What is the best progression of ships to go through missions at each level. I'd like to stick with Caldari ships at this point and have a goal to train to for the fastest progression and easiest completion of missions.
Level 1 - Kestrel Level 2 - ??? Level 3 - ??? Level 4 - ??? Level 5 - ???

Lv4: Raven/varients, raven navy issue, scorption navy issue (close enough), rattlesnake, golem. Drake, Tengu, Nighthawk (if you really like the Drake playstyle, lots of SP to get into, and a worthy upgrade over the Drake and is a better ship than most people will lead you to believe)
Lv5: Heard the Nighthawk can solo it, but it won't be effective as doing lv5s with a squad of people.

I'm an old guy who quit the game several times but has found a new excitement after my last hiatus of about a year. One suggestion I have is to take your skill training serious as far as piloting ships and the skills necessary to run missions.
I didn't take that approach in the past and I'm paying for it now. I have to use a Raven to run level threes. When I decided to leave the game the last time I took my Drake out one last time to pvp and lost it but that's another story.
When I used my Drake for level threes I could set there tanked all day long but didn't have the firepower to kill the big boys in level threes...it was a standoff. I switched to a Raven and used cruise missiles and still have to warp out occasionally because my skills are not where they need to be.
I would get thumped if I tried level 4's in my Raven with the skills I have presently. I'm being a bit smarter about things this time through. My advice...pay very close attention to skill training or the ship you can afford might not operate at optimum performance.

OMG, I would almost be willing to send you 50mil to get back into a Drake. Trying to run 3's in a Raven is painful. You need to drop the Cruise Missiles asap and get on Heavy or Heavy Assault just so you can do damage.

Well like I said. My old self was more worried about piloting the latest and greatest ship and having the skills to fly it properly was not taken in to consideration. In addition, I didn't pay close enough attention to the skills needed to run security missions properly either. A painful lesson that I'm still recovering from but recover I will.

....how could you not have the DPS to kill everything in a lv3 in a Drake? I am dead serious. Post your drake fittings, and general idea of what your skills were like. And while your at it do the same for your Raven, chances are their badly fitted and just not skills, as I've started piloting the drake with low SP just like everyone else and did fine.

I very well may have the DPS to kill lvl3's in a Drake in today's Eve. I was a bit off on how long I've been out of the game. It has been 14 months. I don't know what has changed in the game since then. I no longer have a Drake as I lost it right before quitting the last time. All I had in my hangar when I came back to the game was the ibis given to me when I lost my drake and a Raven back in high secure space.
I can't remember my Drake fitting but here is my Raven as it stands now.
6 Arbalest Cruise Launcher I 1 Small Tractor Beam
4 Large Shield Extender II 2 Invulnerability Field II
4 Ballistic Control System II 1 Damage Control System II
I change missile payload according to enemy's weakness.
My skillpoints are at 5.9 mil. To give an example my Battleship skill is only at level three at the moment. I've been back playing for approx two weeks.
My apologies to the thread originator if this seems like a thread hijack.

Don't try to passive tank your Raven, active tank it you will do a lot better. Look up raven fits, no need to ask on the forums just type in lv4 raven fit in google or something along those lines and you find several. Look at them, try out the standard "cookie cutter" ones, than try to get ideas from other people builds and fine tune it to your playstyle.
