

It does make you gay. But that's cool. My city is drowning in gays right now so you're nothing out of the ordinary, to me at least

It's quite simple really. 1) Vampires are only a tiny part of the WoD universe, there's plenty of cool stuff in there entirely untarnished by the emo vampire fad. 2) CCP bought White Wolf (Publisher of WoD) long before Twilight came out, so it's really about them wanting to turn a cool RP world into an online game, not about cashing in on angsty emo teenagers. 3) WoD, as some have already said, is one of the most popular P&P-Roleplaying settings/systems and has a huge live-RP following on top of that. 4) If you are looking for sparkly teen vampires lamenting American high-school style drama, World of Darkness is not for you.
TL;DR: Nah.

Thats as silly as saying 10 years ago that space stuff is only popular because of Star Wars movies.
This gothic vampire crap has been here for years and isnt going away. The flavor may change slightly but its basically the same.

we're talking market share, not longevity. while space sci-fy may not be entirely due to Star Wars, you can bet the farm that the movies caused a jump in related arts like fan-fiction and spin offs, which die off pretty quickly (not completely die, but die in term of marketability to a large segment)
same with the vampire/occult thing, sure its been around forever, but nobody got rich off of it until twilight and all I'm saying is that iron is cooling off pretty quickly and the vampire fan population will crawl back into their holes and it will be back to the silly closeted thing it once was.
however that said I fail altogether for not realizing that WoD is an existing product (how could I have missed that one?... well easy, I don't play that crap)

Twilight and emo vampires is lame and a disgrace.
Vampires are all about the great Count Dracula. Castlevania is a vampire game done right.

You never really played Vampire: The Masquerade, did you? Or read anything about it before opening your mouth for that matter?
It was first released 20 years ago and the world has been expanded upon quite a bit. Spawned a tv series, computer games and was the the only 'real' alternative to the Bram Stoker vampire mythos for 3-4 years (Interview with a Vampire movie released in '94-'95).
You could play an emo-vamp if you wanted but you'd last one session and then be gobbled up by the actual vamps.
Think Cyberpunk universe with bloodmagic and creatures out of nightmares and you get close to what it is. Had some of my most enjoyable P&P (ya, rly! Pen and mother****ing Paper!) experiences in that world.
All CCP has to do is show their middle finger at the emo-vamp fans (they are practising on emo-Eve fans) and they will have a sleeper hit on their hands. Gritty RPGs may not sell in huge numbers, but they have long lifespans and rabid followers.

The Twilight stuff was mostly a fad and that part IS most part dead apart from small corners of the internet.
The "real" vampire stuff has been going for ever and has a fairly large (to my knowledge) underground community eagerly awaiting WoD's release.

yeah, "lets cash in on this vampire craze" wasn't a good idea, ccp took over a week and spent a ton of money to release a sentence of "no plans for non-vanity items" which should have taken about 5 minutes and cost nothing

It's really not that buggy, tbh. I played it straight-through a few months ago, and it was remarkably unbuggy, outdated game mechanics aside. Reworking the FOV to something viewable does wonders, for starters.
