I am beginning to crosstrain guns and have been reading a lot of old post, asking my own questions and fitting a Harb up in EFT. I am leaning toward a fit that can easily be adapted to either 425mm AC's or 650mm Arty's with a shield tank. This will, at first be for PVE, but will ultimately be moved to PVP. I went with projectiles on it because I enjoy flying Rifters and Thrashers around ratting (everything else is missiles and drones for me).
Am I missing on some point with this boat or is this a pretty acceptable way to get decent L3 PVE capability out of it and ultimately be able to utilize it for PVP?
Or, as the title ask, am I missing something that would really make the Harbinger shine?

Yes, you are missing the bonus to projectile guns which the Hurricane has..........
Fit you're Harbi with t2 pulses, you won't regret it.

Yeah - lasers.

the harby will shine with bright bright ass lasers. If you want fit guns go hurricane or myrmidon. The mrym has no gun bonuses so you can stick any guns you want on them. You'll be better off Armor fitting the harbinger for pvp so you can leave the mids open for cap injector, MWD, and tackle. Yes this was posted with an alt. |

When you next take it for a wash, pay extra and get the wax.
Also use T2 pulse for joy and untold pleasure.

Edited by: Nikita LaFem on 22/07/2011 19:02:21 I am running it with "Scout" pulses currently (while I train for T2's). The thing I like about the Harb over the Cane (and the Cane is a great ship), is the fact that I can easily set the Harb up for either shield or armor and lasers or projectiles.
In a base comparison between the two, using exactly the same setup with 650mm Arty's (noting that the Cane has one less gun but gets bonuses) they are almost identicle in every way. The Cane edges the Harb out by 100 DPS and is faster by 200 M/S.
Same does not hold true if I use Pulse's on the Cain, it fails badly (as you would expect). I get a couple of missile slots on the Cane, but I get two flights of drones on the Harb.
For comparison sake.

I'm really not sure what your asking. Using anything but lasers on a Harb is just fail. It has two bonuses to laser use, that really should be a hint as to why there is no "shine" to your Harb. Using Projectiles on a Harb is just a lolKM waiting to happen for PVP. USE LASERS. T2 pulses will give you close to the reach of med arty's, and the crazy DPS of AC's with an instant ammo change. If you want to shield tank it I suppose I have heard worse ideas, I fly a shield nano harb in gang PVP. For PVE is your set on the Harb, armor tank it. If your really set on a shield/projectile setup..fly a cyclone or a cane.

Edited by: Nikita LaFem on 22/07/2011 20:19:08 Scout pulses - you know what I meant.... anyhow..
Yea, I have been looking too much lately at Cruisers in the Amarr line and forgot that the Harb actually does have a Laser damage modifier. Thanks for pointing that out.
However, I do like the fact that I can run everything, including an MWD, cap stable with the projectiles. The DPS, does get drug down though.
Thanks

Using an AC Shield/Gank fit is actually quite effective when you get Gurista/Serp/Angel missions. Far more applied damage (compared to lasers) means much better speed.
Optimally you'd want to use the Hurricane for projectiles though, especially when you transition to PewPew as every bit counts.
In short: Feel free to mix it up for PvE but don't expect it to get you very far in PvP.

If you absolutely have to have autocannons on an Amarr ship, use a Prophecy. Not a Harbinger. -------------------------------------------------- I am the Love Angel, Wedding Peach, and I am very displeased by your lack of love! |

Too much dead chicken happening there.
No, I have no issue with Lasers. In fact they will apply more damage in the range I prefer, which is 10-15 - when I am not kiting out even further. Ultimately, I will use them both. That is what I like about the Harb, is that it does do OK with either for PVE. Yes, in PVP, that is a different story. I get that.
Right now, I am trying to get the most bang for the buck (of training time), since I have not trained well for guns and am just now doing that. Just about everything I fly is missile and shield based, so my skills are stronger there - thus my desire to shield tank. However, I am changing that after some poor showings in PVP with a shield tanked missile ship. I am seeing the need to armor tank at times and to be at least capable with some form of gunnery. The Lasers probably make more sense right now.
Thanks for the advice.
