I just resubbed my multi boxing mining set up after years away. Last time I was playing a group had declared war on high sec miners and were suicide ganking them.
Does ganking (suicide or otherwise) still happen on Orca/Hulk/Mackinaw set ups in high sec (0.6/0.7) ?
Is it more dangerous keeping all your ships close together ?
Any recommended fittings help against this behaviour (resistance amps/ lots of combat drones etc) ?
Thanks for any and all advice.

If you are worried about it you can stay aligned to a station, get a good tank on your hulk, or watch local religiously and be wary of new comers who stay for to long.
Ganking does happen in high security space. "Hulkageddon", pirates, griefers, people who hate mining for no apparent reason, and elitist jerks.

Edited by: Servitor 002 on 22/07/2011 23:14:40 All the usual tricks to avoid them still work to. Spread your mining ships out in the belt and use a tractor beam to collect jetcans. Mine in systems with low populations and get to know the locals. Stay away from major population centres as thats still where most of the trouble happens. Learn how the aggresion rules work and dont be a dill in local.
cheers

I've certainly never heard of Orcas dying in High Sec...
Never
Never Ever
So I'm sure they're perfectly safe to use.

Thanks for the replies.
1. Is 'Hulkaggedon' a suicide gank ?
Originally by: Franny or were they dumb enough to rescoop ore from jetcans?
2. So if they scoop up your ore you can attack them but you can't rescoop it if they jettison it ?
3. Would a dozen or more T2 drones with good drone skills make most pirates etc think twice about attacking or do most pirates and gankers manipulate the aggression rules to get you killed by NCPs etc?

it is(was?) a regulyarrly scheduled event where people would gank every barge type ship they could in high-sec

those kills were either a STUPID war target, or a very stupid miner who fell for a can flipper with an orca, you shouldn't need to jetcan mine, but some still do... and (in over simplified terms) can flippers come in, swipe the ore and move it to their can, wait for you to take it back so they can kill you don't jetcan and you should be golden there

quasi-spider tanking with shield rep drones helps too

Actually...
You'd be surprised how brave Orca pilots are, when a little tiny frigate is stealing from belt rats.
So they launch drones, to "scare me off".
And then they're blinky for 15min...

I should try that maybe my killboard stats wouldn't be so abysmal...(ofc I was usually in a covert ops, so nearly never on any killmails)

You can always mine in missions with astroids in them. There are a few of those missions around, it be pretty much a nice private belt once you clear off the ships.

Use core scanner probes and go for hidden belts. They contain better ore and are harder for gankers to find. Also, mining in systems which aren't close to low sec might decrease the amount of gankers going for you (some of these come in from low sec in suicide Thrasher gangs etc.).
