Edited by: Harmuul on 20/07/2011 01:39:10 Given that Dust 514 is going to bring PS3 players into Eve, I think it's a good idea with potential. Getting people playing by making Eve more accessible to them will get them into the community.
It should be expanded, I think, like managing a store through a smartphone app or something.
What do you think?

You nailed it, I think, or something. Did you develop the ideas alone or are they results of larger group discussions? Ahh, you naughty boys!! Anyway, good stuff. Make sure to twitter the tweetfleet CCP/CSM-crews with your thoughts though, those important guys don't always manage to catch the gems from these forums. I'm sure they'd love to iterate further, they always do. Stay strong now, Harmuul, and good luck.

Depending on what they have planned for the Universal Service Layer, those kinds of things will probably happen pretty much automaticallyà ùùù ôWe want to try this thing called micro-transactions, but we don't know what it is. Can anyone explainà aw screw it, let's just do it! What could go wrong?ö ù ÇÇP |

Bringing in PS3 players is a great idea, as long as they aren't being brought in to simply replace all of the PC EVE players who have just recently "quit".
Can't wait to see the report on the user levels after the deployment of Incarna (long term effect, not short term).

I believe there is potential as well. In terms of industry, it could mean higher profits for ship manufacturers since sovereignty warfare will be deeply tied into planetary warfare (more ships dying in more ways than we initially imagined). In turn, that could mean increased demand for minerals, which is good news for miners.

I wouldn't expect anything less when the lean, mean, scrum machines are sprinting through the iterations!

Edited by: Gnulpie on 20/07/2011 07:56:34 Sure it is a good thing, it is actually pretty awesome.
But at the same time, EVE is really in not a good state and needs to be 'fixed' quite a bit. And then there are tons and tons of things which needs heavy improvement/iterations.
And it is bad if you do something at the expanse of your only income stream, this is a really desperate move and a completely unnecessary risk.
But yeah, some people like doing things just for the sake of risk. Reminds me somehow at the icelandic money gamblers which ruined their country so perfectly. Lesson learned? I don't think so. |

I have no complaints at first blush. The big HOWEVER to that is "What did it take for them to get here?" and "Are they bringing an advantage with them they didn't have to earn through skill of some sort." I think that's the main apprehension about this, as well as the "trust us" assurances we get from a group that created a game where trust is usually fatal.
I really don't like consoles. And, I don't like the idea of access to parts of EVE only IF you own a console. A PC is fine with me. Consoles are a marketing strategy and method that smacks of predation.
People with smartphones deserve cancer of the earlobe.

This..! No power in the world will force me to buy a console.. Its a PC but with very restrictive controls, utilization of hardware power and limited software environment.
Same reason I'm disgusted of MACs, its a PC, same hardware only double the price, MAC users can then stare at the apple logo and feel elite.
There are some consumers in the world that buy the same product but want to feel special, as Pok Nibin said in the quote its a marketing strategy to milk the extra cash from these unique snowflakes!
CCP if u ever want DUST to become a success you should stop forcing players to adopt to a system they despise.

Sorry pops we're not all 30+ year old men that only own a computer and one video game. Maybe you can buy a PS3 and DUST for your kids for Christmas, that would be nice. Aren't you a little old to be playing video games anyway? I doubt your sleepy old bones would be able to handle the reflexes needed for a game like DUST, you would just get owned and cry even more about how it's too hard.

Yes MMO's should be platform agnostic. after all the main aim is to make money from as many people as possible so why limit your customers.
Ideally MMO's would be all deployed in a web browser etc via some kind of virtual machine so the code is platform agnostic too.

A little too close to home huh? Stay mad, pops. Keep complaining on a forum about people buying things. You're so edgy. There's a whole world out there, it's not all exclusive to Windows.

So if I criticize your mindless consumerism I must be some slobbering old dude, waving his hand "These damn youngsters"... Well, to me you sound like some kido with mommies credit card.
Also I never advocated Windows. You are just trolling so I wont keep feeding you.
Anyway back on topic, yes a software product should never be exclusive to a platform only, thats some obvious marketing trick which will backfire really bad.
