(Bourynes System ù 7/19/113) Local authorities are investigating a mysterious break-in at the offices of the University of Caille Neuroscience Foundation aboard the Bourynes University of Caille station.
The incident, which took place just after midnight local time, wasnÆt reported to authorities until nearly eight hours later. Dr. So Xien Aang, the facility's research director, attributed the delay to her belief that the incident ôwas not a serious issue.ö
According to the incident report filed in the case, Dr. Aang told station security that three men wearing masks bypassed the facilityÆs exterior security and gained entry to the foundationÆs offices and treatment wing. After an altercation with several members of the staff, the men left empty-handed.
ôFortunately, no one from my staff was seriously injured and most of the patients were unaware that anything out of the ordinary had taken place,ö Dr. Aang is quoted in the report.
When reached by the Eve Observer for comment, Dr. Aang declined to be interviewed.
ôThere isnÆt a story here,ö she said. ôI have no idea what those men were after, but whatever it was I can assure they did not find it here.ö
Simon Toliver, the stationÆs chief of security, said his office has been hampered in their investigation because of the time lapse between the incident and its reporting. He said during the 8-hour interval in question at least 100 capsuleer and conventional ships departed from the station.
ôWhoever was responsible could very well have been on any one of those vessels,ö Toliver said. ôOr they could still be sitting in the bar right now.ö
Toliver said his staff is currently reviewing security videos from various parts of the station. However, if a significant lead doesnÆt turn up, the matter will likely be set aside.
ôWe take all break-ins seriously,ö he said. ôBut I donÆt have the manpower or resources to chase people across the galaxy for nothing more than a hotwired door and a bloody nose.ö
Curiously, a squad of Haktain Dynasty marines was milling about the area outside of the Neuroscience FoundationÆs facilities. A lance corporal who wouldnÆt give his name said the group didnÆt see anything and had no comment.
The Bourynes facility is one of several U of C Neuroscience Foundation centers located throughout the Federation, but is considered by many to be among the best. In recent years, researchers at the Bourynes facility have published results from a number of cutting-edge studies involving neuroengineering.
