Hey, I wasn't sure where to put this but I'll give it a shot here.
Me and my friend just recently started to play eve online, I got some experience from before and he is about three weeks into the game. Both of us is flying around in a Rifter with PvP setup and are aiming to live as PvPers mostly. We both went out togheter to low sec/nullsec today and it went pretty good, atleast we survived a long time untill we both got out ships killed when a 6 man fleet attacked us. We managed to get out with our pods.
But, if was mostly fun, saw some action almost cought and killed some Industrial ships and transport ship untill we ran out of power for the Warp Scramblers. But that wasn't really the point of this thread :)
We both asked some question to eachothers repeatedly during our hunt for some easy prays, I will try to keep it simply; Will two T1 Frigates(Rifter in this case) be able to take down a T2 frigate? Not counting assault ships, as they seems to be an upgraded version.
Wich should be our next step? What cruiser or should we go for a T2 Assault Ship(Wolf/Jaguar)?
Is there any system more populated with new players like us?
If you feel like you could help me out with anything else, go ahead please. Links, or anything would be awesome

Edited by: Louis deGuerre on 08/07/2011 22:31:07 It really depends on the frigate and the pilot. If it's a T1 pirate faction frigate like a Dramiel or a Daredevil, you want to GTFO. Still, a killer frigate is only as good as the player flying it and 2 rifters can kick serious ass. I'd say train all the way up to T1 BC first at least as they are powerful yet cheap. T2 is nice but expensive to lose. Every ships has its ups and downs. I recommend staying away from ships you meet that you don't know. Then check up on their strengths and weaknesses so you know if and how to engage them when you see them again.
Important fit thingie : your disruptor will not disable an MWD. Only a scrambler will. So any frigate sized prey with MWD can escape as you can't keep up with just AB. I'd recommend at least one of you switching to scrambler. |

If properly fit and flown... yes. Hell, there's a good chance you might be able to grind down and kill a cruiser.

Depends. Which do YOU feel is best?
If you want stick to small ships then the Wolf and Jaguar will be the logical next step. Just remember that despite being "upgraded" frigates they are still frigates. This means that you will have a more limited engagement envelope but also be able to avoid and choose what fights you want to be in to begin with.
If you want to go up to larger ships, cruisers are the next logical choice. Because they [generally] have a heavier tank, bigger weapons, more slots, and more CPU/PG to play with they have a much wider engagement envelope compared to frigates. However, they are also MUCH slower compared to frigates and may not be able to avoid or choose fights with the same ease as a frigate can.

Outside of newbie systems and trade/mission hubs, nowhere specific. All I can say is that most of the "young" population resides in high-sec... and even that I'm not entirely sure about.

You have the right idea. This setup is good for solo/duo roamers and especially good versus frigates. However... - ditch the rocket launcher and put a nosferatu in its place. It will help mitigate capacitor loss over the course of a battle and help you keep "point" longer. - consider trading in your warp disruptor for a warp scrambler. The disruptor has the longer range (20km) but uses a fair bit of capacitor to run. A warp scrambler has a MUCH shorter range (8km) but it uses less CPU to fit, less capacitor to run, and can shut down MWDs (microwarpdrives) when it "connects."
In terms of tactics with a frigate...
- Against other frigates: -- go in fast and hard. -- stay on them and focus your fire on one at a time to ensure a speedy kill, which will take DPS off your side and allow you more tactical flexibility.
- Against larger ships (i.e. cruiser and up: -- if the fight starts at range, DO NOT make a beeline towards the ship. Fly perpendicular so that the turrets of the target have trouble tracking you (note: if the target is a missile ship this does not apply, burn forward and apply damage ASAP). -- once you are close, dive in and try to get an orbit going as close as you can... this will further screw around with the target's ability to track and damage you. -- kill off any and all drones that the target has out. Once all dead, the target has nothing to significantly damage you with and must just sit and wait for "the end."
- In all scenarios: -- if you engage something and the "number count" in the local channel "spikes" up, find a way to disengage and GTFO. Your target's back-up has just come into system and is on its way. -- make bookmarks in the middle of space while you are warping to different planets, stations, and stargates... ESPECIALLY if you expect to engage in hostilities nearby or in that system. Having such bookmarks gives you some flexibility as to where you can "escape to" when things go bad. It also complicates matters for your attackers as they will need a ship loaded with "combat probes" to find you. -- alter your ship's fit every once in awhile to test out new tactics. As your skills develop, revisit old fits and ideas to see if you can do something "new" with them. |

Thanks alot ShahFluffers, that helped alot. I think we might try a cruiser next as they are a bit cheaper and have less skill prerequisits.
Actually I tought about the thing with warp scramble and disruptor before we took off yesterday. My friend got a warp scramble fitted and I use a warp disruptor. I might try the setup with nosfer on some pirates/rats today with my friend to see how long the power will last. Thanks alot for the help.
If anyone got any advice wich cruiser we should choose please tell us. I know some are mentioned quite often, the ones I know are: Thorax, Vexor, Stabber, Maller, Rupture and Caracal. But as we both are used to guns/lasers we would prefer not to use the Caracal. And neither of us have ever used drones that much.
So I think we will choose between Rupture, stabber and Maller? maybe an omen? Wich one would you recommend? Is it worth training for Gallente even tough we don't have any experience using drones or hybrid guns?
I know how a fitting might look like, otherwise I know how to use google. |

They're all good, with Thorax and Rupture my favourites. If you fly anything bigger than a frigate you will want to get some drone skills. Don't even think about flying a battleship without good drone skills. Minmatar is currently flavour of the month, so I'd say Rupture, but I find myself flying Gallente ships a lot. |

Then I guess it's worth it to train some drone skills and get some practice with using drones. Is there any special Gallante ship you would go for? Otherwise I might go for a Thorax just cause I think they look nice, lol.
But thanks alot really, this really helped me get my mind straight for the time being. |

If you want a solid overview of frigates in eve check the latest series by Azual of "The Altruist" called Know your enemy.
Eve FNG and Flight of Dragons are two more blogs aimed at the new player getting started with PvP, you might want to check them as well. |

How do I bookmark while in midwarp? Only thing I know right now is to fly manually out in space, drop a cargo container and bookmark it. |
