Hey guys. My corp is preping for a move to C5 wormhole. Question regarding carriers. What's the better carrier for wormhole living Thanny or Archon. I'm thinking both are good, but Thanny might be slightly better due to shield transfer bonus.
Thoughts?

I would definitely go Thanny. The Archon is more suited for large fleet work, the Thanny and it's damage bonuses and such is better for PvE and smaller groups.

Alot of variables, but there is no wrong answer, except if you have a Pulsar effect and use an armour carrier same with wolf-rayet / shield setup.
The most popular is the archon due to the tank if PVE is your game, else anything else will do just fine.

I personally adore the Archon for running C5/C6 sites. It gives armor and cap. The Thanny is nice for all the drones, but you're normally repping first and dps isn't really needed once you have both dreads and a webber on the field.
I'd change my question to what will you do when AHARM or Narwhals finds you. I listened to the AHARM guy on a podcast and if you don't pvp they don't want you in their space.

Thanks for the good info guys.
As far as the wormhole alliances go, we are not too concerned. As far as I can tell they don't own all the C5/C6 wormholes. We will not get too settled, and simply pack up and move on at the first sign of trouble.

Wonder why noone mentioned this point:
Thanny can be used for POS rep and gangsupport while the archon can just help your fleet, not your POS.
Sure, not realy needed but nice to have...

Realistically, you want a PULSAR wormhole with Chimeras / Tengu / Command ... if you can find one
I would stay away from armor bonus wormholes because the sleepers get the same bonuses to armor as your fleet. It is not the case for shield bonus holes.
If you insist on doing armor, you should use Thanny's for the extra DPS. _________________________________________________________ "We cause business expenditures."

Best carrier for wspace is Archon hands down. You usually want to faction fit it as well.

Edited by: Mr Majestyk on 08/08/2011 01:02:39 The problem with using fighters for wormhole pve is that they get killed quickly unless you know what you are doing.
If you think that you can just pack up and leave I wouldn't even bother with carriers.

There aren't that many C5 wormholes.
AHARM and company will roll C5 / C6 holes till they find something worth shooting.
So the question remains: will you fight, or flee?
They'll basically force out anyone who decides they can sit in a C5 / C6 and carebear with no risk ... so enjoy it whilst it lasts
FWIW if you insist on no PVP, forget the carriers. Find a pulsar and use RR-Tengus. You'll have a chance of getting them out alive. A slim chance, but hey. -------

I think you mean C6 wormholes- there's only one C6 region, but there are six C5 regions in wormhole space. Just setting the facts straight.
Edit: but your corp IS 'The Independent Troll Society'

No, no, I meant it exactly as I said it.
There are 2499 wormhole systems in total, a rather small fraction are a C6. If you assume for a moment C6 holes don't exist, and there are 2499 other holes evenly distributed, then that leaves you with 500 of each (for simplicity).
Now lets say you are looking at the results of one occupied WH, with a C5 static, and they cycle their hole 3 times a day. That's 90 pings per month. That leaves the hole with a ~80% chance of not being found, or a ~20% chance of being found.
Now lets assume that out of all the wormholes out there, only 100 are inhabited and have a C5 static. Lets lower the average static rolling to two per day (not everyone is so keen). Thats 100*2*30 = 6000 pings per month.
That leaves the OP with a exponent of a fraction that I can't be arsed to calculate .. but needless to say it's nigh on certain he'll find "friends."
tl'dr - "There aren't that many" is rather subjective. -------
