Forgetting all the factual differences between the trailer and current gameplay/ship balance, there's one thing I have been wondering about for a while now. The main plot of the trailer is simple:
Close range fleet gets engaged by a long range one, hero interceptor must burn towards them to provide a warpin.
This all revolves around the game mechanic which allows you to warp to other people only if they are in your fleet. While simple, this is not something immediately obvious to new players, nor something with any parallels in other games.
Isn't a significant purpose of the trailer to attract new players to EVE? Someone who has never played before will have no clue what's going on, because they are missing this crucial plot point. They don't see the role of the hero, they just see what appears to be an easy victory of his side.
Anyone thought of this? ---

Also who the hell uses Sniper Fleets that can be warped too.
******ed Fleet Commanders doesn't make Gallente a good fleet race.
Nice Try CCP, you can't PR a Gallente fix.

Edited by: Makko Gray on 11/07/2011 20:11:34 I think it's supposed to be cinematic, not factually accurate.

Honestly it is easily the most accurate representation of fleet warfare so far, down to the comms. The only issue is the fleet comps. And warpins are not only common, they're easy - combat probing and ballsy covops make them commonplace.

I thought the "coms" intergration was great, it really blurred the line between roleplaying atmosphere and how we communicate in game.

In the video description CCP claims it is an accurate account from a player of a battle that took place in Eve at some point.
If that's the case, I'm curious who the FC was that used a Hyperion for a fleet engagement.

I like that they actually released a trailer. So props to putting the effort and work into that. But Misleading new players who think gallente is viable atm is kinda cruel.

The trailer was very plausible, I guess this is how it looks like when two cripple fleets duke it out. ie people dying to long range bs without being tackled, nobody having probes so some dude has to burn 200k to provide a warpin and no defensive bubbles to protect the sniper fleet from getting warped on.

I really enjoyed it. I think if the aim is to perk interest in EVE, it will work. Few noobs will look too deeply into the mechanics of the fight, they will just see "shiny spaceships and lazors".
All the people complaining about it are probably bittervets who are so burntout that nothing will get them excited. Thats ok, its natural, most people reach a point where they no longer enjoy a game, for some its longer than others. It would be nice if people who are no longer enjoying EVE just leave quietly though, instead of *****ing and moaning and clogging up the forum with their whiny tears

Warp to 0 try to keep up quoted in the movie.
You can not warp 100km just because your Ceptor is at 150km. A warp that should not happen if there was tackle on Grid. So yes two most ******ed Fleet Commanders ever.

Oh yes top concern for every Exhumer just incase a helpful PVP Wolf with no Point shows up.
You sure you don't wanna replace point with 3 empty midslots and a Civi Sheild...

No just cause you have a fleet mamber at 150km doesn't mean you can warp at anything less then 150km.

Anyone thought of this?
The trailer contains the following messages (most of them common with past eve trailers).
1. The little guy. Even if you are the smallest booger in the galaxy (lone wolf in the butterfly effect trailer or this hot dude flying the ceptor ) you are needed and can have an impact on the game.
2. Angles of approach. Makes it obvious that you can either be the hero-carebear type, defending your own piece of galaxy from the evil ambushing fleet, or be part of the ones that set the trap. It does not matter if you are the producer who built the *****-looking-amarrian-freighters (forgot name) that undock at start, the one that flies the interceptor or the fleet commander that keeps it together. You will get involved in the action no matter the path you take.
3. Permissive gameplay. You can set up ambushes. You have to play your opponent in order to gain the upper hand. Lots of strategy involved, unorthodox tactics being something common. Are YOU original enough?
4. Dynamic universe/anything can happen. The smallest fly if left unchecked can turn the tide of events or of a battle. What do we learn from this? Get the ****ing ceptors.
5. Variety of content. The fleets are fitted in different ways. You can pick whatever you think suits you best (green pew pew laser, rainbow beams that explode on impact, cannonball throwers on minmatar ships etc). If everyone is different then no matter what I'm doing it right...right?
6. Chain of command/emulated reality. Listen to the voice coms. YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE IN FRIGGIN TOP GUN! How can you not want to buy eve and fly 200 clicks of space towards an enemy fleet? THEY WILL SAY YOUR NAME ON COMS! Hero herp derp!
And these are the obvious ones. Smart people have quotes in their sig - me |

Agreed. CCP should have spent the first 5 minutes explaining in detail how the game mechanics work, then show the trailer. This way, the new people that the trailer is meant for will understand whats going on.
