Well if it's written on the internet then I guess it must be true. I can't believe CCP missed the boat now that this thing has been written on the internet. Maybe I should write something on the internet about Dust being optimised for PS5. PS4 is so mainstream.

Edited by: Prince Kobol on 04/07/2011 12:55:41 lol 2012.. wishful thinking.. Its the internet, don't believe everything you read :)
Both Microsoft and Sony have stated a number of times that they see the xbox360 and PS3 having a 10 year life cycle so you more talking 2015/2016 before you see new consoles from either of them.
Another thing you have to remember is that both companies will have signed agreements with game developers on when they plan to introduce a new console to prevent them spending millions of dollars developing on a game only to find that it is obsolete before it is even release because they have introduced a new console.

BOTH sony and M$ have said that so ppl still go out and buy the current gen. The next one is just behind the corned, as this one is bleeding on its legs now, Battlefield 3 and other actually good looking games the current consoles simply cannot run is what will send them down the slope next year. That new hardware is comming and its comming fast. And DUST is a thing of the past.

hahahaha.. One of the funniest things I have read in a long time :)
Of course they are, that's why halo 4 is due out in 2012 on the XBOX360 along with BioShock Infinite, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Hitman: Absolution, Far Cry 3 and many other big titles on both consoles.
Also on top that Sony, Microsoft and a number of game developers have all stated that they have still not pushed the boundaries on what the consoles can do.
As for they are saying that so ppl go out and buyt he current consoles, is that why they usually announce and demo new hardware at least a YEAR before they go on sale at places like E3?
oh thats right, your a dumb ass :)

Actually, If you pay attention to E3 at all, Sony did confirm PS4 was coming next year. Though I don't believe they had a demo, more just one of those "Yes it's being worked on" talks.

LMFAO everyone knows that microsoft plans to release before ps4, and are expected to announce in early 2012 with a mid 2013 launch, the same could be expected from sony... things like game consoles launch normally around a year before there released, guess what no PS4 or or XboxNext announced yet, and not till 2012

But anyway, Play station has always had backwards compatibility. If it works on PS3, it'll work on a PS4.
Edit: Also, I'm sure many people have played during the xbox and xbox 360 transition, the PS1 -> PS2 -> PS3 transition, etc.
The graphical difference is usually un-noticable as game developers are usually not taking full advantage of the hardware. It usually takes a year or two for the old console to become obsolete.
So, yeah... I don't know why you're worrying. Graphics take years to become noticably bad compared to their successors.

1 when PS3 was launched ppl knew 2 years in advance thanks to comercials etc
2 SONY just recently in a reply to nintendo WII II that they would not release a new console made promise to the number of developers that invest fortunes in being able to do game for the current console
3 PS3 is very far from being a obsolete console, games made today dont use the full potential, games that have bad preformance are simply... BAD
4 DUST for PS3 is because CCP cannot support the infrastructue needed to have another MMO game out, and by infrastructure i mean the PSN that SONY "gives" CCP by making DUST PS3 exclusive
etc and so on

"featuring body movement-based control like Kinect" ?
Nope, not at all. Sony have invested a lot into Move, and as it seems Move is far more versatile than Kinect (at least from the initial offerings) I seriously doubt that this is the case.
My guess is that the Digitimes....I'd hardly call two paragraphs an article, but at any rate; My guess this is just the first of several idle speculation we have to endure for the next few years. We saw the same about a year before the PS3 were even announced, same with the Xbox if I recall. These sources are like psychics, they make blind guesses, and claim "insight" if they should hit anywhere near the actual truth. Near being one tiny little aspect being just half right, such as the name of the console...;)
As for the timing, the speculation start now, as the PS3 will be 5 years old soon, and that seems to be the half way mark for their consoles' 10 year life cycle. But the PS2 lasted a little longer than 10 years, and it was 6 years between the PS2 and PS3 release. I'd say ultimo 2013 for the PS4, and probably an attempt at Xmas 2012 for MS, whose console is starting to show it's age. As in the Xbox 2011 releases aren't all that much better looking than the 2010 releases.
I have no doubt both Sony and MS have their next gen consoles in the works, but with the economical market as it is at the moment, I doubt they are ready to try to push another $500 console on us just yet. Their current generation still have plenty of power left to offer. Though I suspect MS will be out with their next gen a little sooner than Sony will. If either have any brains, they'll build the next generation on the current, just more power, but largely the same interface and technology, I doubt either will be willing to sink a few billion into developing brand new tech, only to have their games developers spend the next 5 years getting a handle on it, as were pretty much the case for the PS3.

Neither the PS4 nor the Xbox720 are coming next year, or the year after that. The earliest release will be in 2014.
Sony at this point hasn't even started proper development yet. MS has started, but wants to extend the life of the 360 a lot more since it's become ridiculously profitable.
The PS3 only just started making proper profit for Sony's gaming division and the 360 is now at a point where MS can swim in the money because it costs 2 cents to make. Neither company wants to throw away that revenue stream right now given the costs of a new console and some uncertainty over the market (which is only relevant for marketing, but since they're the ones calling the shots...).
Sony has the Vita coming early 2012 - They're not going to compete with their own console. MS is pushing kinect heavily with titles to be released all the way into 2013.
The Wii U is dangerous to both, but i don't think Sony and MS really see it that way given their boatload of exclusivity contracts.
That, and both companies stated that their consoles are "around the middle of their lifecycle".
All in all, i would be *very* surprised if a new console by either MS or Sony would be released next year. They'd be shooting themselves in the foot, really. Neither the PS3 nor the 360 have attained a "classic" status (like the PS2 or Xbox before it), people will not continue to buy them when newer versions are released, especially if they have backwards compatability (something both current gens lack and which hindered their launches greatly, especially in the PS3's case).

They most likely (and this is just my own thoughts) didn't chose a PC release because it is notoriously difficult to stop cheating in FPS games on the PC.

hahaha op is such a moron sony is not ******ed, kinect is awful technology that still needs 10 years of development and they would never base an entire console on that garbage 20 million units for the first year of release? are you ****ing dense? try closer to 100 million its not going to be out until at least 2013, and as for dust ps4 should be able to run all ps3 games, including downloads, since they arent inventing a new stupid disc this time

Is there some reason that a version of dust can't be released for the PS4 when it comes out?
As far as the PS3 being end of life, you can still buy PS2's brand new. PS3 has many many years left ahead of it.

Heh, I was wondering how long they'd keep trying to push these multicore machines until they just gave up and said "pffft, ****ed if i know how to write threaded processes, lets just build another machine".
In all fairness the CPUs are the only thing going for them (especially sony), the GPU's are already getting dated. The ps3s GPU is based on nvidias 7800gtx, and has 256mb of ddr3. Consoles typically need less in the way of hardware, since everything is heavily optimised for the machine, but still, regardless of speed or amount of memory, no amount of optimizations can match the features of todays DX11 GPUs. Add to this, that the GPU was a last minute change to the PS3, and was not elegantly added to the architecture, since they HAD planned to add a GPU similar to their "cell" CPU.
They try to push more and more work to the CPU, but apparently they still barely use 50% of the cores most of the time, and not in the wholesome threaded awesome way. I think only one game has come close to pushing the PS3's cpu, i can't remember the name... the one where you fly around on a dragon, or can swoop down to battles on the ground (all happening in realtime etc) and jump off to join the swordsmen etc. But still, even that was just raw load being thrown at the cpu, no decent coding. It seems the multicore fad, just didn't take on for developers, even on PC's, generally the only truly threaded applications are reserved for video editing suites or other such batch processes.
Perhaps its time they finally gave up and tried a different approach.
