As a semi-new player to EVE I am enjoying it quite a bit, in fact so much so that plopped down for some GTC's sold them in game, and got a decent character to get started with off the Bazaar. Part of this has got me thinking about maybe starting a corporation as I have not really been able to find one that both meets my interests and at least has a few people on at any given time. However I know EVE has been out for quite awhile and it is possible that starting a new corp is just a exercise in futility. So i figured i'd ask the veterans and folks who know their stuff.

Assuming you have a network of people in-game who would be willing to start this corporation with you, the best thing you can do for yourself is to set a goal and stick to it.
Where do you want to be?
Part of a large 0.0 Sovereignty-holding alliance? Mercenaries? Pirates? Industrialists? Traders? Something else?
While you can do many things at once and diversification is part of growing up, it's best in the beginning to have a coherent vision to deliver to founders and new recruits alike. It will give you an identity and make it much easier for you to make some of the decisions you'll face.
As far as gathering good people to you, it's a matter of having a good reputation derived from displayed competence in your chosen activities. Beyond that, real leadership skills are important if you plan to actually lead people.

Edited by: Lovelocke on 13/07/2011 00:26:56 Hiya pal,
I'm fairly new to the game myself. I'd say it's definitely possible to make a corp from scratch and go somewhere with it. I'm doing well with my corp, ENL-I; we're living out in 0.0 and getting involved in some fantastic PvP action.
It's tough work. I'd say the toughest is staying motivated. You need a vision, a goal, and you need to work towards it. I'd say, for a starting corp at least, a CEO's primary responsibility is staying positive and encouraging his members to crack on.
Feel free to hook me up in game, would be happy to pass on what I've learned so far. CEO Enlightened Industries |

Turn-over on corporations in eve is quite high, so newer corporations have a lot of possibilities. Problem is that without a network of acquaintances you'll be looking at an empty corp chat. One of the easiest ways to build that up when you are an unknown entity is to enter FW, build your rep over time and start a corp.
Plenty of recent examples of people doing this. FW is good for this because of the required need for interaction within your own militia makes people play FW like an MMO (before that in the eve career a lot of people play this game basically solo), so you get to know a lot of people fairly fast.
Of course if your personality sucks noone will come over to your corp:)

Most people that succeed with anything, be it RL or EVE, is either a visionary and/or a leader. Just ask yourself if you are either. If not, then recruit one, make sure you maintain in control of the corp and let him loose. -
