Originally by: Tranitikas This is an alt, I just don't feel like igniting a **** storm by using my main. If you know who I am feel free to expose me, but I just wanted an honest attempt at discussion. Also, inb4 "your isk. send me it."
I'm sure I'm definitely not anywhere near the richest players in the game, but at over 100 billion ISK I think it's fair to say I have more ISK than the average player. I have jump freighters, motherships (supercarriers, bleh), etc (no titan, used to fly one though) and more officer mods than I know of. I play the game for pvp, but I have obviously done alright using the markets as well. Overall though, I only pvp and play Eve to have fun with friends and figure out how to smash entire 0.0 or low sec regions. It's great, and all in all I'm surprised I ended up well off considering I never played exclusively to make $, but perhaps I just managed what I had well to make it grow. Anyway.
I just remember my early days of Eve and starting off pvping in low sec, remembering using Myrmidon's with 5 Ogre I's and owning battleships, but barely being able to afford another each time I died. I think that time was the addictive and fun time in Eve, when I was barely scraping by, having occasional windfalls of ISK. It was just awesome.
Now it's much more about the social and tactical side of the game, obviously. There is no need or "desire" for me to scoop loot or do any action in game for ISK. I could have a lot more ISK, sure, but there is no need considering I have near the same amount in items as I do liquid ISK. I have no interest in hoarding virtual money. Losses don't count feel like they much either, which is why I now tend to fit ships as expensive as possible and often do stupid things, much to the liking of newer less experienced players catching me solo and drunk.
Basically, I still like Eve but my enjoyment of the game has declined over the years, especially now that I don't have a "hunger" for the "next big thing" or whatever you might call it. Tactics and socializing are still my favorite things in the game, but the lack of caring about finances/items I think may detract from my experience a bit. This said, I wouldn't want to restart and make all my internet spaceship monies all over again, as needless to say, it can also be a TON of fun playing with exorbitant amounts of ISK.
All in all, Eve is great, but I guess I'm just asking, what do you play for and how does ISK factor into that? Just an attempt at a normal discussion thread amidst all the drama. Cheers
Originally by: Gratuitous I actually agree 100%. Like you, I have somehow managed to make very large sums of isk with margial work, and it has definatly led to a declined amount of interest in the game. The human experience in life involves constant struggle. This struggle is what defines our personality and character. Applies in all aspecs of life, in game and out.
But, having said all that doesnt meen that I will be buying any $1000 jeans anytime soon, not that there is anything wrong with it, lol
You could always teach new people how to make money. Those of us who have been playing for years and never even had a billion at one time... Like me...
