Ok What Is Everyone using To Make money with the Ferox, I get knocked around until I warp by spawns of 90k ships
What is the highest you can take on.
I am in Laser using Rat space
4 Malkuth, 2 250 rails using Iridium 2 Dampers(for pvp protection), Large Shield Extender, EM hardener, Thermal Hardener 2 PDU, 2 reactor Controls

pvp with ferox =/= pve, esp since you have damps and whatnot. Heck, if a gankageddon locks you, your deadmeat anyways. But i seen BCs in general take single 750 spawns without too much trouble.

My Ferox setup for lvl 3 missions
5 x XR-3200 launchers 2 x E50 Medium Nos (Ferox has 7 Highs why you only using 6?) 1 Lrg tech 2 shield extender, 1 tech 2 AB, 1 x Lrg C5-L Shield Booster 2x rat specific active hardners (if need be remove AB add third hardner) 2 x Bcu 2 pdu
Worked perfectly for me (although i think you need electronics and engenering 5 as well as other fitting skills to pull this off - If so a tech 2 medium shield booster may do ok, or a medium named extender)
If your that worried about PvP remove the Bcu's and add wcs and always be aligned to warp.

My ferox config for level 3 missions:
5 250 rails, 2 heavy launchers em/thermal/kinetic hardeners, medium shield extender II, shield recharger II 3 PDU II, magnetic field stab II
And yes I realize it's hardly the best setup ever but i wanted to try a passive (well, active hardeners ) shield tank and railguns since if i want 5 heavy launchers I just use a caracal .

The Ferox is a gunship, not a missile boat. Fit it as such.
High: 4x 250mm Rails (I use T2 rails. 24km range with AM, 48 with Thorium.) 3x Heavy Missile launchers (Named is best, but I'm lazy and use standards.)
Med: Large t2 Shield booster 10mn AB II 3x hardeners (I fit EM/Therm/Kin so I don't have to change fittings.)
Low: 4x Dower Diag II (I could just use three and fit something else in the low, but I like the extra cap/shield recharge. With Shield ops 4, Shield management 4 and the shield recharge bonus on the PDUIIs, I very rarely have to use the shield booster.)

caracal is a really crap tanker tho, ferox you lose a little fire power for alot of tanking.

I thought the ferox was a gunship till i went deep 0.0 with it ..then i discoverd it was a missile boat ..lol , never got out of shield in lvl 3 missions . in 0.0 biggest i tanked was a 750 ker though took too long an too much ammo to ever bother again you just cant do the damage .
For mission 's tech 2 shield booster . %30 shield boost amp thingy. active em .active therm hardner. AB . a missile damage mod in lows ( two now i got the cpu) And 5 heavy launchers ( i hate missiles there so boreing but i do huge damage from 0 to near 50k ..you cant beat that atm sadly , well i can't anyways ) In 0.0 i loose the AB accept i cant pickup loot always an put in a tech 2 extender , gives close to 4k shield which feels nice out there ,
Been toying with armour tanking it freeing the mids for pvp stuff ... but thats another post ![Very Happy](/images/icon_biggrin.gif) ================================ Im bound for Botany Bay... i like pie ! |

Personally I like this setup:
5x Heavy missle launcher 2x 250mm rail
1x Large t2 shield booster 2x Hardners (race specific aka kinetic + thermal for serps) 1x 10mn AB II (cap recharger / 3rd hardner if u dont care bout traveling times) 1x Shield Boost Amp
2x Ball control 2x PDU II
Works nice vs npcs up into the BS range, but they take a long time to take down cos of the low damage output of this thing.
PVP its dampers all the way baby ![Very Happy](/images/icon_biggrin.gif) ---------------------

5 XR-3200s with 4 ballistic mods will kick the **** out of most NPC spawns that I've come across. And slap a booster on that thing if you're PvE-ing.

I'll be moving up to a Ferox at some point in the near future and can't decide whether to go 5x Heavy Launchers and 2x Rails, or 2x Heavy Launchers and 5 Rails.
I would have thought going for an all missile set-up would be best for NPC hunting, but let me know if i'm wrong. Hearing the pros and cons of each set-up, for NPC or PvP, would be much appreciated.

