I'm pretty new to this EVE stuff (7 months I think) and in my past I've worked in sales IRL leading to my new career playing poker (pretty high stakes) which has lead to me having free time to explore the phenomenon that is EVE. I can't understand for the life of me why people have alts who do things like bring down alliances for the fun of it, or wardeccing their own alts corps, I am lost for words why people plow so much of their lives into this game when they let their own kids run round around them!! What's in this for you there's no monetary return for your hours of plotting and sub-plotting, no return for your hours of mining it means nothing....so what if CCP insert MT wtf does it matter lol, so what if I make a corp build it up then bring it down with an alt? What does it matter if I with my money can buy a ship that wins this game? What does it matter if I can buy a monocle and pretend I am better than everyone else cos when most of you log off this game youre right back in your own reality....and griefers keep griefing for what? whats the point of it all lol.....yes you can have my stuff its not a lot but I think I might just uninstall this sorry state of affairs and go and give my son a hug instead...what do I win? I win a life that's not made up of pixels and people across the world I dont even know and cant even trust cos people can be anyone well played chaps enjoy your split personalities and your micro transactions YOU WIN a nice spaceship thats not real

That question buried in your wall of text is quite similar to the age old question, "What's the meaning of life?" or "Why are we even here?"
We do it because we enjoy it.
Especially when "it" involves a guy who can't find his return button and is spilling tears all over GD for reasons unknown. And if you're reading this, you've fallen into a signature trap. You owe me 1m ISK. |

Hes 6 hed probably be as bad as me too trusting and when I joined this game I made this character to be the one person in the game.....I dont get what enjoyment people get lol explain it to me, Ive met some great people but just the thought that they could be other characters in game makes me not trust humanity as a whole

Dante sorry for the wall of text but I think you're right I'm at that point in my life where I'm questioning everything around me, I've met some great guys on here from all over the world and the thought that they could not be the person I speak to on Teamspeak and have fought with or done missions with makes me doubt myself as a judge of people IRL

So what happened? did someone who you thought was your friend betray you with an alt?
Sucks.

Hmm, maybe I was a bit harsh in my previous comment. What you do need to remember though, this is only a game. Yes, there are people acting out maybe their darkest fantasies or alter-egos, but on the outside(of the game), I'm pretty sure we're all relatively the same.
Like you, questioning everything around you. I know a lot of people that do that. It's pretty normal and is a mindset you should actually have in a game like EVE. And if you're reading this, you've fallen into a signature trap. You owe me 1m ISK. |

Everything that goes on in Eve is ultimately for fun.
If you're not having fun then you're either doing something wrong, or Eve just isn't your type of game.

ive always trusted my judgement on people ....ive read peoples faces when theirs loads of money gone in....im kind of assuming that people have the same level of buyin here....they do just a different kind of buyin.....people want to be the worst people they can be so they can let out their RL frustration....lol watch out when I lose a big hand

+1
I play Eve when I have some spare time. Spare time is not in the evenings between getting home and going to bed, nor is it a lot of the weekend. Spare time for me is any tmie that's left over from spending time doing stuff with my family, or taking my sons on an outdoor adventure, or going out with my wife for a good night of food + drink + laughing at ourselves.
Playing Eve is at the bottom of my prioritised pile of "stuff", but I still manage to get fun out of it by playing it for fun and only fun.
Love you, love you loads.

Humans tend to act according to boundaries of social norms. This is true of the real universe and the eve universe.
Seeing how the eve universe is an extension of the real universe, expecting similar social norms would be a miscalculation.
Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth. Then you'll see, that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself.
