I think it's more that people can finally see where CCP is coming from in this game. People like to believe in fairness, but it's business. There's much money to be made when CCP makes changes the direct more folks to the GTC's. Especially with new player's.
CCP is making plex harder to get for a reason folks, that's why all the "harder to make isk" in game changes they have made. They want you to go the easier route, and spend money, rather than grind.
It's just now it's more obvious than ever before.
I think you have a very flawed understanding of how plexs work if that's what you think. If the average income in isk of players drops, then the price of plex drops, which makes the thought of flipping plex for isk less appealing, which causes fewer people to buy plexs from CCP in order to sell for isk.
Ce qu'on gagne avec un main on perd de l'autre.
While I'm not saying that CCP isn't doing anything to boost the demand for plexs, the idea that they're making isk harder to make for the purpose of boosting plex sales, when lowering the average income of players to the point where plex is unobtainable for most of them (a point which will never happen mind you, because plex prices will just drop until people start buying them again), is absurd. There is no magic plex -> isk button, there is no set price for plexs. Lowering what the average person makes per hour in isk does nothing to drive people to buying more plexs for rl money, it just lowers the price of plexs for isk.
Anyway, as for the OP: There is a difference, albeit not a huge one, but to many it is important nonetheless:
With the current mechanics as they are, the only thing you can obtain with RL cash is isk. Isk is by no means hard to come by, and most people can afford what they asplode with reasonable ease. Because of this, someone spending a bunch of money to get a bunch of isk doesn't really bother people (though, to be fair, there are a lot of people who've whined over the years about it, but most are told to stfu, especially because unlike most p2w, this particular method allows a LOT more people to play the game). Now, let's say, for example, CCP decides to release a new form of p2w by selling non-time locked cerebral accelerators for aurum (+3 to all attributes and 20% DPS). Now this in itself isn't THAT game breaking, but it introduces a new problem: In order to be competitive in pvp, you would NEED this booster. Given that eve is already on the upper end of the subscription cost, something that essentially forces people to pay extra just to not suck at eve is something that would **** off a lot of people. |
