I will refrain from cross posting my other reply again and say this. Whilst the vanity items do not get destroyed your implants still do.
So whilst you dont get to destroy the actual monicle or whatever it is that displeases you, the in game effect is that if it bothers you that much you can still suicide gank someone for wearing one, be it their pod or their ship.
You then get the joy of explaining to them in local that what just happened was the direct result of them wearing the item.
To harp on endlessly about it not being realistic deserves the same response as those people that go on about the physics not being correct or the tracking formular being unrealistic.
EVE is a game, not a simulation.

its a social experiment. watching the aftermath of all this and what has been said, it is a deliberate experiment to divide the player base into classes . the indestructible portion of that equation maybe a mis calculation but it might also be deliberate, as those items may become artificially scarce by removing them from the market. Thus intensifying the divide of the so called classes . creating indestructible artificially rare items would be a way to create a group of player of "those who have" and "the have not" . Remember eve is real .. cough music the paint dance floor the canvas your body the brush |

Talking smack in local when they still have what you tried to blow them up for having...Yeah, get back to me on that one when you try it.
Also, EVE is clearly not a game. Haven't you been reading CCP's talking points memo? EVE is real.
Duh.

Edited by: Rosa Cardenalis on 15/07/2011 06:01:28 My point is that you seem to want to remove these things from the game entirely, which clearly isnt CCPs aim.
If you suicide their pod or ship they still lost as a minimum, their clone and any implants that they have, which if they bother to buy a monicle could easily be expensive.
Grouping together and blowing up someone's expensive ship, just because they are wearing a monicle has exacly the same effect as blowing up the monicle itself, it cost them isk/money to replace. These are very real in game concequences.
Your only point is that you cannot permanently destroy the monicle itself. Which, since it is a vanity item seems rather minor to me.
It is the very existance of the monicle and the fact that someone is willing to buy it that is driving you to rant endlessly on the forums.
And that makes you sound like a loon.
The fact that you cannot even think of any creative in game ways to get back at monicle wearers, shshows me that you are also not very good.

I don't know, but it appears to me OP has a logical question. Not sure why the bashing about.
Because this is thread 538,296,701 about this facepalm of a topic. I swear the entire minority of the forums is totally grasping at straws, looking for something to grab another person's attention in order to incite rage that should have ended weeks ago. Blizzard doesn't let you lose anything if you die, this is eve online we are talking about not some childrens game with p(h)onies.
Not being able to destroy monocles is stupid, has no RP reason and this should be changed. Why it can't be destroyed can only be attributed to a someone in the marketing/business side of things catering to carebears. An RP reason can easily be invented. After all, as someone has already pointed out, your basic clothes all survive being podded.
Your clone is dressed exactly the same way as the one that just died, so nothing has changed with the addition of Nex items. They get on the new clone the same way the other clothes do.
You can't overly focus on RP. Its a game and the mechanics exist to encourage certain behaviours. This is no different, its just the behaviour they want is more people spending RL money on in game items.

Ok??? Whats your point? The issue is this **** keeps being brought up over and over again when its not a big deal.
Yea, like I said in that post, if it is an implant go ahead and destroy it, but Im not *****ing and complaining every freaking day on the message boards becasue I cant destroy someones goddamn glass eyeball. Thats the point.
Out of all the things to complain about, this is the least important. CCP can get rid of the monocle for all I care, they can keep it indestructible as well...I really do not care either way, just stop complaining about the same **** over and over and over and over again.
Supercaps balancing = Important Lag = Importamt Gallente Ship Balance = Important Fixing Bugs = Important New Player Retention = Important Fix Mining = Important I cant destroy Mr. Moneybaggs Monocle = wtf, seriously?
As someone said on these forums not too long ago: "We're podded (some of us at least) and automatically get reborn in clone vats trillions of miles away - and you're worried about monocles and pants?"
and someone mentioned this idea in the same thread and I think it works perfectly:
" When you buy clothes or implants with NEX, this includes an agreement with the network managing you medical clones to procure and provide replacement items upon activation. Every time. Forever. Hence, why they cost so bloody damn much. High fashion is a challenge to provide for near-immortals who die ALL THE TIME.
The initial items are stored in your pod, destroyed when you are destroyed. When you are podded, YOU DO NOT RESPAWN at your target destination, you respawn at your medical clone, where they have received (along with your infomorph) the go-ahead to provide reissues of the destroyed NEX items. They do not have license to provide these to you until your pod is confirmed destroyed, which presumes your stored clothes and implants are also destroyed. This prevents devaluation of these highly exclusive brands.
Jump clones do not automatically get the NEX clothes and monocle, don't you need to purchase a set for each jump clone? I have not tested, but I got a message to that effect in-game."

Because CCP don't want to automatically reproduce your avatar without the monocle and clothing every time you get pod killed. When they are in your hold, it's not necessary to rerender, so they are vulnerable.
The sad part is that the CSM is happily joining CCP in the truthless assertion that people won't buy them if they are vulnerable. In six months time, one way or another you won't care about this.

Here are 2 items Ive gleaned form dev and CSM member posts:
1) For RP proposes: The clothes you are wearing when undocking are stored in the pod to insure you have something to wear when you dock someplace else.
2) For game mechanic purposes: Worn clothes are indestructible because because if they were vulnerable most everyone would change out of them before undocking. And then you still could not blow them up.
For a RP perspective, can this be explained? Sure, for example:
"When you start the undocking process, you first get in your pod. There nanites disassemble your clothes in about a second before the pod is filled, storing the clothing components in the pod. Upon docking the pod is drained and the nanites clean and dry you before reconstructing the clothes upon your body, again all in a few seconds.
If your pod is destroyed a record of the clothes deconstructed by the nanites is transmitted to the clone station along with your mind, allowing both to be reconstructed. Unfortunately, implants are too complex to be reconstructed in this way. Also the Jovians who provided the pod technology are unwilling (or unable) to extend it to the rest of the ship or cargo, so only the items in the pod can be reconstructed."
It may be a nice story, fits with the current game, but its not canon until CCP says its canon. That's my complaint about Incarna, CCP could take a story like mine, edit it to their satisfaction and put it out in a blog or something, but they do not.

Edited by: Lucas Kell on 15/07/2011 18:28:01 Explanation for clothing: We are in a universe where there clothing companies realise the hazards of the day to day life of an individual, and so when you purchase a piece of clothing, you actualy purchase the right to have that piece of clothing replicated onto your body whenever you dock at a station. You have essentially purchased a license for your clothing which allows you to wear a single copy of it at any time you wish, directly produced onto your body when at a station.
There is your RP reasoning. The End. Go back to EVE and play as clothing really doesn't matter.

Seriously: why are monocles indestructible?
This is not the question; it is: Why can't I punch someone in the head and knock the monocle on the ground and then smash it to bits and then force them to eat the glass shards of it and die from internal bleeding in a pool of bloody vomit?
I feel that that would be immersive, I feel this should be added to the game... Signature removed for not being EVE related. Zymurgist |
