Are high sec grav sites common and do they show up in all secs (.5 - 1.0) and finally, what kind of ores can I expect to find there? I apologize if there is another post about this but if there was, I certainly couldn't find it.

They are not all that common but they are not rare either i'd say. The sites very from having the same or even less valuable ores then the systems belts to having a nice supply of Low sec ores such as Jaspet, Hemorphite and the lot.
I haven't paid much attention to which security class the valuable vs. the worthless sites are in if i had to guess i'd say that your more likely to find the good stuff in 0.5 then 0.9 sec system.

You can find anything from pure omber sites - to pure amazing sites.
I mostly stick to .5 mining and I probe down systems once or twice a week in hopes of finding a grav site. I have found a few good kernite / omber sites, but my luckiest catch was of course Hemorphite, Hedbergite, And Jaspet. Only had 6 rocks in it, but they were large enough it took 2 hours to pull them dry with 2 hulks and orca bonuses.
Tl;Dr - Grav sites happen. Good grav sites barely happen.

Don't neglect the rats.
I picked up a 200M+ mining module from a rat in a high sec hemo site. Only happened once, although I really don't mine anymore.

A Large Hemorphite, Jaspet, Kernite site will yield about an Orca-Load (about 143,000 m3 cargo-size variable) of each Ore.
Between this and some Hemo and Jasp in a played-out Level 4 Combat Site I finished, in 2 days I refined to 320,000 Nocxium.
That's what's out there just so ya know......

I would recommend getting eve-maps or something similar that shows you the constellations. I have found that there is at least one grav site in each constellation. If you cannot find one, then maybe the signature is too small for you to probe (usually means a very good grav site) or someone has mined it out that day (if that happens, after downtime there should be a new one somewhere in the constellation). ---------------------
