Hello all,
I am currently trying to decide in what direction would be best for pvp. I am currently flying a Arbitrator and am wondering what would be worth working towards next a battle cruiser or assault frigate (maybe stealth bomber)? I current fly with another Rifter and an Armageddon. I guess my question is will a Assault frigate do as much Damage as a Battle Cruiser or not likely? Any help on this matter would greatly be appreciated!

You'll get quite a bit more DPS out of a BC, if that's your goal. AFs main strength is their high DPS for their size and sig radius, that is, they're hard to hit. Get in close to a target and just orbit under their guns. That said, AFs are little used with a few exceptions because of various issues with them. I'd say go BC, you'll find a lot more utility in them.

Thank you that sounds like a great plan.

Battle Cruiser V is just about the most useful skill in the game, train into your BC and max out every thing for your favored fit. BTXI |

If you already have Frigate 5 then train Assault Ships to 4 (its a pre-req for HACs anyway). That should take you a couple of days and gives you access to the Wolf & Jaguar (assuming you have minnie frigate 5).
Then train up BC to at least 4.
Now you have the option of using either. Its such a short training period for AF4 that its worth doing. I wouldn't recommend training AFs to L5 at this time - lots of us did in the past but that was mainly cos we thought a fourth bonus was going to happen. Its obviously nice to have L5 but it doesn't need to be done now.
To give you a comparison in DPS - a typical Wolf fit (for me) will do about 270DPS overheated. A typical nano Hurricane fit will do about 700DPS overheated.

bomber is a nice option too, you get them up to 700 DPS with good skills and overheat and they tank something if you dont failfit them. Nice for solo roams as well as as gang completion, many people underestimate them as damage dealer, they are very common most damage dealers on KMs.

It'd be even nicer if BCU2s actually worked on them. Unless I missed a nerf its another bug - two BCU2s online and offline, no difference to charge damage in fitting screen. I'm sure they worked last month

maybe EFT outdated? I am not aware of any patchnotes related to that.

Nor am I but its completely repeatable, tried relogging/repackaging/clearing cache. Charge damage sits at 1258 regardless of whether a BCU2 is fitted or not. EFT claims its 1504 per charge. Its not implants either.
Hmmm it seems clear enough - the 10% damage bonus from BCU isn't applying to torps or if it is then its not displaying on the fitting screen, either in station or in space. I wonder when that happened....
Edit - anyway I'm dragging the guys thread OT

The best thing that I can suggest is both :). In all seriousness it depends on how you like to fly. For fast moving raid style pvp the AF is the way to go. If you are looking for more mid size engagements (20-30 pilots a side) BC's are preferred - you are more likely to live through an alpha strike in a BC then an AF and range is less a factor.
I personally prefer AF's at the moment and most FC's won't turn down a well skilled frig pilot - every fleet needs tackle and anti tackle.

Damage has never been affected by BCU's.. It's always been a RoF mod, read the description.

You are a noob! Before CCP changed them they affected both damage and RoF. My ancient version of EFT confirms this!

Dude as someone has said, BC 5 is the most useful skill in the game. I trained HAC 5 and AF / Ceptors way before I ever got to BC 5 and constantly had to PLEX up. Funny how BC's are now the "goto" boat that HACS used to be.

Actually Bcu II's have never given the damage bonus to torps. Rate of fire yes, damage bonus no.

Wrong. If you genuinely don't know wtf you're on about then staying silent is the best idea
Its a confirmed bug.

Battle cruisers are the single most versatile ship class in the game. In a lot of ways they are the class everything else is compared to. So the choice is obvious. It takes a good 6 months to master your BC but you can get decent skills (t2 fittings, BC4, support skills 4) within 2-3 months of creating your character. So it's relatively light on the skill training side compared to a lot of other stuff.

BC all the way. AFs have their place and can be fun to fly, but if you dont know what you're facing you're better off being in a BC.

+1 for BCs
OK it was a tough choice, Hurricane and Wolf are up there with the Loki as my most favouritist toys ever.
But yeah, the cane is probably the easiest thing to fly ever. You push the occasional button and everything just sort of dies.
