Just a heads up I believe our accounts have been compromised. We had a corp mate get his account hack and stolen. He only uses evemon, eft, and battlclcinic. We check on his last login and it was when he was at work. They had his account for about 4-5 hours. They change his password and email. He could not login on webiste or ingame. I would highly recomment everyone change their passwords. Eve did have a security breach two weeks ago. A petition has been filed under a alt he had and now his accounts are frozen. But we believe there was a serious security breach at CCP for this info to be leaked. CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS IMMEDIATELY.

He logged on at work? How do you know it wasn't just the network admin at his job? I know some jobs have all kinds of security measures and what-not, they even record everything you type. And if you're reading this, you've fallen into a signature trap. You owe me 1m ISK. |

Confirming "password" is a bad password to use.
Nothing to see here, move along. Also? I just tricked you into reading my signature. |

If there was any evidence that your personal information was compromised we would inform you so you could take the proper precautions. However I'm not suggesting don't update your passwords as it is a good practice to change them now and again. Plus keep your virus/spyware protection up to date.
Good luck to your friend and good thing they filed a petition so the GMs can recover the account.

You mean he more likely been to a website that was bad? If CCP think they had been hacked they would of got people to change passwords asap etc. RMT site or bad torrent or bad **** site many thing could of got him.
Maybe he should be more careful what he does with his PC. ------------------------------------

After the DDOS attack, first thing I did as some as CCP admins got their act together and got their servers back in business. Standard practice after any successful attack( Script kiddies, or not?).
Protect yourself as if all your accounts have been compromised, or will be compromised. It's a wildfire out here.

You guys are misunderstanding me. He does not go on any bs sites. Someone else log into his account when he was working. He only plays from his residence. No one has his pw except for CCP. He does not bot or do any of that crap. He logs on pvp plex once in a while and that is it. They only sites he visits is evemon, eft, and bc that is it.

Everyone uses the internet just for those. Bet he was cracking a cheeky one out over some new site he stumbled on. Everyone does it.

So, ONE of your corpmates gets 'hacked' and you think the entire community has been compromised? LOL

How do you KNOW this? By his word? This is the oldest (and worst) of this kind of excuse. More likely reasons are listed below, in no particular order: 1. YOU are the 'corpmate' and you need cover, ASAP. 2. Your corpmate did, indeed, follow a bad link, somewhere, somehow. These bad links could include many sites that he really, REALLY doesn't want to admit to (macro sites, RMT site, good old fashioned ****, etc.), so his denial really means very little. 3. Your corpmate used a poor password that was simply guessed or brute-forced. 4. Your corpmate gave his password to someone else so that the someone else could do something for him when he could not, and that someone (and I'm betting it's YOU) stole his crap and now needs to get a story out to the forums - as if we can do anything about it - as cover. This is my personal favorite, theft covered by an "OMG, haxorz!!!!!" The reason I go with this one is that it is YOU bringing this story to the forums instead of the "corpmate", who already has an alt (by your own admission) and would have been, at least in this one perspective, more believable.
Fact is, this sort of thing happens all too often, and the excuses are re-tried all too often as well, for it to be as you have presented in your original story.

message here is
have a good anti virus and firewall have a different password and log in for each website, eg joeblogsEVE or joeblogsWOW or whatever change password often
i have been playing eve since begining of 2005 never been hacked, i have had virus's and keyloggers, i use eft evemon and battleclinic.
People just need to learn that using pirated versions of windows without windows update, and not having a firewall and antivirus will get u burned
Apparently an unprotected and unpatched Windows XP system with Service Pack 1 lasted only 4 minutes on the Internet before it was compromised
oh and the obvious don't share your password

Much more likely his machine is compromised rather than ccp.
They may be serial incompetents regarding messaging, truthfulness and transparency, but they are pretty decent regarding security.
Provide the correct details to verify his ownership of the account, wait forever and a day for customer support, then get the account back with changed passwords.
Before then though, i'd suggest a format and reinstall of his machine, or some serious anti-malware scanning. |

The password you use on third party related sites should not be your EVE password.

Maybe he answered one of those phishing scams that started circulating last week or he was the victim of a keylogger.
Evemon, EFT, & Battleclinic do not use your online account information, only the API key.
You must not have read the details following the lulzsec attack. It was a DDoS attack with no compromise of the system.

I think the giveaway here was when the op suggested the account was hacked because the owner had "a good some of money"
I would suggest the OP return the money he stole from his corpmate
then ccp should ban the lot of them for sharing account info

This happens when you use the same password for everything.
You sign up for someone's Forums, and your password is now in the hands of anyone who has access to that web server.
There have been many cases where a site gets compromised and its passwords stolen. The hackers will then try these passwords out in various videogames and see what they've 'won'.
Do not use the same password more then once. Come up with gibberish passwords that are pronounceable... for example: "GrolliEd0rfy". Typing that a few times would be fairly easy to remember, rather then random letters/numbers, and still harder to crack then real words.
