Yep, Vexor works very well in exploration. I made hundreds of millions flying it, and still love it to bits. It is also the first step in the Gallente line of drone boats (Myrmidon, Dominix, Ishkur, Ishtar), which in addition to being awesome PvE ships, can be flown with success also in small gang PvP. Drones do require quite a hefty training time investment to make them really shine, but unlike other weapon systems, almost every ship in Eve can use drones.
Useful skills for these ships, in order of importance (I would even say the first ones are mandatory)
Drones V Scout Drone Operation V Gallente Drone Specialization II (these 3 skills open up the tech 2 light and medium drones, which you really want, they are faster, hit harder and last longer)
Combat Drone Operation IV (to V asap, +5% damage for light & med drones per level) Drone Interfacing IV (to V asap, this is _the_ drone skill, giving you +20% all drone damage per level!) Electronic Warfare Interfacing III (besides opening the ewar drones, this increases the control range of all drones) Drone Navigation III Drone Durability III
Hull Upgrades V (opens T2 hardeners, level IV already gives you Damage Control II, these improve the tank significantly) Mechanic IV & Repair Systems IV (for Medium Armor Repairer II, another super improvement to tank)
Armor Rigging III (both active and buffer armor tanks benefit from armor rigs, rigging is especially important with the Myrmidon)
There are many basic fitting and navigation skills you will also want to train, but these should get you going.
Above fit is good, but Vexor is flexible enough to be fitted according to your personal preferences. Fit rails if you prefer medium range, use a medium repper if you prefer more tank. I used 1 small repper + rat-specific hardeners and damage control quite a lot in the lows. Although with drones, you can get away with very little tanking worries even in DED 4/10 plexes, if you learn to manual pilot your ship and stay away from the NPC range. I would keep the Analyzer in cargo bay and swap in station if needed, you can use the mid slot for a Cap Booster, web or Drone Navigation Computer, for example.
Install EFT or Python Fitting Assistant (pyfa: http://www.evefit.org/Pyfa) and bake your own fits, I think it's a great idea to learn fitting right from the start by doing. Battleclinic and this site can give you ready answers, but they are not always correct and you will be 283% better player if you figure fitting out on your own. That said, I think http://failheap-challenge.com/ has the best fits on the internets.
Have fun with the Vexor!
