It's the Drake of Doom, which is obviously going to be introduced through the NEX. It's speed of 2000m/s will entice people to spend real money on EVE! Cool eh?

Just to be clear, the "Drake Of Doom" that goes 2km/s NEVER gonna go onto Tranquility in any shape, way or form.
The Drake of Doom was a test we did, to test the new "Bulk Data Delivery System" which we've been working on for some months now. In order to see that we could deliver changes in static data to a larger number of clients, myself and the lovely DB programmer who wrote the system, decided to change the name of the drake to "Drake of Doom" and make it go 2km/s, as we figured people would enjoy that.
It's gonna go away today or tomorrow most likely. So enjoy it while it lasts. I've seen people gain some crazy speeds in it!

does that imply that the data base dumps, many 3rd party programs use will be crippled in their usability ? ________________________________________________ Some days i loose, some days the others win ... |

to my understanding he talks about "on the fly" patching in/out or modifying of content. For this you need a method to change the client side data, which ccp right now can only do via a formal client patch. With his new tool, they could do it on the fly.
Which is nice for events & stuff but nasty for 3rd party tools ________________________________________________ Some days i loose, some days the others win ... |

You're pretty spot on :)
This is a rewrite of a system we already have, but doesn't work as we want it. For cases where we need to change static data as soon as possible, this will allow us to fix things during a downtime, as opposed to a client patch. We will, however, only be releasing urgent fixes through that. Not functional changes per say, which would invalidate our static data export.
So don't worry. If we change static that will impact third party devs, a new static data export will go out.

With a battleship microwarpdrive, I was able to get a Drake of Doom up to about 47 km/s capacitor-stable, and could bowl a customs battleship hundreds of kilometers away from it's assigned stargate. It was interesting to note that the customs battleship did not attempt to warp back to the stargate.
"I'm sorry, this DED 1/10 complex will not let anything bigger than frigates through the acceleration gate."
"I DON'T NEED ACCELERATION GATES! I'M A DRAKE OF DOOM! [Proceeds to 'slowboat' the 10,000 km in about 3.5 minutes.]"
Now I want milli-warpdrives so that I can go racing around a solar system at 1/10 lightspeed and terrible align time. _____ SURVIVOR of Teskanen, fan of John Rourke. The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated |

The really odd thing is EVE has had this feature for a long time now.... about half a year / year back on sisi they showed it off. It was last used that i know of when they did the faction BS overhaul before the "redeem" system was created, so a GM had to go to a FFA and jet wave after wave of unpiloted ships for people to get them. When idiots like goons came in with carriers and motherships to scoop way more than they were allowed, GMs on the fly set ALL ship maint bays to 0 M3 for all capitals and supers. This was done without a patch, reboot, or anything. It was truly on the fly like they say they added now. My guess is that what is really happening is they are refining it so it either does not stress the grid as much, or maybe adding even more functionality to that tool. __________________________________________________ this is not a sig |
