I would like to say this to anyone using this term...
1. A peasant is an agricultural worker who generally works land owned or rented by/from a noble, the peasant was bound to the land and couldn't move or change their occupation unless they became a yeoman (free person) which generally happened by buying their freedom, the peasant also generally had to give most of their crops to the noble. The word is derived from 15th century French pansant meaning one from the pays, or countryside, ultimately from the Latin pagus, or outlying administrative district (when the Roman Empire became Christian, these outlying districts were the last to Christianise, and this gave rise to "pagan" as a religious term).
[1] The term peasant today is sometimes used in a pejorative sense for impoverished farmers.
2. Are pejorative terms allowed by the EULA/TOS in EVE forums?
3. Should such be allowed?
P.S. As an Citizen of the United States I personally find this term offensive, and fighting words under the legal sense of it, should someone use this in RL to insult me I believe they would take some calcium supliments in the form or swallowing their teeth with the help of a fist.
... and in EVE, I think that anyone using it is obviously a self-bloated fop of a certain kind to which the term baffoon seems to fit.

i think the word you really mean to be "offended by" is: Serf.
a serf was basically an indentured slave. a peasant was simply referring to the lowest class of "free" person...

Not that he'd get any respect after this farcical post. "As an Citizen of the United States"? really? How does have any relevance to your argument at all? Especially when you immediately ruin the point by saying "I personally".
As a citizen of the United States, I find your over-sensitive whining to be pathetic. HTFU, nut up or shut up, etc., etc.
Or don't. The monocleers find your peasant tears delicious; I too, revel in the epicaricacy.

It's ingame. Anything ingame is ok as long as it is in game. Monocole discussions are about characters ingame. Also as a citizen of the US myself I find it devastating that there are people around who think saying as a citizen of the usa i personally beleive etc and take a fake sence of a power trip to something that seems offensive to them.

Obvious troll but I'll bite...
The OP re-inforces the perceptions that of those of us who live outside the US have about the folks who live there.
And given the US history re: the Black African slave trade, the OP should be mindful of the glass house that he is in, whilst throwing stones.
Have a nice day.

As a citizen of the US you probably find a lot of things offensive that the rest of the world doesn't mind.
Also, as a citizen of the other part of the world, I find your lack of serenity offensive and I would like to point out that I do not appreciate having US Citizens' opinions overruling my liberty.

"Peasant" is a term used by the nouveau-riche who are struggling to fit in but who unfailingly manage to stick out like a sore thumb through their weak grasp of the proper language, style, and mannerisms, and in particular through their uncouth behaviour.
The proper term, of course, is grasping lower order, to which, try as they might to avoid it, these upstarts still belongà ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. Can anyone explainà aw screw it, let's just do it! What could go wrong?ö ù ÇÇP |

Edited by: Callean Drevus on 11/07/2011 10:20:36 Personally I do not dislike the term Peasant. I just kind of always confuse it with Pheasant, which makes people saying things like 'Why can't I hunt Pheasants' so incredibly weird :)
In any case, considering the EVE implications of the word peasant. Is it OK to call beginning miners peasants? Since according to the definition:
Quote: [1] The term peasant today is sometimes used in a pejorative sense for impoverished farmers.
That's what they are, assuming that mining is somewhat analogous to farming, and that corporations are somewhat similar to overlords... --- "A fool flatters himself, a wise man flatters the fool."

You are aware that the "fighting words" doctrine is essentially defunct? In legal circles its hardly taken seriously and you now mostly hear it refereed to by wanna college black radicals as an potential excuse for violence they never get around to acually engaging in.

Peasant is actually a definition, and one that applies quite well to large parts of the eve population (0.0 renter alliances mainly). And of course pejorative terms are allowed, pretty much every post includes them for a start (carebear, pet, slave, farmer, miner, ccp employee).
Also that is a hell of a lot of wikipedia for this early in the day.
