Quite often yes, it is a pirate code, type thing. Is everyone going to do it? Of course not, this is eve. However, many lowsec pirates like to fight for the fights and 1v1s can be quite fantastic to watchiand have in frig platforms.
Most of the corps I know (save one and they are terrible) honor 1v1s. But third parties like to jump in because its eve.
Ask, assume it might not work but give it a try. Most corps who don't honor them will get a rep about it quickly. This falls into the line of 'get to know the natives'. You will find a groups you can challange yourself against.
We had one guy ask one of our pilots who he has prior 1v1 expierence with for a match in the middle of a roam as we passed through the system he was in. Because we have always honored our word he took the risk of jumping his alt into the fleet (we were on a gate about to leave system when he asked) so that he could go meet on a planet. The 1v1 was honored and the roam continued when they were done.
Not everyone is like that but plenty of people enjoy more then the easy gank. Some enjoy the easy gank more.

The irony is what even one of CCPs slogans contains such words. Also don't even get me started on nipples, boosters(drugs) are ok but nipples are SO taboo. aka Bring back the Quafe girl!

IMO Faction war is the best place to find decent 1v1s. Get in your ship find a system with allot of wartargets and jump in a plex. If they come in with too many you may be able to jump out and see if one jumps out as well. Then you can fight one on the accell gate.
CCP might start letting us know what systems plexes are being attacked which will make finding decent small scale fights even easier.
But until that happens I think you are still looking at about 1 decent fight per hour. Sometimes you will get many more but sometimes you will spend 2 hours and dock your ship with no fights.

This is true but asking for duels is too contrived. CCP needs to make it so decent small scale fights spring up naturally. The faction war plexing mechanics are the obvious way to do this.

HA are "old school" if they say it's a 1vs1 you can be certain that is what it will be.

If you want to PVP start training for Amarrian or Gallente Hulls, in the next few months Caldari will be completely nonviable and a few months after that so will Minmatar.
If you pick one of the two surviving races you'll just farm the races recently nerfed into the ground.

You could always go into lowsec around E-Uni territory. They go on roams fairly often I think, and despite the size of the group, most are inexperienced and flying frigates or cruisers. You could probably get 1 kill per fight if you picked the right targets.
Of course, then you sort of have to wait for an E-Uni blob to roll through. Might also be a good idea to stand by on gate camps and see if you can get in on the action. Offer tackle for fights and whatnot.
Maybe I was actually sleeping in front of my computer and dreamed I posted. Certainly, it's not there now. |

4. Get them to bring guns