Edited by: ErrorS on 26/02/2005 16:59:21 i use mine as a rail boat. I've learned to really dislike missles. Too slow, they do less DOT at optimum.. no thanks
I snipe with mine. 60km with iron (and only lv1 battlecruiser). A thorax with MWD doesn't get to 40km before it's dead.
i've always been a rail person. MOA is a great ship for PvE, good DPS. Ferox is the moa's bigger brother and I treat it as such.
oh, my setup.
5 250mm rails, 2 heavy launchers. Anti-matter or iron depending on situation. I'm fighting gallente NPCs so I use 2 kenetic and 2 thermal hardeners. Plus a large shield booster. In lows I have 2 RCUs and 2 cap relays.
Simple but sweet for fighting NPCs. Heavy missles take care of frigs if the drones are taking too long, or if they close before I can kill them from a decent range (10km+) ________

I use this setup in level 3 missions with Angels:
High: 5x named launchers and 2x 250 rails Med: Tech2 shield booster, named large shield extender, shield amp, webber and tech2 10mn AB Low: 3 tech2 PDU's & 1 ballistic mod
I use launchers instead of rails because angels like to come up close under 10km and rails dont work that good then. The webber is for the intys/fast drones.

A single 1.25Mil BS can be shot down when flying a ferox, takes a little patience and make sure you take out the cruisers/frigs and other mess before you go head to head with the BS but it can be done. I personaly like to have the following setup.
4x Gauss 250mm (AM needed if you want to get that BS) 3x Named heavy launcer (Missiles in all flavors so you can switch when the BS's shield is down)
3x T2 Shield Amp (EM, Termal, Kenetic) 1x T2 Cap recharger (needed for those guns) 1x Large Shield booster T2
2x PDU (best you can find but the normal PDU should be enough) 1x Balistic control 1x T2 Magnetic field stabalizer (or so I think what ever the damage mod is for those guns)
Oh, and if you do take on a big BS make sure you have a spare Ferox in a station close by You will not always be lucky and there is nothing worse than having to settle for a cruiser because you just don't have the money to replace your battle cruiser.

i screwed quote, and i see he was using medium sized lasers also... but in pvp don't put rails on ferox

For PvP, obviously missles > rails. Missles hit frigs and drones with no problem. Rails still do better damage per second though.
Against a battleship at good range (say a few battlecruisers are ganking one or something) I would rather have 5 rails. Against a BS you might as well be firing missles, you'll do almost near max damage every time.
Against other cruiser.. who knows, it's been a while since I've seen a cruiser in PvP.
Generally I would carry missles in a Ferox for PvP situations.. but if I had a choice, I wouldn't be flying a Ferox into PvP situations anyways.. awesome PvE ship, but too expensive and too useless for PvP. you can do near the same damage with a MOA or caracal.
Interceptor or Battleship, throw the rest in the hangar until you wanna do missions. ________

Edited by: ErrorS on 26/02/2005 19:40:10 Edited by: ErrorS on 26/02/2005 19:36:35 5 non-named rails - 51.86dps (average, of course. Based on experience/log, not attribs)
5 malkuth heavy launchers - 44.4dps (if heavy missles do an average of 120dmg a shot)
I got lv4 in all gunnery skills though. You also need to be good at keeping within optimum, checking transverse, etc. Turrets take some work to get to use right, but setting my Ferox up currently (I got good missle skills too) with these setups, I do much more DPS then missles.
Missles are a lot easier though. If you feel like just killing Cruiser NPCs without having to think very much, go for missles..
edit: They're LIMOS launches, not Malkuth. Oops
edit2:
I guess 250s with anti-matter do 92DPS before resists, misses, varied damage and everything is taking to account. I found this translates into about 51dps with my current skills ________

not for me. I do most damage at around 15km with anti-matter against cruisers. I never miss cruisers above 10km.
I forgot to mention that this damage is done with anti-matter, not iron. Iron is considerably less but it still does 30+ damage per shot for me, probably averages around 25 at 50km (I hit for more "Well aimed" when using Iron at that range). When figuring numbers for Anti-matter I said each shot averaged about 50damage and it does for me. ________

So if attacked by a Thorax, would using rails be a problem? If they get under you guns your in trouble, right?
So missiles are a better option?
But facing an armour tanked Brutix, I should be using rails?

I can hit thoraxes at 3000m as long as I watch my transverse.
but yea, they can be a pain. if you know you're going up against one missles might be better. Though I still prefer rails against MWD Thoraxes in PvE. On the rare occasion that they get close and I have trouble evening out my transverse to them, the 2 heavy launchers take care of them before my shields feel it.
Ferox is also one hell of a tank.. it can take a beating from a group of cruisers. ________
