So we know there is a saparate Chinese server with about 5k online. The only reason of its existence is that due to the political censorship of PRC government, CCP is not allowed to release Chinese language client connecting to Tranquility. Chinese players are sick of being isolated from the universe too but most of them are without the language ability of playing a SF MMO in English.
In fact, there exists a solution. You can release Chinese client of Tranquility without violating the PRC law. There is a democracy region besides PRC called Taiwan without any mother****ing political censorship and people there speak identical Chinese language. There was a time when players of PRC cannot play the latest version of WOW(due to the same political reason), millions of them literally flooded the Taiwan server. Guess what will happen if you release Chinese client of Tranquility "for Taiwan"?
Of course, you may also move your subsidiary in Shanghai to Taiwan to do the translate job if you like, maybe with its user data too, since I guess it is your property.

That is incorrect. There are many Chinese languages, and though they may seem the same or similar to a Westerner, they can be very different. The main language in Taiwan is derived from a Southern China language, but decades of near-complete isolation of the island (from China) has led to it having evolved on its own. The second language is nominally Mandarin, but for Taiwanese Mandarin the same goes as for the other language - it has changed from the mainland Mandarin such that is quite different.

Well, the spoken language is exactly identical. The written language had evoloved separately for some decades, but an educated Chinese can read both naturally without any training. This is already proved by what happened in WOW. and BTW Taiwan along has a decent population and many SF fans there.

As long as CCP close the chinse server, this will be a good idea.Otherwise, most chinese players don't have the intention to join TQ. Language is a problem, but not the most important one.

Don't forget politics CCP h/f has a studio in Shanghai and the Chinese Communist Party (also CCP lol) would not take kindly to CCP h/f doing business in the Chinese republic on Taiwan.

The OP is right.
PRC WoW failed so badly because of censoring issues. Majority of the players flocked to TW servers to play WoW. Since PRC and Taiwan are so close, the lag is not apparent, and life with WoW continues.

If anything, spoken language isnĘt identical. Similar, but still different in many ways. Try putting a Beijing speaking Mandarin with a Taiwanese speaking Mandarin. North and South China have differences in speech as well. There are also traditional and simplified characters, some are the same, but most of them are written differently. China uses simplified but most know enough of traditional characters to get by. Hong Kong and Taiwan use and teach traditional characters. I can go oną
You know nothing. DonĘt bother trying.

I honestly don't understand how letting chinese connect to TQ would bring in 1,000,000 bots when clearly there's nothing stopping them connecting as it is. At most, it would merely make it more difficult for CCP to filter out the botters.
Anyway, inb4 casual racism where people seem to think that China is thailand and not the major economic power in the world at the moment.
Just sayin'.

If EVE doesn't country block China already, it should. China doesn't respect intellectual property, so they invent nothing. Everyone steals from everyone else. They are cheap manufactoring only and will remain that way. Cultures do not change. They have stayed the same for 1000s of years.
Those cities you see in China were designed by, and built by EU companies. Sure China supplied the low skill manual labor. Just like the West runs the oil fields in the Midle East, so it does in China.
I guess you have to manage droids for a living to understand. None of them can think for themselves and have to be managed hourly (no kidding).
Oh, my best friend is Chinese. But, he grew up in America. He is an American. Culture has nothing to do with race.

Well, I'm not an American or a 'liberal'. But I'd have to say that I've heard the 'not thinking for yourself' thing applied to America and it's education system.
I'm not going to have a political debate, I'm just pointing out that both systems have their flaws and benefits and arguments usually sound very familiar on both ends.
But China is still the #1 economic power at the moment, so you kind of have to give them credit where it's due and their culture is quite rich, so... I don't know. :P

Edited by: Eleena Wolf on 04/07/2011 15:55:28 for those who dont know about the Serenity server,
the t2 market never really took off,
majority of 0.0 is a napfest, forming 2-3 main superpowers in null.
pirates are few and far between, there is only one known pirate alliance, which is RAC.
t1 rr battleship gangs are still the preferred method for fleet fighting.
contrary to popular believe there are in fact supercapital/capital fleets.
0.0 is actually cheaper than jita.
westerners are already playing on the serenity server, pandemic legion, rooks and kings, failheapchallenge, elements from russian bloc (possibly drf)
the chinese moderators dont have a problem with western subscribers, provided they dont break the censorship laws, mostly no talking about the govt or use of any words that could be seen as anti govt. (lmao not allowed because of mao)
for more information i suggest kugu or failheap challenge null |

Well as I can somewhat foresee that people from liberate country are good at rerailing casual idea dicussions to become about racism and politic because they just know so much, I don't judge. I was just saying that if CCP wants to do it, there is a way. I thought there was a "one universe" stuff or so, and it does bring money they need.
Anyway, delighted to see so many who knows Chinese culture and language better than a native. We are more than glad to serve the Amarr master.

This thread needs to be locked, an some people sent back to school. Why is it people who live outside the fishbowl know what it is like inside the fishbowl? They don't, they can't comprehend what it would be like unless they have lived there an experienced things first hand. Think all you want that you know wtf your talking about, chances are your wrong, an that makes you look stupid an ignorant. How can we be right, if everyone is wrong? This is why issues arise, people assume way too much. People jump to conclusions, an read/hear what they want to, never reading an seeing the whole picture.
Stop pointing fingers at other peoples countries, chances are, the one you live in, is as flawed as all the rest. Open up a few history books, don't just read the one your country likes to print. The sooner people see past the BS the world will be a better place. An remember one more thing, the old teach the young, an the old will pass their venom on to the young, do yourself a favor, think for yourself, an don't be a sheep.
Not that any of this matters, humanity can't help itself. The trolls prove that everytime they have something to say.

I think that 1 in every 100 wormholes should send you to the Chinese server with very limited mass, can't dock, no local, throw some fluff in about multiverses and other dimensions.

Dangerous path to take, that would be like sharding eve into two clusters and could open up more 'shards' where empires have explored other parts of the galaxy / other galaxies.
So... yeah... one universe... expand where necessary but keep it together, so I would oppose that idea.

As to the "Chinese" language, it should be considered a language group. Based on the percentage of words that are the same; English, German, Swedish, Norweigen, and Icelandic would be "one" language. Another Example would be French, Portuguese, Spanish, Romanian, Italian and Latin would all be "one" Language.
I worked for a Chinese Expat, who would have to translate from one spoken Chinese language to another.
Chinese does have a unified writing system until Mao. Mao simplified they systems to increase literacy. A person who can read Traditional Chinese characters can read Simplified Chinese. A person who can only read simplified Chinese will have difficulty reading traditional writing.
