ur best bet would be to dock up. jump into an empty clone, change insurance clone to that system or as close as you can get it, and self destruct.
or petition and get it back in 6-8 business days.
'But I don't want to go among mad people,' said Alice. 'Oh, you can't help that,' said the cat. 'We're all mad here.' |

When the database crashes sometimes odd stuff does happen.
To retrieve your ship: you can fly your pod up to your un-piloted ship and board it.
Unless someone else finds it first and takes it.

I like how the current state of the game means you can't feel safe even when logged out. Implants vanish, you log in to a different location or like the OP, your ships are handed out to the first taker.
Even when logged in the new UI is working it's hardest to get you killed.
It's very frustrating (yes I'm mad etc ) ~~~

did you end up in the station where you entered your mac?
its not hard to believe when the db was puking up blood that it missed your ship change and undock yet when you entered the new system it logged the addition of a new ship in the system but lost track of where you were as it was unaware that you changed ships and undcked.
thus when the db came back up it saw you in station in a pod and an unmanned mac one system over. or something along those lines just a thought

I seem to remember ghost ships being a problem quite frequently in the past when Dominion was first introduced. The node would crap out, and people would log back on a few hours later to find that their capitals had somehow... multiplied like rabbits, or they were not even aboard their ship but were in their pod, and their ship was where they had left it before attempting to jump.
CCP had to go through and I believe take away the extraneous ships from people and there was a big fuss about it of course.
I may be remembering it wrong tho, the information at the time was kind of sketchy cuz so many other things were going wrong as well.

I'd shiver to think what would happen if this were to occur in a multi-billion pimped PvE ship.
And don't give me crap on not needing such an expensive ship. This is a serious matter, and it's third time in as many days that the EVE server is having database crashes. Plus we had an extra serverside downtime issue earlier this week.
I say CCP owes us an explanation.
